Maverick GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul has booked an arena in Minneapolis for a "mini-convention" that could steal some of John McCain's thunder just days before he accepts the Republican nomination.

A Paul campaign aide said the Texas congressman hopes to pack about 11,000 supporters into the Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota on Sept. 2, which coincides with the second day of the Republican National Convention at the Xcel Energy Center in neighboring St. Paul.

The timing is good. I hope the execution is good as well. The Republicans need this message badly. Democrats would do well to pay attention too.

Think there's any chance his convention will have more folks? Now that would be funny, maybe a little op chaos on our part could make it happen....just go and party...listen to the ol'coot for a few then party on!

That would be funny, but then again, what isn't funny about him?
BTW - Is he a coot or a loon? Or maybe a turkey or a vulture? A turkey vulture?

The dead elephant party is getting challenged by Ron Paul and Bob Barr. Between them they will su-ck what little support there is for Mc-Loser away. Too bad... NOT!

Thank you, Ron Paul, for your contribution to the Democrat version of Operation Chaos.

Exactly. Even Obama supporters are tempted to do this. From an email list just today:

"Does anyone want to sign up and donate to Bob Barr? His Libertarian Party is guaranteed to give McCain a run for the money. Should we think of giving him enough support to ensure that his campaign stays alive, so that he can effectively challenge McCain for the Republican vote? You have to sign up (email address and zip code) to reach the "contribute" page."

Supporters of no-chance candidates fail to realize that all they are doing is supporting the gaming of the system to produce false outcomes. Its a pathetic, myopic, and scandalous. The courageous would demand they exit the race unless they can show truly competitive numbers at the end of the main parties' primaries.

You're completely missing the point. Supporters of "no-chance" candidates are sick and tired of "lesser of two evil" voting and desperately want to be able to vote for someone they love instead of against someone they hate. If more people would reject the media appointed candidates and support good candidates instead, we'd all have someone worth voting for in November!

The GOP has Ron Paul, the Democratic Party has Kucinich. Both right on more issues than the candidates, but probably incapable of governing, and certain to never be elected to the Presidency. Gotta love-em.

I hope Ron Paul steals the limelight and effectively demolishes the neocon party. If it was truly the Republican Party, Ron Paul would be the nominee and Barack would have a much harder time. But I like Barack as well, so I hope he does maximum damage to the neonazis.

As a strong supporter of Senator Obama, I may see Ron Paul on a diffrrent plane than some others. Personally, I think Ron Paul being in Minneapolis the same time as McCain is a stroke of genius. I was born, raised, and educated in MN - the TV stations will cover both men- nothing Minneostan's like better that a good show of in-fighting. Barr and Paul are going to hit McCain's numbers very hard giving Senator Obama Minnesota by a landslide. Pawlenty, the Republican governor, is not that well-liked in MN.

Ron Paul is closer to Barack Obama than he is to John McWar. I think Bob Barr should choose Ron Paul for his running mate. They will pick off hundreds of thousands of repug votes. But it still won't be enough to beat Barack. In Nov., we will CRUSH the GOP.

Thank you, Ron Paul, for defying your party and the corporate media in telling the truth about how we got in this mess (and how we could get out). You and Kucinich are the only decent people in Congress, the only real patriots, and the only people with any courage at all. The American people don't deserve either of you.

Years from now, when the US state collapses under the weight of its own empire and debt, and the country is relegated to third-world status, history will remember the brave, principled stand you are making. We will never forget.
