In separate interviews today, John McCain compared Barack Obama to Jimmy Carter. Speaking to Fox's Carl Cameron, McCain raised Carter's name, putting a face on his assertion that Obama wants to return "to the failed policies of the '60's and '70's."

And then, sitting down with NBC's Brian Williams, he poured it on -- and got to the heart of the matter. "Senator Obama says that I'm running for a Bush's third term," McCain said, picking up the central Democratic line of attack. "Seems to me he's running for Jimmy Carter's second."

Oh, please, rethugs have called every Dem running for President another Carter. Just like every Dem Senator running for Pres has magically been given the sobriquet "Most liberal Senator". That line only works on rethugs.

And anyway, didn't Carter win a Nobel peace prize? And Bush won it in... oh yeah warmonger.

Way to go John! That'll teach em', huh?(I'm being sarcastic) Way to even the tally... LOL Only two things: 1.)most young voters will not be phased by this. They don't remember Carter's term and 2.) Carter could not have been remotely as bad a president as Dubya.

Actually, if Obama gets elected, then all fascist republicans will disappear like the orcs at the end of the Lord of the Rings. . .

Sen. Obama is clearly much different than Carter on so many levels.

All this is is a pathetic last-ditch attempt by Sen. McCain to answer the whole "Bush's 3rd term" assertion.

Everyone knows that this is the case, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of McCain's chief surrogates, who admitted on ABC on Sunday that McCain's policies as president would "absolutely" be an "extension" or even an "enhancement" of the Bush policies.

Besides, I'd take a 2nd term of Carter opposed a 3rd term of Bush any day!

I thank God I served in the U. S. Marines during the term of Jimmy Carter, a decent, civilized Commander-In-Chief who was careul not to send us into harm's way on a whim or for profit. This kind of "insult" only plays to the 25% who still believe Bush is doing a great job.....

He was completely right about oil, we should have listened. Another thing, I don't know much about his presidency but I can tell you one thing, he gave a damn then, and he gives a damn now. McCain doesn't.

Carter wanted to get us off of foreign oil. Given another 4 years he might have done it, or at least got the ball rolling. I'll take Carter's 2nd term over Bush's 3rd any day.

Jimmy Carter...George Bush...Jimmy Carter...George Bush...Jimmy Carter...George Bush? Between the 2, who has the LOWEST APPROVAL RATING.

As a repub, I think that it's sad that McNugget has tried this. Does he have ANY original ideas? This man is making me more purpler by the day.

Little early for acts of desperation on McCains part. Some parts of this new electorate don't even remember Carter. Considering McCains current memory lapses I am suprised he remembers Carter.

If you're going to emulate someone, JImmy Carter is a pretty good role model.

James Earle (Jimmy) Carter, Jr., attended public schools and got into the US Naval Academy the hard way and graduated in the top of his class. Graduating from Plains High School in 1941, he attended Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia. After a year there, Carter transferred to Georgia Institute of Technology to study mathematics for a year in order to qualify for the U.S. Naval Academy. In 1943, Carter received an appointment to the academy and became a member of the Class of 1947. After completing the accelerated wartime program, he graduated on 5 June 1946 with distinction and obtained his commission as ensign.

On the other hand, McCain was a spoiled, privileged brat who attended and graduated from the expensive private boarding school - Episcopal High School. Annual tuition there is around $40K and it has always has been only for the rich. It has been documented that McCain wasn't an academic "achiever" and probably took some smart guy's appointment when he got into the USNA only because his daddy and grand-daddy were Admirals. It has also been documented that he broke lots of rules there - and where else have we seen this "rules don't apply to me" mentality? So he graduated at the bottom of class - #894 out of 899 midshipmen.

Carter was such a fool.... starting a huge government initiative to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels. Thank god that Reagan and the Republicans put an end to it as soon as Reagan hit office.

Hell, if Carter's wasteful ideas had been followed, our oil companies would be nearly as profitable today, and we'd have no reason to dominate the Middle East.

Right and Carter handled a hostage crises in which everyone came back alive. What a wimp. When 250 marines were killed by a truck bomb Reagan withdrew all forces from Lebanon without criticism. What a hero.
