Sean Hannity Confronted Over His Relationship With Neo-Nazi Hal Turner

stumble digg reddit del.ico.us news trust

The folks over at NewsHounds have been watching their Fox News Channel quarry dither over Senator Barack Obama's associations with pastor Jeremiah Wright, and noted Fox's own Sean Hannity getting himself tripped up in the guilt-by-association tango. Seems that one of Hannity's former close chums is a neo-Nazi named Hal Turner who used to be a radio host, is apparently the top man in Bergen, NJ white-supremacist circles, and probably spends a lot of his time in his basement with Star Wars action figures acting out Holocaust-denier versions of The Return of the Jedi. In short, just the sort of person with whom you'd imagine Sean Hannity spends a lot of formational time with.

Anyway, a few days ago, Hannity brought Malik Shabazz of the New Black Panther Party on the show. Shabazz and his organization had previously chosen to endorse Barack Obama, who subsequently rejected the endorsement. It was up to Hannity to make some hay out of this, but the tables got turned very quickly. From NewsHounds:

Hannity added, "What I don't think you're understanding here, Malik, is that when you hear the minister of him for 20 years, when you hear the associations with Louis Farrakhan, one of the biggest racists and anti-Semites in the country, what you're not understanding is, America hears extremism at its worst."

Shabazz responded, "Let me ask you this. Are you to be judged by your promotion and association with Hal Turner?"

Hannity waved his arm around. "I don't know anybody named - this is nonsense. I don't..." Then Hannity changed his tune. "Sir, sir... That was a man that was banned from my radio show ten years ago, that ran a Senate campaign in New Jersey."

Then, as Shabazz refused to stop talking or back down, Hannity, in a tacit admission, said, "I'm not running for president."

"A neo Nazi, you backed his career," Shabazz said.

Hannity answered, "That is an absolute, positive, lie and you've been reading the wrong websites..., my friend. Good try."

Well, there's plenty of evidence to the contrary (Max Blumenthal's piece in Nation is good for a start), but it hardly matters, because don't you know, days later, Turner himself was doing his pal a total solid by coming out and stating, "Oh, yeah! We're best of buds!"

I was quite disappointed when Sean Hannity at first tried to say he didn't know me and then went on to say that I ran some senate campaign in New Jersey. In fact, Sean Hannity does know me and we were quite friendly a number of years ago.

When Hannity took over Bob Grant's spot on 77 WABC in New York City, I was a well-known, regular and welcome caller to his show. Through those calls, Sean and I got to know each other a bit and at some point, I can't remember exactly when, Sean gave me the secret "Guest call-in number" at WABC so that my calls could always get on the air.

I mean, Hannity gave Turner his Super Secret Little Anti-Semite Annie Decoder Ring so he could call him up whenever he wanted to! If the two men had been younger - and mentally eligible for a high school education - they surely would have gone to prom together!

Anyway, Turner and Hannity have a nice, long, intimate, chummy history, and Turner offers the essential blow-by-blow. "I can tell you from my firsthand, personal experience that Sean Hannity does, in fact, agree with many of my political and social views. I can also tell you that Sean Hannity disagrees with some of my political and social views. I won't go subject-by-subject to say which he agrees with and which he disagrees with. You can figure that out easy enough on your own!" Can we? What if we're not enthusiastic fans of the thought processes of nimrods, though?

Naturally, Turner has got a blustery warning for us all: "Another big difference is that I am perfectly willing to use force and violence against my enemies while Sean Hannity and others are not. Those using me as a prop to attack Sean Hannity would do well to remember this fact. Rest assured I will remember them when the opportunity presents itself; especially as it pertains to that douche bag sodomite Max Blumenthal for the falsehoods and total trash he wrote about me in 'The Nation' magazine."

Update: Newhounds has updated its Hannity/Turner post, pointing out a comment signed by Phil Boyce, Program Director of WABC, Hannity's radio station, disputing many of the facts, especially the dates, in Turner's account (Boyce's comment has been posted here as well. See first comment below). Newshounds responded to Boyce's criticisms, saying: "the real issue is what was Turner allowed to say on the air, how often and what was Hannity's reaction? We have an article in a national magazine plus one of the parties involved who say that Hannity was a welcoming, friendly and encouraging host for Turner's views for a good while. Neither Boyce nor Hannity has specifically denied that."

