A recession may be looming, but a group of investors thinks Americans are ready to pony up $35 for a movie ticket.

Village Roadshow Ltd., Act III, Lambert Entertainment and the Retirement Systems of Alabama pension fund have partnered to bring the luxury cinema circuit Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas to the U.S.

Noooooooooo! What can Alabama's boneheaded governor Riley be thinking? This is a LOSER.

What's going to keep the audience members from loudly talking during the movie. And talking to the screen. And talking on their cell phones.

I haven't gone to a movie theater in three years because of the loud audience and I don't see how $35 a ticket will stop that.

wow, both utterly laughable and disgusting at the same time. first of all, i guess the rich can be spared having to watch a movie w/ the unwashed. but second, who in their right minds would pay 35 bucks for the crap that hollywood puts out? 8 bucks is way too much for the latest drivel oozing out of a demeaned and debased "entertainment" industry. and by the way, if i want to slink back in a comfy chair and eat "made to order food," i'll throw in a dvd, order a pizza, and watch w/ my pants off, not w/ 40 other idiots who've put down ridiculous bucks to watch the latest "cinderella goes shopping in ny" fluff.

You KNOW that someone will pay, someone always pays. That is why a vast majority of this country are in debt up to their eyeballs.

Quickly followed my massively illegal downloads of movies.

$35 bucks? LOL who ever pays that is a fucking idiot.

Why should I have to go to their theatre when I have my own?

If you want service like this go to Studio Movie Grill - A ticket costs $6 and then whatever bill you run up when you order the food and drinks. The seating is also very comfortable.

Good luck with that. My wife and I have already cut down on the number of times we go to see a movie. We only watch ones that have gotten high user ratings. But if the theater wants to charge$35 for a movie ticket then they can watch the movie themselves because I won't be one of the suckers paying for it.

I honestly cannot remember when I last went to a movie, must have been like 30 years ago.
I don't miss it. I loved European Movie Theaters, they were glamorous and it was some night out.
But the US could not touch it, I prefer the TV and it has all the movies on I have never seen.
I am catching up.

We hit the cinema about every other week and pay senior prices for matinees, but that only costs us $6 a ticket. I see families of 5 or more and wonder how they can afford the $9-10 tickets along with sodas and popcorn. SOMEBODY has a good job, or maybe they're putting in on the credit card.

I agree with the posters who say these guys are dreaming. Nobody I know would go.

I predict that this is not going to work out well for that "group of investors".
I wonder if they've heard about Bush's recession.
Too bad for those Alabama retirees.

Maybe if you'd enter the theater in New York and step out in the Bahamas after the movie.

These guys are so full of themselves...

"...we are delivering on that demand in a way never before experienced by the American consumer," said Kirk Senior, CEO of Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas."

Yeah, yeah. There are several theaters, here in LA, very much like this already. With comfortable seating, food service and bars. And they don't cost $35.00. More like $15.00 - $17.00.

I can like, get a flashlight, and make those little shadow puppet things using only my fingers, and make a 'movie' that doesn't cost much of anything...the money saved on ticket prices buys a lot of gas and beer!

Perfect, even better, I'll send you some shiny tin foil and you giggle yourself to sleep for entertainment in your drunken stupor.

Leave the movies to thinking people. Less talking, burping, and distractions for the rest of us.

Now if they can guarantee no more coughing, sneezing, seat kicking and food rummaging I'd pay for it.

(And maybe a small microphone so I can bug my date with stupid comments.)

the theaters are in trouble as it is. why not charge a hundred?

One of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard. People are already complaining about the high ticket prices at around $10 a pop, and on top of that, lame ads you have to be subjected to. I already save money by *not* buying the overpriced artery-clogging garbage. Instead, I sneak in sandwiches and water in my big ol' purse.

Good luck with that.
