Strategery: Bush Attacks Obama and Weakens America

President Bush apparently took a long distance swipe at presidential candidate Barack Obama in Israel yesterday, debasing the notion that America should negotiate with Iran as the "false comfort of appeasement."

Bush used a particularly uncouth Nazi analogy for his Israeli audience, saying, "We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement."

Sen. Biden, Rep. Pelosi and Chris Mathews, among a throng of others, have derided this political jibe. Pelosi chided Bush for breaking the hallowed rules of mudslinging by attacking Obama from abroad, while Biden, in a passionate furry rarely found in the dreary halls of Congress, called Bush's analogy "bulls!#t".

Politicians and news pundits preoccupied with election year posturing seem to have adopted the role of referee, proclaiming this opening serve against Obama out of bounds, while overlooking the fact that the President has broken his foot in his reckless dash to the net. By rendering diplomacy politically untenable, the President has needlessly sabotaged Defense Secretary Robert Gates's strategy of developing leverage in the Middle East in order to "sit and talk with Iran, and not bomb Iran."

Instead of focusing on the ethics of mudslinging, Pelosi and the media should follow Biden's lead and address the potentially dire ramifications of Thursday's reckless hubris.

"The president's saber rattling has been the most self-defeating policy imaginable," said Biden after a number of expletives. "It spurs instability in the Middle East ... and plays into the hands of those Iranian leaders he rails against.... Since when has talking removed 'no' from the American vocabulary."

Gotta luv it............the Democrat party, principles, and minions, have viciously attacked President Bush from day1 of his presidency without the slightest peep from him, in fact, he's sat back and laughingly said have at it, figuratively. Former President Carter has undermined the office from distant shores, former Veep Gore bellowed "he betrayed US," and Harry plus Nancy have led all maximum efforts to cripple President Bush. Now, the President makes a pretty convincing speech in Israel reflecting this country's strong support of it, along the way takes a mild swipe at feet of clay B. Hussein Obama, and Dems burst from under the slimy rocks and whine "Foul!" Man, if only he had spoken up from day2 and knocked the dems back on their fannies this country would have benefitted immensely from it. But he did not, so we are left with a worthless Congress unable to function 'cause the Dems can keep sniping and the Repubs continue shrinking in their hovels.

The republicans" big battle cries are "free market economy," "and only the republicans can be trusted to handle the economy." The reality is that our national debt and the national deficit have skyrocketed under the republicans" stewardship; while graft and corruption in government contracting has never been greater. The republicans are a bunch of hypocrites who have never practiced what they preach. Keep calling democrats and liberals names at least they are not dishonest Bush/Cheney pukes who lied about Iraq and sent America's sons and daughters to fight for a war that McCain says is all about oil. Sen. John "Keating 5" McCain's whose feet of clay are mired in the muck of lobbyists who profit from the atrocities in Myanmar and double dealing with Saudi and French defense contractors.
Name calling from unpatriotic jackasses who don't seem to care that 5,000 soldiers have been killed and more than 60,000 soldiers have been grossly maimed in Iraq - a war that is based upon lies and distortions, won't change reality. Obama is doing a flip-flop, big surprise. Barry's website stated he is the ONLY candidate that would sit down with Iran w/o preconditions. Now that he is attacked and he can see such a position is against public opinion he is trying to retroactively change his position. Just like his retroactive repudiation of Wright, his stupid and mean wife's retroactive clarification of "proud for first time", etc., etc. etc.

Obama is toast in a general election. Barry "Glass Jaw" Obama can't take a punch and the country will get tired of his flip flops and "clarifications".

You quote Pelosi?? The one who went around the man responsible for foreign policy to talk with our enemies, in contravention of the normal rules of diplomacy??? Bush is the MAN, responsible for foreign affairs. Not the Congress, not ex-presidents. He has the right to set foreign policy, and the duty, whether you wish it or not. If Obama or Clinton become President, you will certainly object if any Republican does a similar end-run.
Further, the analogy is correct. Obama has stated that he will sit down with those enemies with no pre-conditions. His later statements may have repudiated that, but he still said it.

So true. Why do we suppose the price of oil is so high? Bush's foreign and domestic policy is causing the rising and the falling of everything going on in this country.

What is most scary, is that the POTUS would say such a thing about his own country in any setting. I believe Bush wants to start a war with Iran so that he can use the Patriot Act to stay in office. God help us if he does.

McSame's statement yesterday was also ignored... well, part of the clip was played, but zero analysis.

You'd think one reporter in Bush's entourage would get off the bus and ask a few Israelis what they think.

The plethora of evidence against our "journalists" is mounting.
They've abandoned the concept of the fourth estate, despite revelation after revelation of their violation of basic ethics.