Hannity is the Mike Savage of the east coast. He was known from his Radio days to be at the extreme
edge of the Neo Nazi thinking. Nothing has change even when his TV co-host Alan tries to balance his
views. If it was not for Alan his Show will be an expansion of Bill'Os show.

AS MUCH as I despise FIX FOX news, it really does not matter much whether one of their "agents"
for propoganda has friends or pets that once knew Neo Nazi's--one is free to be a neo-nazi if one wishes in this country so long as you don't fire old Hitler V-2's at New York, or start beating up your
Jewish rye=bread merchant.
This is America, and even FOX gets to say and associate as they please. Without them we become
worse than Fascist--we become what the Queen of Parliaments, England, became under Cromwell--
a Religious Dictatorship. The English had enough after 10 years, and dispossed of Ollie C.--but we still
have the Protestant Righteous Right--and of course a non-practicing neo-Christian like Dick Cheney.
Let them be on stage so we can all see what they are---and then decide.
If it turns out to be George III (McCain, not 1776) that's the price we paid when we got rid of the first
George III--J.Gorman

In Europe they have laws against this kind of speech for a reason. The Holocaust happened in Europe. Jews were send in cattle cars to Germany from across Europe to be exterminated. They have, by these laws, cut the legs out from under the fascists. These same laws apply to Moslem extremist speech too. We have yet to figure out how to keep the fundamentalists and fascists from running our government and destroying our Constitution. We may have failed because of our perhaps too strict adherence to the 1st amendment. I think that the US has until recently been able to live with this because there are so many immigrants. Now however, that there is a call to get rid of "illegals" which resonates so strongly on the right, that inherent safety valve of citizen respect for other groups appears to be gone. Obama hit the nail on the head when he asked us to rethink race in America. I think it's time to rethink our stand on free speech too, but then, at this point in time there are too many foxes in place to ensure that double speak will be permitted to foment hate between groups of humanity.

Jason Linkins, why is it that you felt the need to throw a dash of homophobia in by trying to muddy Turner and Hannity with that prom joke? Sure, it'll almost certainly be offensive to red meat guys like that, but did it occur to you that casting aspersions by insinuating they're gay might be a really offensive statement on it's own? Talk about politics as usual: Hey look that nazi's a fag! Ha ha! How very...progressive of you, Mr. Linkins.

Wow, Sean Hannity is as bad as Barack Obama. Except, maybe he at least has the decency to realize there's actually something wrong. Sean could use some audacity.

The soul of the democratic party is officially dead.

I grew up with scum like this. You can smell them a mile away. Hannity makes people like O'Reilly and Limbaugh seem reasonable by comparison. I can't think of anyone more malignant on the airwaves.

I was recently adding material to the article at Wikipedia on Hannity http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Hannity (it's currently locked right now by a Wikipedia admin who is a Hannity fan, so no one can edit it right now).

I told one of Hannity's fans, who was trying to bowdlerize the article, that Hannity was a demagogue, to which he disagreed. I then asked him, "If Hannity cannot be considered a demagogue in American politics, then who can?"

Silence.

HANNITY IS WHAT HE IS. A NEO NAZI WITH NEO NAZI FRIENDS. I'VE NEVER HEARD A NEWS STATION SAY THIS IS THE STOP OBAMA STATION. WHAT IN THE HELL IS THAT. FOX NEWS IS OVER THE TOP. HANNITY LEFT A POST ON HIS WEB SIGHT THAT SAID NOW THAT WE KNOW WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT OBAMA HE WILL NEVER BE ELECTED AND WILL ASSUREDLY BE KILLED AND HE LEFT IT UP FOR OVER 24 HRS. HIS STUPITY KNOWS NO BOUNDS.

First of all, I am sure that Sean Hannity did not say that Obama would "assuredly be killed" and secondly, you write "web sight" and "stupity" and accuse Hannity of being stupid....?

Sean Hannitty is a talk show host. Obama is running for president.

Obama associates with the racist/hater Rev. Wright, indicted Tony Rezko, lefty Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground, and racist/antisemitic Louis Farrakhan, to name a few.

Guilt by association, Mr. Carr?

