New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson ended his campaign for the presidency Wednesday after twin fourth-place finishes that showed his impressive credentials could not compete with his rivals' star power.

Richardson planned to announce the decision Thursday, according to two people close to the governor with knowledge of the decision. They spoke on a condition of anonymity in advance of the governor's announcement.

I was very sorry to hear of Mr. Richardsons departure.
He had much experience to ad to the debates.

I liked him. I think he did not have the money of the top three. He's a hunter. Why didn't the NRA flood him with cash? I thought they were bipartisan outdoor enthusiasts.

Not a surprise at all!

He's a good guy, but not President material.

He should be a good choice for the upcoming Dem cabinet.

it been said he going to stay as governor of NM and finish his terms...I don't know if he going to run again but could retire anyway.

Beside and I always want to say this
When was the last time a fat man started a war :)

Richardson 08...still got my support

Richardson wanted to be the Democratic Party chairman and Bill hosed him by by selecting his manservant Mcauliffe. Now, Richardson has been running to be Hillary's VP from day one. The sad part about that is she's going to pick either Clark or Evan Bayh. Poor Bill. Alot of time wasted smooching Hill's XXXL ass with nothing to show for it.

Today the press finally mentioned the name of Bill Richardson. Hooray for democracy and our free press.

Richardson will most probably serve in the next administration. He has alot of talents, and won't grab center stage.

The MSM and the not so mainstream wanted Obama and Clinton, so that's where all the attention went. Never mind the fact that since they have all the money they can buy all the attention they want.
It really should be the job of the media to tell us about the people who have the good credentials, but not the star power. Richardson, Biden and Kucinich have the best credentials, but you would never know it from all the hype given "top two".
Democrats are just as easily fooled as the rest of the country.

Of course he lost. Richards was experienced and liberal and genuine, but he was also disheveled, overweight, and prone to gaffes.

Today's Democratic party much prefers slick and corporate over substance. That's why even this election--which should be a shoo-in for the Democrats--will go down to the wire yet again.

Incidentally, I agree with JANE22"s enthusiasm for "the shock doctrine"- an excellent book that really helps provide a lens through which to interpret a lot of the policies our government is following. It exposes the thinking behind those policies. I third FIRSTBLOWUPDOLLLAURA - Kucinich should stay in the race for as long as possible to keep the issues near and dear to many of us on the table.A note to progree08- I am a psychiatric nurse and can tell you from experience that Geodon and Abilify do not work. If you want to help him, recommend old fashioned Haldol or even Trilafon- far more efeective.

It is unfortunate since he was the only candidate with a concrete exit plan for Iraq. I hope Edwards can step up to the plate and garner more support. He is more concerned with poverty and is for withdrawal from Iraq (although he initially had supported the war). If Obama actually runs the problem will not be that Democrats won't vote for him; it is that every racist yahoo from Pine Bluff Arkansas and beyond will put down the beer cans and get off their duff and go out to vote against him. People who would ordinarily be indifferent to politics will make it a point to vote just to keep a black man out of the whitehouse. Clinton is too cozy with the corporate elite to be a candidate who can make a difference. Edwards is the only hope.

Shit, libs will only support Hispanics who are here illegally!

Richardson has more character then all the front runners combined. Libs have a bad habit of supporting the WORST possile person.

He needs to drop about a 100 pounds.

I'm really surprised by this... I would have liked to see him at least wait unitl after Nevada. As a Western state governor, a Hispanic, and a guy with a LOT of experience I would have thought Nevada was HIS for the taking.

Bill is a good man and has served this country with honor and dignity. He may not have a $400 haircut, but his heart is in the right place. The people of New Mexico are very fortunate to have him as their Governor.

Bill Richardson will repair his relationship with the Clintons and he is on the short list for a veep nomination if Hillary wins.

I would suspect that Obama would ask Edwards to reprise his 2004 role as the veep nominee.

Usually, the veep nominee is not repeated....even when they get the nomination more than once and lose.

Witness Dewey - a Republican - in both 1944 and 1948.....or Stevenson - a Democrat - in both 1952 and 1956...or Nixon in 1960, 1968 and 1972.

I hate to see Richardson drop out. As in INDEPENDENT, he is one of the few Democrats that I would have voted for president.

He is bright, but, his energy level seemed to be on LOW.

Bill Richardson will likely become Secretary of State.

Biden, Dodd, Richardson and Kucinich have good experience. I feel whoever wins these guys should be given very high ranking posts.

I like Kucinich straight talk but poor thing doesn't have the look. LOOK-A-LIKE guys can fix him.

thank God!!! we do not need a president that beleives in open border and legalize people in this country to entered it by breaking the law. I am an immigrant and waited in line back in my country of birth to show respect for the law and never took public money to support myself or cover for my medical expenses or of my family. same goes to hillary, obama, maccain: they do not deverse to be president because they are not willing to be taugh on closing down our borders.

Even as a libertarian Republican I have to admit that Bill Richardson is has been and will hopefully continue to be an amazing public servant. Good run sir. Good run.
