Mehdi Army fighters attacked police patrols in southern Baghdad overnight, police said on Friday, further fraying a seven-month-old ceasefire called by Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr to rein in his militia.

The clashes in Baghdad's Shurta district follow outbreaks of violence in the southern Iraqi city of Kut in which Mehdi Army fighters battled U.S. and Iraqi security forces. Three people were killed in fresh fighting in Kut late on Thursday.

The fighting took place on the same day that Iraq marked the fifth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion to topple Saddam Hussein.

On Friday, five people were wounded in clashes between Mehdi Army fighters and U.S. and Iraqi security forces in the Hay al-Amil area of southwestern Baghdad, police said.

OK Fellas, its time to stop sitting around preaching to the choir. We've got to get up, go OUT, and wake up the American Electorate. My God, I watch Cspan's Washington Journal Call In every morning, and let me tell you. The misstatements, and political and social ignorance is frightening!

Expose this puppet-show media for the dangerous propaganda machine it is. 60% of Americans believe the MILITARY SURGE in Iraq is WORKING. In fact, what is WORKING is the MONITARY SURGE, coupled with the Sh'ite Cleric Al-Sadr's CEASE-FIRE! The responsibility for this knowledge gap is owned solely by the Corporate Media.

I remember studying history in the grades and the battle of Trenton in which G. Washington defeated the Hessians, hired mercenaries of Great Britain. The teacher and kids regarded the Hessians as the lowest of the low for fighting our patriots for pay. I never thought that history would repeat itself but with this administration of ours in the name of the American people doing the same in Iraq with Blackwater. Now they have gone one up by paying opposing factions not to fight and facing an uneasy "truce". This fiasco in Iraq gets "curiouser and curiouser" by the minute. The invasion preceded by "shock and awe" was terror instigated by Bush and Cheney for fun and profit, but to conduct a "war" without planning, strategy, tactics, logistics and no exit strategy and a full knowledge of the religious fundamentalism in Iraq which will always trump common sense and rational thought is an example of the total malfeasance and misfeasance of the Bush administration.

I just read in usaToday that the white house destroyed the hard drives in it's old computers, said they were recycled. I wonder how many e-mail messages were on those hard drives that pertained to the Iraq war and what was to be done? We might never know what was said and by whom. Also, I can't believe that the white house was using old programs for it's e-mails. Everthing possible was done to prevent Bush and Cheney and who knows who else from being brought to trial for war crimes. We are going to be kept in the dark for a long time. Congress and the senate will do nothing. Many of them are probably involved and don't want it to come out.

Everyone at Huffpo knew this was coming, why isn't the MSM telling America about our payments to the Sunni armies and why the supposed surge is credited with things it had nothing to do with. This is the Bush administration trying to hold all this together so they can scurry out before the zhit hits the fan.George Bush and Dick Cheney have sucessfully screwed up our nation so bad and still are claiming to be right about everything.Impeachment should have happened long ago so we could sort some of this out and bring our country back in line with what Americans want America to be.There are terrible regimes throughout the world, even here, but we should concentrate on removing our evil regime before we go elsewhere .We are sacrificing our children in Iraq, and Iran is next on the list, all so wealthy people can get tax breaks and corporate scum like Halliburton can rob the U.S. Treasury. We should be demanding to see what kind of money our leaders have made off this warmonger approach to diplomacy. We have been there five years,we train 18 and 19 year old Americans in weeks to enter a war zone. Those could all be Iraqi kids instead of American kids dying to protect their homeland, where is their sense of responsibility?I don't hear any patriotic drumbeat coming from Iraq, just the scurrying of Iraqi rats trying to steal their national treasure while their citizenry is being slaughtered in the name of religion..

Militias warn US of strike over payments
March 22 2008
THE success of the US "surge" strategy in Iraq may be under threat as Sunni militias employed by the US to fight al-Qaeda are warning of a national strike because they are not being paid regularly.

Leaders of the 80,000-strong Sahwa councils have said they will stop fighting unless payment of their fighters' $US10 ($11.10) a day wage is resumed.

The fighters are accusing the US military of using them to clear al-Qaeda militants then abandoning them. A survey by GuardianFilms reveals that out of 49 Sahwa councils four with more than 1400 men have quit, 38 are threatening to go on strike and two already have.

Improved security in Iraq in recent months has been attributed to a combination of the surge, the truce observed by Moqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi army, and the councils, which are drawn from Sunni Arabs and probably the most significant factor, say most analysts.

But Sahwa leaders are angry the Americans have not compensated them for their work.
