The most senior US general in Iraq has said he has evidence that Iran was behind Sunday's bombardment of Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone.

Gen David Petraeus told the BBC he thought Tehran had trained, equipped and funded insurgents who fired the barrage of mortars and rockets.

General,
How long will it be until the pre-emptive strike against Iran?
Will you strike all 8 known or assumed strikes at once or
target a few at a time?
Have you considered how far reaching this new war will
be?
Will we be told before, or after it happens?

Iran is also the chief cause of global warming, income taxes and Hitler.

Yep, there has been a lot of noise coming out of the Bush administration lately, they removed the Admiral, they are stiring things up in Southern Iraq.

There gearing up for action.

I like that one, its Bushes fault that there is fighting in Basura. I think his storm troopers were getting bored so lets stir up the populace. I think there is very little noise coming out of this administration, any proper administration would be lobbing cruise missiles at Assads palace by now. Petraeus is a military commander; he does not talk with heads of state in Iran or anywhere else. I am sure Weesly Clark would have tried though.

What is the deal with single paragraphs in the comments? If you hit Return (CR) for a new paragraph all lines after that point will be lost.

Then talk to the Iranians. Or leave. If you attack Iran the world will abandon any last shred of patience in the idootic neocon agenda, whioch led to this God-awful quagmire. Even the Saudi king thought Cheney's "ideas" on Iran were out to lunch. So, with all due respect to the soldiers on the ground, frack you David Petraeus.

I am doubtfull. When it came to the explosively formed projectiles you could make a case that those required specialized manufacturing and training. But a Mortar? Only an AK47 is a more generic, commonplace, and idiotproof weapon. So they are sitting there and saying 'oh yeah, those are Iranian mortars!'

General Petraeus is performing the same service for George W. Bush (at least figuratively) that Monica Lewinsky performed for Bill Clinton.

Expect an US attack on Iran within the next few weeks as part of Bush's strategy to get McCain into the White House. Once Bush attacks Iran, all hell will break loose in the Middle East and Bush is counting on this to help Hillary in the Pennsylvania primary. Their only hope for keeping the White House in Republican hands is to tip the Democratic nomination to Hillary.

Not too soon. I think early to mid October. Any earlier and the deceptions that will be used might unravel and cost McCain the election. It is a fine line that Bush and Cheney are walking, but I am sure their determination and persistence will see them through.

There are military exercises planned in Israel for
April 6. Petraeus and Crocker go before Congress
on April 8-9. Ships with plenty of missiles are ready
to go. Bet it's late Spring.

Maybe. This could be just another example of us blaming whatever happens over there on the bad guy of the week, which is usually Iran or Syria.

Bush and Cheney want to attack Iran before the U.S. November election. Since both McCain and Hillary support nuking Iran, that should guarantee that one of the corporate-sponsored candidates will win. Let's watch what the candidates say when it happens. Attacking Iran is a sure way to prevent any president from withdrawing troops from Iraq. And after all, when you think about it, the Saudi Royal family will be overthrown eventually and all move to Beverly Hills, and then we'll probably send our military in there to steal their oil. No more wars for oil. All the money we are spending on oil corporation wars is money we should be spending developing alternative energy systems. The children and grandchildren will curse the Americans who led this country to start these wars.

We're too close to the election for there to be any chance of Congress giving the President the authority to conduct a new war.

(a) Bush already thinks he has the authority. (b) He is the Commander in Chief and if he orders a strike there will be a strike. (c) The Gulf of Tonkin resolution took five days from the "attack" (another fraud") by the North Vietnamese patrol boats to the passage of the resolution. Never underestimate Congress' capacity for cowardice and cupidity.

They will state, not argue, that they have been given the authority already. Not sure what bill it was but if it is for our safety he can attack preemptively anyone he sees fit. This will happen right around election time or perhaps just before the swearing in and with martial law we will have no new president. You can almost hear the war drums.

We have no choice but to bomb Iran back to the Stone Age (or at least Bronze) - I'm on the phone right now with my stockbroker to prepare for this ominous fight.

Better stock up on water, batteries, canned food, paper
products. And lots of duct tape and plastic. Better yet,
just head for the nearest cave until the rads show below
1 per hour. Could be a few months.

Question is why should we believe you? Many claims have been made about Iraq, and Iran, and all of it was false. Now because you have some evidence that is no doubt classified and only Bush loyalists can see it , we are to believe you? Ha that is pretty funny, I'm not buying, you might want to tell GW that he needs a new military fall guy no one believes you anymore.

Attention General Petraeus - You didn't have enough troops to do the "surge" properly - so all you did was rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic - and YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ARMY TO GO TO WAR WITH IRAN.

So what. Reagan knew where to attack the Hezbolla when he found out they were responsible for the 243 dead Marines in Beirut. But when the bombers were in flight, his mentor, Casper Weinburger aborted the flight without Reagans knowledge, and said their " friends " ( the oily Arabs ) would not be happy with us if we harmed their terrorist buddies, who they were also funding. Bush won't do anything to block the constant incursions into Iraq because he needs the insurgents ( Iraqis ) and

Look guys, when a country -other than Israel- insists on naming its military elite "The Jerusalem (Quds or Qods) Force", you have to wonder. Maybe the Israelis are right. Maybe it doesn't matter that Israel has 400 nukes, hundreds of ballistic missiles and three nuclear-armed subs patrolling off the coast of Iran. Maybe it doesn't matter that the Iranians are armed with sling shots and bows and arrows. They could in principle be working on developing their own nukes. We know they had at least one laptop that is now in our possession. Kyle, Lieberman and some 70-odd other US Senators think so.
