CNN reports:

During a speech before the National Rifle Association convention Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee -- who has endorsed presumptive GOP nominee John McCain -- joked that an unexpected offstage noise was Democrat Barack Obama looking to avoid a gunman.

"That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he's getting ready to speak," said the former Arkansas governor, to audience laughter. "Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor."

Unlike the 60's, when assignation's run-a-muck, the GOP of today understands that violence against Obama would cause the wave of change to morph into a tsunami. They would not soon recover from their mass exodus from elected government. Of course that is not to suggest that Huckabee's comments only landed in the ears of cognizant human beings. God keep him safe. Religion is such a joke. It divides us, and allows us to feel superior and inhumanely guilt free.

Think about this one...

If the tables were turned, and while at the National Press Club, Rev. Wright said:

"That was JOHN McCAIN. He just tripped off a chair. He"s getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him and he " he dove for the floor."

It would be a TOTALLY DIFFERENT LEVEL OF MEDIA OUTBURST... especially with FAUX NEWS!

But I know... it's not the same.

Why? Because it involves Huckabee and Obama; and not Wright and McCain!

DOUBLE STANDARDS to the end!

This so-called "joke" by the so-called "ordained Southern Baptist minister" is absolutely appalling. It makes the dumbest of the dumbest things that Cowboy Bush has said, in the past, seem somewhat intelligent.

IF, GOD FORBID, there were to be ANY type of assassination attempt on Senator Obama, there would be such an uprising with an enormous amount of mutiny, rebellion and revolt; and at a level that that this country has not experienced in recent times!

Also, we would know where to look first... and that is at the GOP. They would be the party of "DETESTATION & HATRED" for a long time coming; especially if they keep these types of tactics up, they'll be well on their way!

I hope the GOP finds it in their best interest to request additional support, from the Secret Service, specifically dedicated to Senator Obama. In my opinion, this comment has actually planted the thought into some, if not many, wacky souls out there and therefore cannot be downplayed!

It"s NO JOKE!

The GOP is so desperate that they have become very cruel, vindictive, spiteful, nasty, pitiless, callous, harsh, vile, wicked, contemptible and downright EVIL!

The GOP, and their past tactics are simply PATHETIC!

Try as they might to avoid it, sometimes what they really think just pops out from a hypocrite's mouth before they can stop it.

I will bet that there are black people right now wondering if that speech was a signal to some crazy Aryan nutjob. In case most people didn't know, that is usually one of their fears. I don't blame them.

For every struggle in this country, black people have been assassinated, lynched whatever.. Barack Obama going for the Presidency is as MLK, Brown vs Board of Ed, etc..

Huckabe knew exactly what he was saying because it is said in their circles.

I am happy that Barry is running for Pres of the USA, because this will highlight a lot of deeprooted racism at the highest level.

I am most baffled at how he could joke about that and call himself a Christian. Lovely!

Alright, I was initially accepting of this as a gaffe but upon further reflection this is OUTRAGEOUS given the country's history.

Mr. Huckabee, I really thought you were a different kind of republican. I honestly respected you as a person if not your policy views. Your comment, even made as a joke, is reprehensible in this election cycle. You knew exactly who your audience was, you knew exactly what people are ALREADY thinking, you knew exactly that threats have already been made. For you to joke so easily about this is vile and makes me very afraid of the tone throughout the campaign.

Your apology won't make up for the disrespect you showed to your Christian faith and to a man that could possibly be the first black president of the United States.

Wow, the big smoking gun of the campaign.

This is misdirection. There should be a blog about Barry's very substantial corporate ties. You won't see it because Arianna won't allow a strong blogger that would foucs on that issue.

Barry is a corporate stooge, a machine politician that rose by getting his ticket punched all the way up the line in Illinois. He owes the machine a huge debt.

"...a machine politician that rose by getting his ticket punched all the way up the line in Illinois."

And McCain is, " a machine politician that rose by getting his ticket punched all the way up the line of HYPOCRISY!

So be it!

Will the good folks at the Secret Service, conduct the customary "interview" with Huckabee as they'd do with Joe Citizen, as if he had make those remarks?!.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:05 PM on 05/17/2008

No.Remember he is an "ordained Southern Baptist minister" and a GOP member.

C'mon now... He's above and beyond all that!

Of course, the entire incident was preplanned. Huckabee's half-assed remark was written into the speech he was giving to the NRA morons who were in attendance. This isn't surprising, given that
the GOP hasn't had anything constructive to offer in the last 95 years. Just look at W's staged cam-
paign rallies in 2004 during which all of the applause of the adoring crowds was merely prerecord-
ed. But then, ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

I feel Mike Huckaby is one of the more honorable Republicans. However, he really screwed up this time. There are far too many wackos out there to be planting thoughts like that into the public stream. Smarten up Mike, you're better than that.

this comment by Huckabee was as tasteless as they come. There very well might be people out there that would relish the chance to kill this wonderful man. If fact he receives threats on his life daily. For someone who can command the media's attention and subsequently get millions to hear his comments, saying something so grotesque, especially in light of our history, is unforgivable.

