President Nicolas Sarkozy's wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy impressed fashion experts with her restrained glamour Wednesday as the French presidential couple arrived in Britain for a state visit.

There was agreement that she looked demure and dignified in a high-necked grey coat, matching hat, black belt and black gloves, on the day a nude photograph from her modelling days appeared in some British newspapers.

"My first impression was that it was kind of Jackie Kennedy meets Madeline the little French schoolgirl," said Lucy Yeomans, editor of upmarket British fashion and lifestyle magazine Harper's Bazaar.

What's with the "hate"...NOTHING is worse than that wad of dusty cheese George senior had to skag around the world. Rumor has it she even doubles for George Washington during "Fore Father's day" at the local Elementary school.
Step back appreciate the beauty and move on...no emotion invested in this one.

puhleazzzze....she's too fat for audrey hepburn crown
and THAT is what is most important in this culture of ours
we can forgive her for being a homewrecking whore
but not for being fat....don't gain another pound, carla
your short ugly husband with the outrageous honker of a nose will trade you in for another upgrade of a trophy wife

When I first saw Mrs Sarkozy's picture, I, too, thought of Audrey Hepburn,

But aside from that, what business is it of ours who she "channels"? Dont we have more important things to worry about?? Do you people remember the war, the election and the economy?

FOCUS, PEOPLE, FOCUS!!

I would define the look as more Audrey Hepburn than Jackie Kennedy.

Dressing in a similar style, does not a cultured, elegant, dignified First Lady make. Our illusion of Camelot died in Dallas on November 22, 1963. Mrs. Kennedy was a class act throughout her life. Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy has yet to prove she is made of the same stuff. Having slept with various rockers, posed nude, been a singer, and broken up the French president's marriage may not show the same character. The fact that men think she's hot and would like to "do" her is meaningless.

Hey, Cheney! Vive Le France! Bet your wife doesn't look like this. Bet your wife looks like the back end of a yak!

what the hell does that have to do with anything

The French president appears to be having a world class mid-life crisis. Maybe his wife should find her own style.

She did right. She's playing the role of political wife, not sexy supermodel. She's moved on.

I'm not a fan of her husbands politics, but Carla Bruni gets a big thumbs up from me. She's a good looking woman even with her clothes on.

It would be nice if America could have such a hot-looking and classy first lady. Of course this country would never tolerate Carla Bruni in the White House because she has admitted having sex outside of marriage. Tsk tsk. What hypocritical prudes we are.

We did have a hot-looking classy first lady. Her name was Jackie Kennedy! Get it? It doesn't get more pathetic than dressing up as an historical figure to try to make up for the lack of said "class". Also, what are they trying to tell the world. That they are the 21 century what the Kennedys were in the 1960's? I find the whole photo-op very strange. Imagine if the port opened on Air Force 1 and Laura Bush suddenly appeared coiffed and costumed as Ms. Herbert Hoover.

Uh sure....not everyone is a moronic freak....or so unhappy in their marriage that they have to cheat....15 years and I have never strayed....Respect your wife.

I got you beat -- I have been married to my wife for 39 years and never cheated. My point is just that we shouldn't make a big deal out of the private sex lives of politicians and their wives. It seems that the more sex-obsessed our culture becomes, the more we expect our politicians to behave like cloistered nuns. It's ridiculous -- and hypocritical.

Wasn't she just in the media bragging about all the men she's had? She's a Jackie Ho not Jackie O.

Hey dartagnan, it didn't take to long at all to prove your point now did it? : )

Hey rob, news flash: WOMEN DO HAVE SEX! Oh, and we like it too!

Who is Carla Bruni and why should I care?

ehem...

She can't go around dressed like Jackie Kennedy like that! Only Michelle Obama is supposed to go around dressed like Jackie Kennedy! Oh well, If you're going to dress like a political icon at least Jackie had some fashion sense. I couldn't take another politician's wife dressing-up like frickin' Nancy Reagan.

She is so intruging. I really like her, even though I know nothing about her. Her Christie's photo is gorgeous.

And let's be honest, I wouldn't kick either one of them out of bed (Jackie O' Circa 1960).

It's good to be Prez...

Define "liberated". From what I've read in the European press, the French are underwhelmed by la Bruni. The Italians obviously much less so.
