Despite Oprah's best efforts, her producers forced her to air an "Oprah's Favorite Things for Summer" episode, where she gave away things like bathing suits and grills and makeup. The giveaways were decidedly more low-key than her traditional pre-holiday "Oprah's Favorite Things" episode, but the crowd reactions were not. Below watch the screams, the hugs, the tears, and the freak-outs:

From ABC, 5/16

For a reminder of what the crowd's reaction was like last winter, watch the video here.

Can't she just call the show "Whoring for Free Stuff"?

And women wonder why they aren't taken seriously....?

I have loads of respect for the many many strong, intelligent, and highly accomplished women out there, but seriously, you guys are your own worst enemy sometimes. This is a million times more pathetic than a bunch of fat dumb guys yelling at a football game.

Seriously.

I find this so sad...............I guess it makes Oprah feel good to make herself into "Lady Bountiful"!

Wow, just wow. I can't think of the appropriate words to describe this mass hysteria. Bizarro World.

TheBigO isn't "sharing", she wants to fill those seats every day with her materalistic, grasping cult members hoping to be gifted.

It might not be quite so bad if she didn't shout out the MSRP of each item.

Do they give the audience members amphetamines or something?

This is why I'm not getting married. Women are insane.

U huh....now tell us about your reaaction to playoffs. Then, tell us if you've ever gambled or bought a lottery ticket.

It's obscene really! These women obviously have completely forgotten that there's a war going on and that all these poor soldiers are out of sight out of mind. Oprah's disgusting - why doesn't she do a job about favorite things to sen to our brave soldiers? Our society is empty, it's embarassing - the reason for her success is the possibilities of give-aways= materialism is all that matter!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:23 AM on 05/19/2008

I think it's less "obscene" if you can feel how uncommon no strings generosity is in this culture and how starved most people are increasingly for any for of it.....more now, with every foundation crumbling in far too many lives than ever.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:21 AM on 05/19/2008

no strings...? ratings and self aggrandizing promotion.... the strings are nylon, but they're there if you really look.

Truly and utterly horrifying, I couldn't take my eyes off of it.

So what did they get?

!. A Turkey burger recepie
2. A gas grill
3. Swimsuit
4. Makeup
5. A tote bag
6 A GPS Navigation system
7 A $200 Gift cart for Mariott
8 A Cookbook
9 Oprah's latest book club pick

Plus of course....

10 a chance to be seen on national TV if you are the audience member looking the most ecstactic getting promotional swag.

This is what they got? With the way these bimbos were carrying on I figured they were possibly getting money, gold, diamonds, more cars? lol. All that hysteria for those items?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:31 AM on 05/19/2008

11. A big tax bill.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:43 PM on 05/18/2008

Ok the reactions were over the top for most these items but Grills and GPS systems are expensive. However - wouldn't MEN be more excited for those items than women?

When was the last time you saw a woman get excited over a grill?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:06 AM on 05/20/2008

Ummm. Best example of a mass fake orgasm I've ever seen

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:42 PM on 05/18/2008

Remember her other favorite thing--Obama--got the same reaction

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:13 PM on 05/18/2008

My initial thought exactly. Also entirely positive. No, obscenely ecstatic. Of course we would put THAT in her favorite thigs for FALL. Just like mine........and that of more people you will be able to shake a neocon at. Get ready.

Disgusting, appalling,...Wow....It makes me( a woman) not care for woman much more then I already do not...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:03 PM on 05/18/2008

Absolutely.....women are all alike. Also men. Also Democrats. Also Muslims. High marks.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:35 AM on 05/19/2008

I watched the show and it made me horrified by the audience reaction. How can anyone shriek about free stuff like that? Oprah too seemed bemused. Materailsm is getting this country in serious trouble (credit card debt, etc.) . But to not care about "woman" "women?" is going a bit too far...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:12 PM on 05/18/2008

Wow, that's crazy!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:26 PM on 05/18/2008

I love that show, the women get so excited, but really had to laugh when across the bottom of the screen was the ticker telling you how to burn off belly fat as the women danced ,jumped and screamed, wonder if that was done on purpose?? Fun!!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:31 AM on 05/18/2008

my ethiopian friends and i love this show ... we watch it while we eat lentils and rice and dream dream dream away the day. oh if only the world were as materialistic as oprah fans. all 6.4 billion people consuming like those of us in america. what a wonderful world it would be on this desert planet we call home.

