A statewide Cronkite/Eight poll finds that only 38 percent of Arizona voters would vote for McCain. 28 percent said they would vote for Obama, and 34 percent were undecided. Choosing Hillary Clinton as his vice-presidential running mate could cost Barack Obama about 5 percentage points in the state, according to the poll.

A few weeks ago McCain acknowledged that he could lose Arizona, calling his home a "swing state" even though it voted Republican in every presidential election but one since 1952.

I live in Arizona and I'll tell you something more valuable then some crap shoot poll in June.

Mccain has had commercials running since Obama won his nomination.

Why would Mccain be spending any money this early in his Home State of 25 years which has voted republican since 1952?

Because Obama is already almost even here, despite a semi-fractured party after a tough primary season in which he was forced to give Mccain a 2 1/2 month head start. Once they have the conventions and debates this poll will have almost reversed.

Obama will carry Arizona along with all but the redist of red states come November. This will be the democrats revenge for 1980, 84, 88. 2000 and 2004. Mccain will carry less than 15 states

Thanks for the firsthand info. I listen to KPHX, and I'm always heartened by how fed up the callers are with McCain. And it sounds like he's given you a lot of reasons for it.

I like your 15 state prediction.

Here's McCain's problem: because he's been around so long, the mainstream media doesn't appear to be interested in re-vetting him for newer voters. How many people even know what the Keating 5 Scandal, his first wife, his recent questionable land deals, his graduation from the bottom 1% of his class from Annapolis or that he lost 5 military aircraft?

They aren't aware either of his voting record showing a dismal lack of support for our troops and veterans, though millionaire McCain has no problem accepting nearly $60,000 a year, tax free, in military disability pension at a rate of 100%. He has every right to that, even if he doesn't need the money, but our troops and veterans today certainly deserve the same.

Obama's life has rightfully been put under the microscope. It's about time the media gave the same treatment to Dear John.

I don't think it's because McCain has been around for so long. I think it's a combination of those "kiss the media" barbecues McCain is always throwing, the "maverick" myth that makes for a good—read mindless—media narrative, and the political interests of Big Media.

They know about McCain. They just don't report. Our media—our corporate media, our television media—does NOT serve the public.

It just shows McCain does collaborate with Democrats ... at least when it comes to ripping off the life savings of tens of thousands of retired people. Interesting that McCain claims he is not bought and paid for by the manipulators who helped him get elected. Clearly he chose to be the puppet of Keating and interfere with the S&L regulators.

He did it again with the EADS contract that cost Americans 50,000 jobs. 5 EADS lobbyists were on his campaign staff. 3 still are. McCain directly interfered with the $80 billion air refueling contract that Boeing had won and EADS lost. He directly interviened with the source selection committee and got EADS back in. That is the reason Boeing lost and the foreign company EADS won. His advisor explained it when Carly Fiorina said Americans do not have a right to jobs.

Let me see; we have a half white man who claims to be black, asking white folks; whom he disowns to elect him president of the country his wife disclaims.

Remeber J.D. Hayworth, I still get giddy over his defeat. If you really want to hope, look at the Az voter registration trends.

Oh, yes, I do remember J. D. Hayworth. He turned out to be a big political blowhard. Now I hear he has a radio show. Too bad he didn't return to being a sports announcer in PHX. He was tolerated back then.

I too still get giddy thinking about JD's defeat. He's back on the radio as some sort of sports announcer (which is all he ever was to begin with)......

Calm down...

Remember: It's June. Kerry was ahead in some state polls where he eventually lost big (Missouri, Nevada), and Bush was ahead at times in New Jersey. So you never know...

The one caveat is that Obama isn't running against an incumbent in these Post Katrina, economic times. So that may mean the numbers have some relevancy.

Maybe they haven't heard that McLastInClass was a POW?

Perhaps they haven't heard that McLastInClass doesn"t like earmarks even if the money pays to fix broken down bridges and other wasteful projects like that?

Perhaps they didn"t know that McLastInClass courageously dumped his disabled wife for a younger, rich blonde?

The "admiral" just needs to re-introduce himself to the state that he has served for 26 years.

Spoken like a true, brainwashed, neocon imbecile. Like someone completely clueless that our Iraq fiasco has profoundly strengthened Iran. I'm sure you don't have the capacity to understand why, but here's a clue: Shiite.

"Choosing Hillary Clinton as VP could cost Obama about 5 percentage points in Arizona."

Hillary can't be vetted anyway.

The question is: How many points would choosing Wes Clark as VP be likely to GET him?

Obama / Clark would be a powerful here in the West.

If Obama can turn Arizona BLUE in the polls - that will be the end of McCain!
I just hope that the GOP doesn't replace him at the convention, because then a new fight will have to be waged - and as it is now Obama will have a landslide up against McCain!

Also, know this, ever heard of NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND? Every school is forced to buy the tests, know who's company sells those test, yup, you guessed it, NEAL BUSH IS THE "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND TESTING COMPANY"!
The Bush's are the amazing crime family led by big necked Barbara

HAVING LIVED IN ARIZONA FOR 30 YEARS BEFORE MOVING BACK TO THE MID WEST, I CAN HONESTLY SAY THIS TURKEY NEVER DID SUPPORT HIS HOME STATE, ALL HE DID WAS HELP KEATING AND GET HIS WIFE OFF DRUG CHARGES, ALSO MANAGED TO HELP GIVE STATE LAND TO ANOTHER GUY THAT SUPPORTED HIM. I THINK ARIZONA IS SMART ENOUGH TO KEEP HIM FROM RUINING THE U.S.A., AT LEAST I HOPE SO.

Within a short period of living in Arizona I realized we also had a 2 party system - Republicans and Libertarians. Democrats didn't even field a candidate, even though it wouldn't take much to get someone on the ballot and get some of the issues out there in the public square. A lot of transplants in the state now, maybe the 50 State Strategy will make a difference. I HOPE!
