The realization almost always prompts a double take, a moment of inspection, maybe even a debate: Is baby-faced Barack Obama, the symbol of a younger political generation, actually aging in front of us?

By his own admission this week, "the gray is coming quick," so that it now dusts his head like snowflakes. The laugh lines cut a little deeper, and the crow's-feet around his eyes appear slightly more pronounced.

Can't say I'm surprised he's going grey with all the stress he's put himself through in the last eighteen months. When was the last time the poor guy got a decent night's sleep?

Besides, it's not going to make much difference to voters since McCain looks like he's just been dug up.

If he can't handle the stresses of a primary season, and election, how is he going to handle the pressures of being President? My main concern is....is he is still smoking? When his medical records were being discussed they said he was still smoking, but trying to quit. Has he quit or is he exposing those around him......his children in particular, to second hand smoke?

Oh, he can obviously handle the stress. He seems to be as even-tempered as ever, it's just aged him a little is all.

As for smoking, he may or may not be still smoking. If he is, it doesn't necessarily mean he's exposing those around him to it. I smoke but my wife and pets are never exposed to the smoke because I smoke purely in my home-office which has a powerful extractor fan.

Who said he couldn't handle it? If he couldn't handle it, he would have conceded the nomination to Hillary, right? All they're saying is that the stress of campaigning has appeared to make Obama age a bit, that's all.

Smoking is a hard habit to quit as it is, and the stress of campaigning probably makes quitting ten times more difficult.

I noticed that Barack was becoming increasingly gray since I saw him in February and I thought he was just laying off the Grecian Formula. Nothing like a few gray hairs to look more presidential and wise.

Going grey? Hell, if I'd gone through what he's gone through in the past year or so, I'd be dead!

My hair turned gray soon after my disabled son was born, and I was quite a bit younger then than Barack Obama is now. My son is 18 years old now, campaigning for Obama, and doing just fine, thank you. We are all getting older at exactly the same rate. So it goes . . . .

Heh, you're right we are all aging at the same rate besides I like the look of a distinguished looking man with "salt & pepper" hair and the picture of him with his wonderful family is a beautiful sight to behold.

Hell, aren't WE all a little grayer from the past 7 1/2 years? I know I am.

I just hope and pray that he'll be able to live a long life and grow old and SUPER GREY like Nelson Mandella.

This is the ONLY change this guy is going to bring: his hair turning gray.

That is it.

Then vote for McCain, Neaguy and keep our country in Iraq another 100 years with the war debt to go along with it which means no money left over for American's healthcare and education and lets not forget infrastructure repairs the list is endless on what Americans need right now and it shouldn't include trillions in war debt. I really don't see how you could make that post with a straight face, Neaguy because the difference between Sen. Obama and McCain are miles apart with McCain toting the Bush agenda.....or are you McCains age and going a little goofy on us now, lol

To anybody concerned about the effects of aging I would "highly" recommend large amounts of cannabis. The cannabinoids are powerful antioxidants that stave off the typical damage caused by free radicals in the neural system and thus slow the aging process.

It kept me young (along with liberally self-prescribed alcohol) till I was 35. When I left those two old friends behind, I started to grow up and make something of myself. I sometimes speculate that I may indulge of the pakalolo (that's the Hawaiian name for it... paka=tobacco, lolo=crazy) again when I'm old enough to have no more responsibilities. On the other hand, if somebody doesn't fix the economy soon, I'll never reach that stage.... Either the stress brought on by the last 8 years of cheney-bush will kill me, or I'll never have enough put away to retire.

I'm not sure how to break this to you, but I know a lot of 'old hippies' that have smoked a lot of pot, for a lot of years (like George Carlin) and none of them look like it has slowed their aging process one bit...but you probably can't really see that...you're perception of reality being so muted and all...

Obama's mind, temperment, and intellect are still in 100% tip top shape. That is all that matters. Consider the alternative with McBush; a total meltdown as he cusses everyone around him out, or grabs them by the collar. Now that's scary.

...or maybe he decided to lay off the Grecian fomula...maybe the gray hair will give the illusion of wisdom...something to follow up all that fancy rhetoric with...?
