Clinton Undecided on April 19 Debate

ANN SANNER | March 24, 2008 02:36 PM EST | AP

WASHINGTON — Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, once so eager to debate she ran two ads questioning why her rival wouldn't, has yet to say whether she'll debate Sen. Barack Obama in North Carolina next month.

Both presidential candidates plan to participate in an ABC News debate on April 16 in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania holds it primary days later, on April 22. Obama also has agreed to a debate April 19 hosted by CBS in North Carolina. North Carolina holds its primary May 6.

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said Monday that the campaign has not made a decision about the CBS debate and is still working through the details.

"I am quite confident that there will be additional debates and that we will work with networks and the Obama campaign to figure out the appropriate location and venue and media outlet," Wolfson told reporters on a conference call.

Clinton ran a statewide television ad in Wisconsin prior to its Feb. 19 primary challenging Obama to debate there as she struggled to regain momentum after his string of victories in February.

The Clinton ad said, "Barack Obama still won't agree to debate in Wisconsin. ... Why won't Barack Obama debate these differences? Wisconsin deserves better."

The contenders have debated 20 times during the presidential campaign. Their last meetings were in Texas on Feb. 21 and Ohio on Feb. 26 ahead of those states' primaries on March 4. Clinton won both contests.

Hillary: Please regale me again with words you stole from someone else, that's fun.

Shre won't debate him on the 19th. Afraid of a 1-2 punch so close to PA primary.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:35 PM on 03/25/2008

That's good to hear, no need to flick over to another channel.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:12 PM on 03/25/2008

The date seems way too early, over two weeks before the primary. Is that why she has not committed yet?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:41 PM on 03/25/2008

The NC debate will be after she releases her taxes, eh?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:21 AM on 03/25/2008

Hillary doesn't realize that Greenspan started the sub prime and easy money fiasco in GW year one. The Hillary camp calls this experience.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:56 AM on 03/25/2008

Hillary is a hypocrite. She would rather John McCain win in November than Obama. She's in it for herself not for the Democratic Party.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:47 AM on 03/25/2008

And you know this because a media pundit told you so?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:46 PM on 03/25/2008

Because its OBVIOUS.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:05 PM on 03/25/2008

why is Hilary Clinton still in this race. It's obvious she can't win the nomination. Will the leaders in the Democratic Party summon the courage to tell her and her hatchet hubby to concede defeat and support Obama.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:29 AM on 03/25/2008

She's still in the race because she's still IN the race. Obama hasn't won, and it's inaccurate to say she can't win the nomination.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:48 PM on 03/25/2008

I wouldn't mind a debate. It would be an opportunity for Obama to respectfully ask her to coach him on her most excellent sniper-avoidance techniques.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:20 AM on 03/25/2008

hehehe....

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:37 PM on 03/25/2008

Duck! Quack quack!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:44 AM on 03/25/2008

This is the first time that I am in agreement with Sen. Clinton. No more debates.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:10 AM on 03/25/2008

But she wanted one debate per week right before Wisconsin. Why did she change her mind?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:04 AM on 03/25/2008

Hillary Clinton can not win the Democratic nomination for president. The numbers tell the story. Even with robust victories in Pennsylvania, Indiana, West Virginia and Kentucky, Hillary will trail Obama in popular votes and pledged delegates as they enter the convention hall in Denver. Any other candidate would have been shamed into dropping out long ago. But these are the Clintons and they have no shame. So why does Hillary persist? Because she hasn't abandoned her aspiration for the White House. Not in 2008, but for 2012. Here's the perverse logic at work. In order to realize her vaulting ambition, Hillary must mortally wound Obama as candidate in the fall race against John McCain so that she can run against McCain in 2012: http://www.counterpunch.org/stclair03242008.html

Read David Brooks in today's (3-25-08) New York Times. He refers to HRC, on this issue of her inability to drop out, as her "audacity of hopelessness." Great term!

Here's the truth to Hillary's name (sure hope this time Huff allows the link to go through)

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:50 AM on 03/25/2008

Hillary sure does have problems with both truth and commitment....anyone remember her 'story' on why her mother named her Hillary - with 2 "L"s???

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:48 AM on 03/25/2008

Mike,

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:17 AM on 03/25/2008

Why, oh why do the Obama fans idolize him? I don't get it. He is just another politician and it's becoming more and more apparent as every day passes. His followers are a bunch of freaks and coke heads. Wake Up Obama Fans: He is FLAWED and he is NOT GOD. As a loyal Dem I will absolutely NOT vote for him if he steals the nomination. Either I will vote for McCain or sit it out. Why? Why? Why? Because him and his people are trying to tear down Hillary, just like the Republicans. They are NO different! Wake up you FREAKS, Obama cannot win and you all will wake up with the worst hang over in November! One more thing, it's because of freaks like you that the Hillary supporters will not vote for him in November, so I hope you all can look at yourselves in the mirror the day after Election Day!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:24 AM on 03/25/2008