Shall we review your vaunted "party of family values:"

http://www.armchairsubversive.org

Given the fact that we have over seventy (70) indicted and/or convicted *pedophiles* within GOP ranks, can one conclude using your logic that *any* member of the GOP holding an elected office -including the current President- is therefore guilty of associating with a convicted sex offender against children? How about guilty of *enabling* that deviant behavior?

If you find Senator Obama's alleged acquaintances to be dubious, perhaps we can review just a few of those acquaintances of the Bush and Cheney families - and those of Senator "Hundred Years War" McCain, of dubious pedigree starting with:

*Charles Keating

*Jack Abramhoff

*The Saudi royal family

*Saddam Hussein

*The bin Laden family

Shall we go on?

Wright is not a racist. You should try watching one of his sermons. You might understand why he has the biggest church in Chicago. One of the best preachers I've ever seen. I've seen white preachers and people of all backgrounds at the church.
He's given all money tied to Rezko back to charity.
He rejected and denounced Farrakhan. Never had ties with him to begin with.

Sean Hannity is a leader among the Republican faithful. He is held to a higher standard.

The point IS... he has no right to judge the situation or shape someone else's views because he is RACIST!

Hannity seems to have his pants around his ankles, looks normal on him.Sean Hannity isn't running for president but he has the mic which he uses as a powerful weapon to spew hatred. We all see what he is under that holier than thou attitude, just another white racist supremist preaching to his flock of bigots. What a waste of oxygen.

Hannity touts "freedom and responsibility", which are of course fine concepts in themselves.

In Canada, he would have been removed a long time ago from the airwaves...for hate speech.

Really.

Hannity uses his freedom irresponsibly, plain and simple. People who do that really ought not have the freedom.

MPCarr,
Poeple like you wouldn't vote for Obama no matter what he did or accomplished, so your opinion is moot.

Thats beside the point ,the fact is Sean Hannity is a radio station host to a large audience and can influence some people. Keeping company with Hal Turner,a man that encouraged his listeners to go out and shoot jews ,bomb synagogues ,a man who called on his listeners to go infront of all the Mexican consulates and shoot everyone entering or leaving, a man who encouraged people to go out and assault anyone thats African American. That to me is shameful. let me add this I honestly think these so-called conservative radio talk show host is using my low income white brothers and sisters ,I think they dont give a rats behind about my working class white brothers and sisters, many of whom dont have health insurance , most of whom will never see their kids go to college, will see their jobs shipped overseas. These talk show people serves to distract from the real issues. They bring up issues such as not wearing a flag pin, dedicating entire shows on topics like these.

Neo-Nazis have been leafleting parking lots falsely accusing Obama of being unpatriotic, a Muslim, and terrorist stooge. They"re trying to spread an updated version of Charles Manson's paranoid vision of a "Helter Skelter" race war. For months they"ve been blanketing the internet with their false accusations since they fear an Obama presidency will spoil their plans. Sadly, Clinton, McCain, some supporters and/or others have opportunistically fanned these flames of hate. And the media has stayed silent about its source, refusing to denounce and reject those spreading it, including hosts and commentators on Disney and Murdoch-Fox owned stations and publications. This further shows how people like Hannity and Turner have formed partnerships to spread this hate and are being protected by the media.

When a white person lies it called misspeaking ...when a black person misspeaks it called lying. Two white Nazi sympathizers can get their own TV shows, but a qualified black man running for president is held responsible, and criticized for out of context remarks his black paster says. What's wrong with this picture?

It always amazes me how guys like this are so prominent in the media. Well, wait a minute...I guess for dramatic effect. We all know that reporting straight news is boring. LEAVE THE DRAMA TO MINDLESS SO-CALLED "REALITY" SHOWS and let's make news intellectual. There are still people in this country who like intellectual things to talk about and watch on TV.

I'm not sure who should be more chagrined about this, Sean Hannity or Hal Turner. For any sane rational human being, being associated being linked to either one would be cause for self banishment from civilized society. I've always thought that Fox News was proof that the Third Reich was far more advanced at cloning than we ever imagined. Himmler and Goebel are alive and well and are news editors at Faux News.

OK, stop insulting Neo-Nazis. Hannity is a Bushnik not a National Socialist. I am not defending Hitler, but he did write a book telling the world what he would do as leader of Germany, he did it and failed. Bush can hardly speak but told the world "Mission Accomplished", he also failed. That is the only likeness between Bushniks and Neo-Nazis besides being Loons (that's an O'Reilly term).
