Hillary Clinton is pushing harder and harder to convince the DNC to count the votes held in Florida in Michigan. And with reports suggesting that she is just going through the motions of the election, Clinton has apparently decided to ratchet up the rhetoric. During a rally in Florida yesterday, she not only compared the current situation to the 2000 election, she also referenced rigged elections in Zimbabwe:

Desperate to get attention for her cause to seat Florida and Michigan delegates, Hillary Clinton compared the plight of Zimbabweans in their recent fraudulent election to the uncounted votes of Michigan and Florida voters saying it is wrong when "people go through the motions of an election only to have them discarded and disregarded."

"We're seeing that right now in Zimbabwe," Clinton explained. "Tragically, an election was held, the president lost, they refused to abide by the will of the people," Clinton told the crowd of senior citizens at a retirement community in south Florida.

"So we can never take for granted our precious right to vote. It is the single most important, privilege and right any of us have, because in that ballot box we are all equal. You're equal to a billionaire. You're equal to the president, every single one of us."

Steve Benen, for one, isn't exactly pleased with Clinton's comparison:

I'm 35, and have been following politics for quite a while, and I've never been so disappointed with a politician I've admired and respected. Yesterday's tactics weren't just wrong, they were offensive. For that matter, they seem to be part of a deliberate strategy to tear Democrats apart and ensure a defeat in November....

Instead of trying to help bring the party together -- Election Day is 24 weeks away -- Clinton went to Florida to argue that if Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee, his nomination will be illegitimate. And if the DNC plays by the rules Clinton used to support, it's guilty of vote-suppression -- comparable to slavery, Jim Crow, and Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, the Obama camp has suggested their willingness to find some form of compromise. David Axelrod told NPR:

"We are open to comprise [sic]. We are willing to go more than half way. We're willing to work to make sure that we can achieve a compromise. And I guess the question is: is Senator Clinton's campaign willing to do the same?"

Axelrod continues: "Well, obviously, any compromise is going to involve some give, and that means if there's something on the table, we're willing to consider it. That may include us yielding more delegates than perhaps we would have, simply on the basis of the rules."

Hillary is right, She won Florida by over 300,000 votes and deserves the lion's or should I say lioness's share of Florida's delegates. She won Michigan overwhelmingly against the toughest candidate, "uncommitted". Obama removed his name from the ballot so he deserves no Michigan delegates. If the Democratic party fails to resolve Florida and Michigan fairly, you can say hello, President McCain!

Over and over I have heard the statement that Florida democrats "made their bed by defying the DNC rules about the primary"... yet very few people have pointed out the REAL problem... certainly not the Press!

THE REPUBLICAN CONGRESS IN FLORIDA VOTED THE EARLY PRIMARY TO SCREW THE DEMOCRATS... AND IT WORKED BECAUSE TOO MANY STUPID PEOPLE BELIEVE IT WAS THE DEMOCRATS FAULT!

At this point, the ONLY way to have a fair settlement of the problem would be to allow both Hillary and Obama actively campaign here in Florida for a few weeks, and then hold another primary. At the time Florida held it's primary, Hillary was the PRESUMED candidate in the national Press.

Ten times more democrats voted in the Florida and Michigan primarys than in all the caucus states combined. Clinton has some nerve to want them counted. Why give the nomination to the best candidate when we can give it to another fast talking guy with no record of success.
So Bush, So Gore.

Florida and Michigan were well aware of the consequences of their actions, and Hillary and Co voted to penalize them in August of 2007.

Hillary Clinton abandoned any respect for the truth when she compared the Democratic Party's refusal to accept the results of the Florida primary (conducted in violation of the party's rules) to the actions of the Zimbabwean dictator Roberto Mugabe's falsification of election returns a few weeks ago. For the past five years, brave democratic dissidents and protesting Zimbabweans who are both white and black have been arrested and beaten by Mugabe's security forces, women activists have been raped and killed, and entire neighborhoods known to be politically opposed to Mugabe have been bulldozed. Nothing approaching such repression has happened in the United States since the lynchings and killings of blacks in the South, at the height of segregationist fury in the early 20th century. For Senator Clinton to equate the Democratic Party's actions on the Florida primary dispute with the murderous brutality of an anti-democratic tyrant is more than an exaggeration, it's an insult to the party she wants to lead and the intelligence of her listeners.

Governor Paterson's own feelings regarding this on audio courtesy of TPM:

he happened to be at the original meeting - and Hillary had 12 supporters vote to disenfranchise the Fl and MI voters (her supporters were the majority)

< Obama ran a TV ad in Florida (he called it an over-run) but no ad agency is going to run in a whole state at no charge. When you run a TV ad they ask you which states you want it to run (so they can charge you accordingly). >
< Obama held at least one (possibly more) press conferences in Florida.
< I consider these two items as advertising your candidacy, and therefore qualifies as campaigning. >

Billary has displayed a lack of cohesive logic. She appears desperate and delusional. Who would want this as the Commander in Chief? Has she started doing drugs? She was the heir apparent until she displayed her real self. Get her out of here because she is not the answer to the past eight years and we do not need more of the same lying, cheating, and rationalizing that Dubya has used and Billary has displayed in this campaign. Everytime I see her, I throw up a little in my mouth.

Do you actually think that a person running for President of the Untited States should display a blatant cheaters approach to winning an election with her counting votes she signed a written statement not to count and asking that all the people in those states with cacuses not be counted taking away her opponents wins ? If you do then you really need some serious therapy !

