"Grey's Anatomy" heartthrob Justin Chamber checked into UCLA's psych ward in January to treat his sleep disorder. And although he was recently photographed and passing in and out of consciousness at a Palm Springs bar, the married Chambers opens up to the new issue of People about the success of his treatment:

"It's an issue that I've had for a while," the Grey's Anatomy star tells PEOPLE exclusively in his first interview since the incident. "It's a biological sleep disorder. Your mind keeps racing, and your body is tired. It wants to go to sleep, but it can't."

Chambers, 37, who has five children with his wife, Keisha, 38, says in the two months prior to checking in to UCLA, he was sleeping no more than an hour a week. "I got to my wit's end," he says.

Meanwhile, Star Magazine has photos and a report of him passing in and out of consciousness in Palm Springs:

"Everyone thought Justin was drunk because he kept passing out at his table," the eyewitness tells Star. "But when I asked the bartender what they'd been serving him, she swore it was only non-alcoholic beer!"

"He was acting as if he was on drugs, like some kind of downers. His eyes were glazed over. He slurred his words and staggered when he tried to walk," the eyewitness added. "At one point, he was hunched over a table, then abruptly woke up and shouted out of the blue, 'I am a father of five kids! I am a damn good father! Leave me alone!' It was really unsettling."

"Grey's Anatomy" returns to ABC April 24th.

He was in the same hospital as Britney Spears (and same ward), an at the same time. I don't recall exactly what he reported he was in there for, but it was medical, not addictive. This story seems a bit hard to believe. With 5 children, his behavior appears dangerous. Did he drive to and from? Unfortunately, we're not done hearing about him....the truth will surface, you can bet on it.

Sleep disorders can be terribly disruptive and even painful. Not a fan, never watched your show, but as someone with sleep issues (under control thankfully), I wish you the best of luck with this, Justin.

I saw him last week. He looked just like he does in that bar photo. I hope he can knock this thing.

so I can only sleep an hour a week, and the funny thing is, when i go to a loud crowded bar, i sleep like a baby.

WHY is a man with FIVE kids going to bars? Especially when he allegedly only drinks non-alcoholic beer? If he stayed home with the wife and five kids more, he'd be plenty tired enough to sleep at night.

Janet, I would think you of all people would understand. You don't have a thing to say worth reading...yet you come on Huffpost....and post?

This article seems to be trying to claim that his assertions of a sleep disorder are at odds with the reports of him falling in and out of conciousness at a bar when in reality, it reinforces his assertions.
Chronic insomnia can cause slurred speech, shallow breathing, lapses of conciousness, hallucinations, delusional and paranoid behaviour ....

I hope he's successful in finding some relief from this condition.
