Last month Seymour Hersh of the New Yorker reported that the Bush Administration has stepped up covert operations inside Iran. Now the Times of London, citing information from a senior Pentagon official, says that Bush backs an Israeli plan for a strike on that country's nuclear facilities:

President George W Bush has told the Israeli government that he may be prepared to approve a future military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities if negotiations with Tehran break down, according to a senior Pentagon official.

Despite the opposition of his own generals and widespread scepticism that America is ready to risk the military, political and economic consequences of an airborne strike on Iran, the president has given an "amber light" to an Israeli plan to attack Iran's main nuclear sites with long-range bombing sorties, the official told The Sunday Times.

"Amber means get on with your preparations, stand by for immediate attack and tell us when you're ready," the official said. But the Israelis have also been told that they can expect no help from American forces and will not be able to use US military bases in Iraq for logistical support.

Nor is it certain that Bush's amber light would ever turn to green without irrefutable evidence of lethal Iranian hostility. Tehran's test launches of medium-range ballistic missiles last week were seen in Washington as provocative and poorly judged, but both the Pentagon and the CIA concluded that they did not represent an immediate threat of attack against Israeli or US targets.

"It's really all down to the Israelis," the Pentagon official added. "This administration will not attack Iran. This has already been decided. But the president is really preoccupied with the nuclear threat against Israel and I know he doesn't believe that anything but force will deter Iran."

Iran and Israel have no outstanding beef with each other.
They share no borders and have no rivalry.
Prior to Islamo fascist fanatics taking over Iran, Israel and Iran had a decent working relationship.
There is only ONE reason there's tension between the two: Iranian mullahs are drooling with rage that Jews have their own state, and in the area than Iran intends to dominate.

P.S. The ONLY thing Iran does for Palestinians is send weapons and train murderers.
Iran provides NO medical aid, NO food, NO financial aid -- only weapons and explosives. At least Hussein paid real cash to Palestinians. Iran just uses them as cannon fodder for geo-political purposes. So whats new in the Middle East.

Just 6 months and a week left to build the great George W. Bush "goodbye from the world's greatest polluter", "I stepped in deep economic doo-doo", "Why are the Iraqis telling us to leave without gving us their oil?" "What a tortured web we weave when all we practice of the Constitution is deceive?" legacy. "Now, Israel, I let you kick Pal butt for eight years, build more settlements, bomb Lebanon, and bomb Syria. Hell, it's just right that you bomb the EYE-A TOLL-A for me so I can leave office with the entire Middlle East in flames, just like Cheney, Condi and me imagined it." And you thought that the AntiChrist was just a fable of the Bushwhacking radical evangelical right to smite movement! Holy Will Farrell!

I do not support Israel attacking Iran. To hell with Bush and his cronies. I cannot wait until they televise his war crimes trial and the results of those trials. It would be a bigger event than the Super Bowl with a world wide audience waiting and wanting to watch.

The Founders left a gaping whole in the Constitution when they did not address succession of a President who is insane. Even the 25th Amendment leaves us no option, as our Vice President is arguably less stable than our President. Incompetency is so obvious to everyone but its victim.

Iran has made it clear that, if attacked, she will unleash defensive retaliations against us as allies of Israel everywhere she can reach us. The "negotiations" Bush refers to are with others, ... for he will not send Rice to discussions with Iran. This is the Iraq WMD argument all over again, America! Bush will declare them "failed" and we will assist Israel in attacking Iran.

With all due respect this is a great article. But maybe the headline could be a little different. Maybe it could be "Bush supports plan by Israel to further skyrocket OIL prices" It is already very apparent to the rest of the world what militarilly interfering in Middle East countries has done for the cost of oil. And speculators rise the price every time someone rattles a sabre at Iran. What will it cost to get to work or buy food once someone actually does something to Iran rather than threaten.