A so called "preacher" publicly promoting violence and promoting the assassination of an american presidential candidate. So pathetic
People get arrested for less than that

By the way dumbass Huck , that loud sound you heard backstage was actually your fat ass wife and obese kids falling from their chairs as someone handed them just one burger, so they fell from their chairs and started to fight each other to see who would get the burger first.

WHY is no one absolutely condemning this?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:43 AM on 05/17/2008

Unfortunately, they're not. But they should because it's a non-story. Huckabee is a wannabe comedian and a boor - that's the story. When is the press going to start to focus on the real issues that our government needs to focus on? Why do they focus on the "she's not patriotic," "he told me THIS at a party" etc. BS. We are sliding down hill, folks and we're picking up speed. Encourage our free press to hold the government accountable for what Americans need and want. Screw this game of gotchya! It is despicable and it is really, really hurting us because it clouds the REAL issues.

You'd think he Huckabee himself couldn't stomach this, especially since he had most of it removed.

Why McCain is trying to 'court' gun owners is odd, considering that back in 2006 this happened....McCain Gun Show Ban. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) offered a gun show amendment (to S. 1805) on March 2, 2004. His language would outlaw the private sale of firearms at gun shows, unless the buyer agrees to submit to a background registration check. Also, it could effectively eliminate gun shows because every member of an organization sponsoring a gun show could be imprisoned if the organization fails to notify each and every "person who attends the special firearms event of the requirements [under the Brady Law]." Thus, if the person responsible for handing out "Brady pamphlets" took a break to go to the bathroom, everyone responsible for the event could be sent to prison. The McCain amendment passed the Senate by a vote of 53-47. Now he is trying to pretend he is PRO-GUN? NRA folks maybe a tad deaf at times, due to shooting and hunting so much with out ear protection, but I would think their brains still function along with their memories?

It would be appropriate for Mike Huckabee and the entire GOP to go on cable networks, radio stations, and write artices condemning this comment. The comment made was an example of everything that is wrong and negative about Washington and the mindset of the GOP. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there was one republican or his wife/husband who came forward and condemned the comment. The choice between right and wrong goes beyond political affiliations. The media commentators had the good grace to condemn such a distasteful joke.
We are participants in two wars, and our soldiers and civilians are dying. Mike Hickabee cracks jokes about dodging bullets. Here we go, write letters to these insensitive characters.

There is a moment in time in every period of history when there is an opportunity to do some incredible things. To call on our better angels, and set the tone for the next generation.

I'd call on anyone who claims to be "pro-life" to denounce it; also big-name preachers. Of course, I don't expect them to; preachers are essentially panhandlers, and contribute nothing to society.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:58 AM on 05/17/2008

He denounced it himself. He said he was sorry.
At least he didn't stand up in front of people and say he'd been to 57 States.....Sweetie!!

What was particularly telling, and horrifying, was the laughter that one can hear from the audience when Huckabee said this.

I can't believe that there would be anything other than stunned silence. Just goes to show the fundamental nature of right-wingers.

Of course, I imagine that Kevin James and his ilk will now be on the radio screaming into the microphone defending the remarks.

Ha, ha, ha. Boy, that's a knee-slapper, isn't it. It really shows you what the thugs in this nation have gotten away with. There was a time when the NRA was an organization of Patriots, not neo-Nazis. I withdrew from the organization when they endorsed a second rate actor instead of a former naval officer and gun owner for POTUS.

Let's see, if an average person makes a joke about shooting a presidential candidate - wouldn't that person be placed under surveillance or possibly arrest?

Finally I'm in, and the right place. I'm not convinced this was such an innocent remark...Joke? He was talking to AA haters and people that has already expressed disdain for Obama. Some NRA are total wackos and kkk members. It is shocking he jokes like that to those people. If it had been a room full of Peace-loving Hippies or AA I can understand but look who the audience is. EVIL, EVIL no other word comes to mind.

He better not be chosen for Vice President. So Mr. preacher is not such a nice guy after all. It was no joke. It was wishful thinking. Republicans, your time is up!!! Shame on you Huckabee.

What Huckabee said is not funny. Why would he get in the NRA and talk that crazy talk. Was he trying to show off in front of Mcain and all his buddies. There are too many nuts out here. No telling what they would do. He are to be ashame of himself. And he call himself a Minister. The Bible say watch those wolves in sheep clothes.

This seems planned to me. I am not buying the "off the cuff" excuse.

The only comforting part is that the part about having a gun aimed at him did not seem to draw much laughter.
