McCain Meeting With Jindal Shrouded In Mystery

Mystery continues to surround Republican presidential hopeful John McCain's plans to interrupt a tour of battleground states today for a visit to New Orleans and a meeting with Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Campaign officials confirm that McCain will fly to New Orleans tonight but declined to give any more details about the visit. The trip attracted even more attention after a nationally syndicated columnist reported that McCain planned to name his running mate this week, sparking speculation that Jindal is a finalist.

McCain deflected the question Tuesday when asked whether was going to make an announcement this week.

It isn't going to be Bobby Jindal. He is a regional candidate who will go no further than Louisiana politics, where he will fit right in. Although a Catholic, Jindal is the poster boy for the Revival Tent Republicans who have had their one and only candidate in the White House for the past eight years. The snake handling brigade of the GOP is going to be relegated back to the attic where they will only be allowed out once every four years on Election Day.

It won't be Sarah Palin either. Her birth of a Downs Syndrome child isn't going to play in this day and age. It'll be Minnesota's Pawlenty or Mitt Romney.