Another pathetic policy mistake to further ruin the lives of everyone on the planet and not just the American people. America did not need to invade, attack, or support an attack on North Korea to get them to the table and agree to become non-nuke. And North Korea was already nuclear as far as weapons go! What is any different about Iran except they have no nuclear weapons!

Another chance at more war due to an imagined threat! What about the REAL threat in a nuclear armed Pakistan where Al-Qaida is currently based? Doesn't that scare you more than anything Iran has said? It should.

Yes - Irrefutable evidence like Bush and Cheney had with Iraq! Right?

I think this news piece is B.S., why would Israel attack Iran. . . hezbollah? Then again they did launch an attack against an iraqi nuclear target during the 80's.

Do they have the tactical capability to launch a sortie so far away? last I heard they didn't.

I'll tell ya one thing, if they do it, it's not possible without U.S. intel

Israel is the ONLY country in the world that gets our satellite imaging in the best resolution and receives this info FREE OF CHARGE. Ask Admiral Bobby Inman.

One thought we should keep in mind: These crazies in the Administration WANT WAR! They don't want any agreement with Iran. They want to demolish that country like we have demolished Iraq. And yes, they certainly don't care about skullduggery (pretend real or actually imagined) on the part of Iran. They are creating only one strong country in the Middle East (our best friend Israel) and the other Middle Eastern countries are damned - and doomed. Thanks to American taxpayers and 2004 voters.

Well to be honest Iran is right next to Iraq. If they made it there, what is so hard about another 100 miles to the east. Of course when the Israeli's went to Iraq and back their planes almost ran out of gas. I guess all they need is one of those mid-air refuelling tankers over the persian gulf to overcome that problem. Hmm $200 a barrel oil by the end of the year.

Perhaps if Iran would stop funding Hizbullah terror armies on Israel's northern border with Lebanon, and if Iran would explicitly and openly declare its intention to live in peace with Israel, and if Iran would cease to threaten to destroy Israel off the face of the planet, and if Iran would...well, you see where I'm going. Nations that want to live in peace ACT like it and TALK like it and DO it. Israel has not attacked Iran and has tried repeatedly, for decades, to live in peace with its Arab and Islamic neighbours. With few exceptions, Israel's gestures have been met with raving, irrational anger and hatred. Why won't the "liberal" establishment ever recognize that tiny, democratic Israel, where women and gays and minorities have rights (unlike most of the Middle East) should be deserving of protection?

Well - tghen let's also talk about the rights of Mordechai Vanunu and of the Palestinians who are kept in custody for lifelong terms without any legal trials in Israel - and let's not forget Israel INVADED Lebanon in 2007 AND, the fact that, the two IDF soldiers, which were caught by Hezbolah prior to Israel's attack on Lebanon/Hezbollah, where caught on LEBANESE soil...

How much will Bush's latest warmongering cost you at the pump?
If only Bush could snap his fingers and raise gasoline prices! What, he can?
Oil speculators love it every time that the MSM trys to whip up a crisis over Iran.
So does the military industrial complex: If, Iran has a missile that can hit Israel: it high time to's build a missile defense system in Central Europe.

We are being screwed by AIPAC, spineless and/or dual allegiance congress, defense lobbyists, complicit MSM, oil speculators. Who did I leave out?

Will there finally be riots in the streets of Washington, if there simply will be no more oil to make gas from availlable for any amount of Dollars in the World, because the shipping agencies can't afford the prices of insurance covery for their bulk-carriers anymore, once Israel and the USA will have begun bombing Iran - because Iran, in legal and justified retaliation, is going to sink every oil-tanker it can reach with their Silkworm-anti-ship-missiles and bombs every oil-terminal in the Persian Gulf it can reach with their Shahab-3-missiles?

I dearly hope so...

And why shouldn't we expect that eventually, the people who morally object to this despicable attack on Iran, a country that has not invaded a neighbor for hundreds of years (unlike our "best friend" Israel), why shouldn't we expect that they will retaliate right here in the USofA? I fear that very response.