To MikeinDC - I'm sure glad you profess to be a Clinton supporter - Barack Obama doesn't need your poison. If you're not satisfied when Barack gets elected president, you have options to leave. You also have a serious anger problem - perhaps you should seek counseling to find out what's behind it all. I can't understand your last sentence - are you saying that Barack will win? Iif he does, yes, we can all look in the mirror and grin from ear to ear knowing that the right candidate got in.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:23 PM on 03/25/2008

so I guess hillary is just another politician, too?!?! you should place hillary in front of a mirror before you start calling others "flawed" because I think hillary is the most flawed of all. Who said or called obama "GOD"? Did I miss an astounding news story about that? You sound like a 2 year old who's pouting because you can't have your way; "I will vote for McCain or sit it out". WAAAAAAAAHHH. Even more evidence of your 2 year old mentality is your resorting to name calling; "freaks like you". Go ahead, take your hillary and GO HOME!!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:20 PM on 03/25/2008

My guess is that Mike is actually a Republican operative, here to sew animosity in the Democratic ranks.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:05 AM on 03/25/2008

Mikeindc,

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:27 AM on 03/25/2008

You've been flagged as being abusive, as well as ignorant, out of touch with reality and, just for good measure, being a putz. Bye bye!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:46 AM on 03/25/2008

This is just hysterical ranting. There's no substance to anything you're saying here. Do you really expect to persuade people of anything, or is it just an emotional release for you?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:39 AM on 03/25/2008

typical white person

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:07 AM on 03/25/2008

Do you think it it typical for a white person to lie, TX?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:11 AM on 03/25/2008

AND typical liar.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:10 AM on 03/25/2008

McCains 11pts. up since the kichen sink was thrown (and now occassionally tossed). Hillary's bursting to beyond momentum, I mean ego, is still crunched at only 5% chance of winning. And yet this out of control fatally flawed Clinton machine continues demonstrating it's wrath of destruction with no end in sight. If this doesn't prove that Obama has the credibility and stamina as a leader what will? It certainly does show the sort of crash and burn determination of Hillary. Taking the high road will show character and sacrifice for something higher than the obvious.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:56 AM on 03/25/2008

And McCain has gone up because of Hillary or just because Obama is finally being somewhat vetted? What makes you think Clinton supporters are the only ones who want to beat Obama? Have you heard of Republicans? You people are so politically naive. Why are you so afraid of competition?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:47 PM on 03/25/2008

Clinton was for releasing Fazio's tax returns during her Senate race; Obama has, now she stalls the release of her own. Clinton was for debates; now she's not sure. Clinton was for the war; now she's against it. Clinton was for transparency;now she's not pushing for release of Bill's library contributors. Clinton was for releasing info on Obama's Senate earmarks; he has, now she won't release info on her earmarks. Clinton was for the DNC rules on Michigain and Florida; now she's against them. Clinton said she was under sniper fire in Bosnia; now she misspoke. I think we get the message and we've had enough.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:54 AM on 03/25/2008

McHenry You hit on right on the head. Hillary is so hypocrtical it aint funny. Its also noted she has padded her resume. You have pointed out all her flip flops. How come no one has pointed this out. She is a fruad. I dont hate the woman but she is not real or authentic. Thankfully someone caught her in her lies. Stop it hillary supporters. Blame the candidate for not being candid.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:18 AM on 03/25/2008

This is in response to Pat Buchanan's spiel on Barack:

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:48 AM on 03/25/2008

This article is the paper equivalent of a child saying "I know I am, but what are you?"

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:20 AM on 03/25/2008

Cut off comments...what is with this system?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:50 AM on 03/25/2008

OMG what audacity, she didn't respond instantly to a request for a debate...maybe she has to oh, check a calender and possibly reschedule other events? This is stupid, all you Hilary haters will say anything, bring up all the old lies from the repug media machine fox as if it were the word of god. Look at the facts for once and use your brain for 2 seconds please! The RNC is PRAYING Obama gets the nomination. Despite Rush's stupidity, which has him on the outs with the RNC. Fox news is going pro Obama. The states he wins are Repug strongholds. They are voting for him now because they KNOW they can destroy him. He may even help so he can go work for his cousin and make big money at Haliburton. It wouldn't surprise me considering his actual record. Worked for Rezko's puppet non profits steering them to make deals to profit Rezko, them pays his employee to mow Rezko's lawn...

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:45 AM on 03/25/2008

Yeah POdVet... We're really really sneaky! We even put stuff in her herbal tea to make her lie constantly and embarrassingly. Neat trick, huh?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:21 AM on 03/25/2008

RNC still wants Clinton. They will never allow another Clinton in the White House.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:44 AM on 03/25/2008

It's going to be much easier for them to destroy Clinton's credibility than Obama's "lack of experience". And frankly, given that many republicans are not very happy with the current government, I believe some of you are just replaying that hackneyed idea that the Rep are only waiting for them. Whoever wins, the republicans will try to get their butt. That's just the way it always was and still is. If you back off the republican challenge, you are not fit to run the presidential office.
