Much has been made of the fact that Katie Couric has yet to host a presidential debate, making her the only major anchor yet to see the big stage during this extended primary season. CBS has reportedly been trying to schedule a debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and now new details from the New York Post confirm that they are "aggressively pursuing" an opportunity:

CBS officials say they're "aggressively pursuing" a Democratic primary debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

The debate, to be hosted by Katie Couric, would take place in North Carolina, the next big contest following the Pennsylvania primary.

It's expected that the debate, if nailed down, would take place sometime between April 22 and the May 6 North Carolina primary.

This is a HUGELY bad idea for Obama. They've already had a record number of debates. What will be the point other than to give Hillary another opportunity to take a shot at him. I've run the Slate Delegate Counter and giving her victories in ALL the remaining states and FL and MI, he still wins. Why let her keep trying to knock you down? It doesn't make sense.

Another debate? Why? This primary is over. Hillary can't win unless there's some kind of trickery at the convention. What are they going to talk about aways? How much Hillary loves McCain over Obama?

WHAT GOOD ANOTHER DEBATE ? NONE HAVE TRULY ADDRESSED ISSUES, each just hoping the OTHER makes a gaffe and that they themselves do NOT...THESE ARE NOW QUITE BORING, QUITE REPETITVE and OF LITTLE TO ZIP VALUE...but guess the media outlets needs something or other to fill airtime and print pages with and its cheaper than funding a drama or sitcom series for the season but his has gotten SOoooooooooooooooo BORING as even those that do NOT or have not been in one of the previous priary states, WE CAN NOW RECITE THEIR STUMP SPEECHES which are changed to but reflect the different state/region !!!
ENOUGH...this has been like A FOREVER AND FAR TOO MANY DAYS PRIMARY..started in earnest just after 2004 and NON STOP SINCE...GIVE US A BREAK PUH-LEEZE and helps to explain why something like AI or Dancing with whoever gets larger audience watch/vote casts/etc....ANYTHING for diversion as all way too tired of the SAME -O'ness of this showboating !!!

We know that Obama has agreed to this. Why not Hillary?

Because Katie Couric will make mincemeat of Hillary!

It's so strange to find that we North Carolinians are actually going to be noticed in the primaries for a change. Ours is so late that usually it feels like the convention is already over before we ever go to the polls, but not this year.

Why, goodness gracious, we already were honored with a visit from Barack Obama, who came to address an audience in Fayetteville. His team apparently felt Fayetteville to be way too ghetto for their candidate so he stayed 45 minutes away in the very affluent and upscale village of Pinehurst instead, where he probably found himself to be one of the few Democrats within the confines of that wealthy enclave.

I'm from Fayetteville, and as you say, Pinehurst is more affluent--maybe he had to meet with donors. And that's not a bad thing.

If nothing else, at least this campaign season has shown what a joke most of the media is. Couric hosting a presidential debate just may be the final nail.

As long as it happens on a Friday.

Where is Walter Cronkite when we need him?! Having this airhead host a debate for CBS will be like having a cashier from Walmart as host and moderator.

If they must debate again, I hope its in Charlotte. I don't want gridlock where I'm at.

Please please, whoever is making these decisions, do not allow "Katie" to host a dem debate.
I would have to spend a lot of time keeping my hand on the mute button. I'd rather have paris hilton host the debate.

"Katie" is a joke. She is without a doubt the least credible, least competent TV newsreader in modern history. She has no legitimate journalistic credentials, is incredibly biased in favor of the GOP, has absolutely no "gravitas" and, as if that were not enough, demonstrates little to no interest or familiarity in the accuracy or relevant details of the stories she reads on the air. If she were allowed to host or in any way be involved in any televised debate of Democratic candidates, it would render the event totally irrelevant. I can hear her asking the questions now.....
" Senators Clinton and Obama, can you please explain, one at a time, which one of you hates America more, and why?"