I wasn't sure what was going on in this video. It was either women acting like children in toy commercials, or the holy rapture. Or both.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:47 AM on 05/18/2008

By all means....acting lke children is pathological. But not AS, as those adults with little affect who spend small fortunes in theray who yearn to get the sleeping child out of some internal lockbox. Right?

Hey, it's all just stuff. You will always want more, and there'll always be more. Stop pretending that you've never been filled with glee over an unexpected gift.

WTF was that all about? I just see hysterical and convoluted women screaming. Were they getting something for free? I hope it was that good because they look so pathetic and kind of scary. Oh America the land of the consumer and the bargains.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:42 PM on 05/17/2008

Why be so cynical? A "Favorite Things" show just in time for people to go out and spend that HUGE stimulus check on something extravagant.

I don't always agree with Oprah, but sometimes you see something kinda cool that you wouldn't mind having. No need to get undies in a wad.

Pathetic, not so much... convoluted ... not at all... scary... no, Dick Cheney with a gun is scary...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:00 AM on 05/18/2008

I've always enjoyed these Favorite Things shows - to see the items show cased - items that I may never have seen...BUT from the very first time she did one of these shows I was bothered by the way people reacted to getting more stuff. They aren't thrilled over the product. They are thrilled because they're getting goods most couldn't afford and that their neighbors won't have. It's sickening. Then again, we're ALL LIKE THAT on a smaller scale. America - the land of consumerisim. The country where most of the worlds resources are consumed as we buy every thing our little hearts desire. We snatch up every bright, shiney new gadge that's put out there as the next 'must have'. What we're witnessing on this clip is a characterization of ourselves - cartoonish perhaps BUT that is exactly how the rest of the world sees us. Sad isn't it?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:46 PM on 05/17/2008

What a certified Greedfest. I can barely stand to pass by a television when her show is on. The people that are squealing and bawling for the latest toy that we're sheepishly supposed to have is downright repulsive. Affluenza is alive and thriving in America.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:53 PM on 05/17/2008

Um, if they weren't materialistic they wouldn't be Oprah fans!!

This video is pure comedy!!!

Well there you have it! The amazing Obama voting block. Scary, isn't it?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:07 PM on 05/17/2008

What is beyond scary....is this kind of simplistic, capricious, entirely lacking in both data & discernment....utterance.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:49 AM on 05/19/2008

I'm sure a few people in that audience are voting for McCain or Hillary. Let's not be silly.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:15 PM on 05/18/2008

good shot becky !!! you go get em girl and while we're on the subject how about that reverend wrong ... get it ... wrong .... not wright. ohhhhhh the political punditry is getting deeper than the hole hillary has to climb out of to ask obama for a seat on his cabinet.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:09 AM on 05/18/2008

Gee, becky - that's odd......

The last Gallup Poll I consulted, HILLARY won the FEMALE voting block - almost 3-1.

Perhaps they were right - and it was a mistake giving women the right to vote - seeing as how you appear to be not only emotionally unbalanced when being given a grill or a makeover - but chronically bad at math as well.

:)

People are such suckers.

Idolize Orpah if you wish, but know that she doesn't pay for any of the merchandise given away on her show, neither did she pay for the Fords given to each person in the audience last year.

The manufacturers do that as good will in exchange for free advertising.

Granted, without the size of her audience they wouldn't bother. But let's not put her at the right hand quite yet. Manufacturers make money and suckers weep at the altar. But it's purely business.

very similar to the reaction vacuous obamabots have for their extrodinarily vacuous messiah ...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:04 PM on 05/17/2008

Yes, because Clinton supporters are the most rational beings on the planet. They know that math doesn't matter; they know that a multimillionaire, Ivy league educated former first lady, sitting US Senator is not one of the dreaded elites; they also know that she should have won because she ran the most effective campaign in modern political history.

You are so right snobama!