If we're all equal, Hillary, how come some people are outside of the singular vote casting more votes than each of us. We both speak the English language, but somehow your vocabulary is personally demanding to hold more weight than my so called "equal voice" to that of your own. Your'e already wearing yourself thin and isn't it embarassing when you should already know the game of 'Know when to hold em' and when to fold em'. Bush peading with the Saudis for more oil embarrassed you not only as a person, but senator. This isn't a dress rehersal in life. It's the Real Deal and not the New Deal or maybe it is to you on some level. Eleanor Roosevelt you want to emulate. Her man was also of the same vintage wine as Bill so I'm wondering if you strive towards creating time travel sameness, reinventing it as you do yourself, moving towards the famed "New Deal" then you live in the Walt Disney propaganda machine of the "Wizard of Oz" cast of hundreds who were the Munchkins (the Little People... "It Takes a Village" attitude. Somewhere I think there was a book of thst same title.

SOME ONE NEEDS TO TELL HILLARY TO LEAVE!!!!!! NOW, SHE IS HURTING THE PARTY. BARACK WILL NOT PICK HER AS A RUNNING MATE BECAUSE SHE IS TRYING TO FORCE HIS HAND. I WOULD NOT EXCEPT THIS KIND TREATMENT BECAUSE THIS WILL TELL YOU WHAT TYPE OF VICE PRESIDENT SHE WOULD BE. IF SHE DID NOT GET HER WAY SHE WOULD JUST TRY TO STAB HIM IN THE BACK. HE COULD NOT TRUST HILLARY.

And where oh where are the superdelegates today!?!????? WHERE ARE THEY? I can't fathom how it is that they feel comfortable remaining in the shadows with Hillary's behavior such as it is. With EVERY proclamation that she has been 'cheated' by sexism, or not having Michigan and Florida's delegates seated (as they stand now), she further alienates her supporters from Barack Obama. It is no surprise that her supporters are hostile and polarized by her antics. With each passing day full of Zimbabwe-type comments, she fractures our party more and makes a win in November more difficult. She has consistently provided talking points for McCain's campaign and now that Barack Obama has the majority of pledge delegates, it is time to pull the plug superdelegates! If she were not fracturing the party, it would be one thing to say that she should stay in until June 3, but she is damaging our chances practically moment by moment!

Its not that Hilary cried that people find disgusting, its that she cried after losing Iowa and being down over 10 points in New Hampshire. She saw the end of her career and played her final card- crocodile tears. Now her surrogates like Pat Schroeder are making the rounds crying sexism.Hilary did this to herself. If there has been any sexism its from a lunatic fringe that has no influence.

She is the worst scum that has ever graced the American political system and I truly mean that. She is definitely on Bush's level. I wouldn't trust her with a nickel. Send her back to New York. If the people there want her as Governor, more power to them. Let her run as McCains VP, straight out of Lieberman's play book. can anyone put it past her. I don't.

Conyers subpoenas Karl Rove over Justice Department scandal

http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Conyers_subpoenas_Karl_Rove_0522.html

BREAKING -- 235 ET

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) issued a subpoena Thursday to former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove for testimony about politicization of the Department of Justice (DOJ), including the case of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, who was jailed for bribery in what was widely seen as a political prosecution.

The subpoena comes on the heels of a letter from Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin, who told the Judiciary Committee Wednesday that the president's former top advisor would refuse to testify voluntarily.

The hits keep coming closer...

Why is anyone surprised that Clinton would cheapen the blood shed by those opposing the Zimbabwean dictator if she thinks it might help her cause?

I just skimmed the article so I may have missed something.

But is Sister Yoda saying that the elections in Michigan and Florida - in which she was declared the winner - are just like the recent elections in Zim - which were rigged?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:02 PM on 05/22/2008

She's saying, that to deprive FL/MI seats at the delegation makes their elections moot, like those of Zimbabwe.

( Of course, the distinction that FL and MI were not sanctioned or fair in the first place seems to go unnoticed in her speeches. )

JUST LIKE OBAMA HAD TO STICK IT TO REV. WRIGHT ONCE HIS BEHAVIOR BECAME TOO OUTRAGEOUS --------- NOW HE --- OR HIS SURROGATES --- NEED TO STICK IT TO HILLARY --- BECAUSE HER BEHAVIOR HAS BECOME EVEN MORE HARMFUL ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SHE IS THREATENING TO DESTROY THE DEM"S CHANCE OF WINNING IN THE FALL --- UNLESS SHE IS ON THE TICKET ---------------- As always with Hillary --- it is all about me, me, me, me --- no matter what the cost to others --- to her party --- or to our nation. ---------------- Barack should craft a clear, concise statement pointing out how totally undemocratic (small d) Hillary"s current demands are. --------------- Contrary to her claims --- she is not fighting for voter rights --- instead she is fighting for a primary election rigged after the fact. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YES, FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN SHOULD HAVE DELEGATES SEATED AT THE CONVENTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BUT TREATING PRIMARIES --- THAT HILLARY AND BARACK AGREED IN WRITING WOULD NOT COUNT --- IN WHICH NONE OF THE CANDIDATES CONTESTED --- IN WHICH MANY VOTERS DID NOT VOTE BECAUSE THEY WERE TOLD THE PRIMARIES DID NOT COUNT --- AND --- IN ONE OF WHICH --- BARACK WAS NOT EVEN ON THE BALLOT ---------- TREATING SUCH PRIMARIES AS IF THEY WERE FAIR VOTES --- IS TOTALLY UNJUST TO ALL THE PEOPLE IN MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA --- WHO WOULD HAVE VOTED FOR OBAMA --- IF ONLY THOSE PRIMARIES HAD --- IN FACT --- BEEN FAIR.
