Now this is just sad. Sen. Chuck Grassley, an Iowa Republican who has long led the conservative forces of his state, has been denied his customary position as a voting delegate to the Republican National Convention -- and it's being done by an even more conservative bunch.

The Iowa Christian Alliance, a successor to the state's Christian Coalition, has effectively taken over the state party's executive committee, and they obviously weren't happy with Grassley. It does seem curious, though, when one considers that he came up in the ranks of conservative activists and was elected to the Senate in 1980 on Ronald Reagan's coattails, and is a reliably conservative vote on issues like abortion and gay rights. What could have gotten them angry?

I was born, raised and lived most my life in Iowa. I know quite a bit about Senator Grassley and Iowa Christians. But my comments were censored. No use to repeat them.

Are you SURE they were sensored? How do you know? ...This site has had a major "upgrade" recently and there are new bugs - and lots of posts reported missing, including some of my own that I KNOW were absolutely squeaky clean. Your posts MAY have been merely lost to the bit-bucket by a bug...

Another perfect example that illustrates Chris Hitchen's premise that:
"religion spoils everything".

These so-called Christians are more interested in winning votes for the White House than saving souls for God's House.

I thought that churches were exempt from taxation as long as they keep out of politics. Since this obviously isn't working, let's UN-exempt them, All of them ~ and pronto.

Couldn't agree more. You have to play to play. Even Jesus said that.

Sen. Grassley should not be intimated by these so called Christians who think their finances should not be looked into with their Lavish life styles while their congregation works for a living and many go hungry while they preach Prosperity that has nothing to do with God's Word.

Sen. Grassley must continue this investigation these or some of these churches are out of control and are far removed from BIbical teachings are are strictly into living lavish life styles, buying Bishop T.D. Jakes a Convertable Bently with the congregation's tithes and money , in Tampa at Church Without Walls which has since gone on the Block for sell after Sen. Grassley exposed these churches. If they were teaching and doing God's word they would still be standing.

Cfeflo Dollar was on television trying to raise $1 Million Dollars to give to Kenneth & Gloria Copeland for their Anniversary GIft, can you believe it?

Did it ever occur to Rev. Dollar how his congregation and other congregatioin were living as opposed to his life style. Dollar came on CNN and showed a video with his Personal Employed Chef serving his family dinner.

Right. It's the first rule of the Pharasies who run these evangelical scams.

The Iowa Christian Alliance....................................They should remove the Christian word from their group.

Christians are not political, power hungry, greedy, etc. These are not the signs of Christians and they should be ashamed of themselves. They have forgotten the very Bibical principles, "Do unto others" it has nothing to do with Politics.....................ever.

What a shamed. We wish Sen. Grassley well, but he's better off knowing who these folk are and what they actually represent. its certainly not Bibical Teachings of Christ..

Am I recalling this correctly?

Isn't Grassley one of McCain's colleagues who had an "unstable McCain" experience that has appeared in press reports?

Coincidence?

They are eating their own.

The Iowa Christian Alliance, successor to the Christian Coalition, will not tolerate descent, no matter how trivial, or the continued existence of a society based upon religious freedom. It is their commitment that everyone is entitled to their own religious beliefs provided those beliefs do not differ from The Iowa Christian Alliance.

As long as TVEvangelistas think that they can take over the government, Democrats will prevail. What a bunch of nutcases. Senator Grassley is one of the more decent Republicans; at least he is sincere and not a neocon. The Republican Convention is gonna be a nightmare and a pathetic spectacle. The Republicans have done everything they can to swallow up and spit out the Constitution of the United States. And the Iowans are doing this with their elected Senator of their own party! The Republicans will not get anything back until the moderates are in charge again.

Just goes to show how REALLY RADICAL the christian right wing loonies are. They've now exposed themselves and shown how narrow minded they really are.

Wow. These people are pretty scary. I wonder what they may be capable of, should the nightmarish day arrive when they find themselves in a position of real power.
