Obama-Bloomberg Ticket? McCain-Romney Ticket?

The Veepstakes are heating up, even though the Democrats have yet to choose a nominee . Speculation over an Obama-Bloomberg ticket mounted yesterday as the Mayor introduced the Senator at a speech on the economy. The same whispers are circulating around the Republican camp. The Washington Post writes "now, Romney is "hinting that he wouldn't mind joining a McCain ticket." See below for the two reports:

The New York Times
:

It was only hours after Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg finally made it clear that he was not running for president that his chief political guru, Kevin Sheekey, suggested that he would be the perfect running mate for Senator Barack Obama.

So Mr. Bloomberg's highly orchestrated introduction of Mr. Obama at a speech at the Cooper Union on Thursday quickly resuscitated speculation that the billionaire mayor might end up in the White House after all. But despite a few jokes and a stiff embrace, the men seemed nothing like two peas in the same political pod, destined to share a ticket.

The Washington Post
:

It remains to be seen whether John McCain will put ex-rival Mitt Romney's financial know-how to use by picking him as his running mate. But yesterday, McCain did the most to milk another of Romney's primary attributes -- his access to deep pockets in Rocky Mountain country.

Romney joined McCain at a fundraiser in Salt Lake City yesterday and is set to accompany him to another fundraiser in Denver this evening. It is familiar territory for Romney, whose family has roots in Utah and who lived there for several years. Romney raised $6.3 million in Utah, more than from his home state of Massachusetts and second only to his haul from California, during his bid for the GOP nomination.

A black (OK, half-black) president and a Jewish VP.

I need to lie down.

After seeing Chuck Hagel say Friday night that Obama is "the most gifted" politician he's been around, I think he would have a better shot at VP than Bloomberg.

Picking a Republican - albeit a very pro-war Republican - could be a very shrewd move...

Correction: anti-war Republican.

(It's late...)

I'm a bit amused by this premature speculation (ejaculation?) about the vice presidential candidate.
I think Obama could use a strong national security VP, who could offset McCain's claims of vast
experience in the area. I think McCain, could use a little shoring up in business and economics. I
still think that both will ultimately decide on the basis, of who they are truly comfortable with.

It's hard to imagine Bloomberg playing second fiddle to a mere millionaire.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:40 PM on 03/28/2008

I was wondering about that, also. Do you think maybe Bloomberg is really offering Obama the second spot on an Indie ticket in the event that Hillary manages to win the Dem nomination?

After Bloomberg"s treatment of peaceful protesters during the 2004 Republican convention, (Violating their civil rights.) I can't imagine giving him power on a national level. What people also seem to forget is that the Democrats lost control of Congress in 1994 by having candidates campaign on their support for gun control. Bloomberg's gun control theatrics would be a poison pill for any Democratic ticket.

An Obama/Bloomberg ticket will never happen. Obama needs the downscale, undereducated, willfully ignorant, "I'm just a workin' stiff", "wouldn't-sip-a-latte-if-you-held-a-gun-to-my-head", largely racist and white working class constituency to win the Presidency and this would be their worst conspiratorial nightmare--they would be afraid the blacks and Jews were banding together to take over and get back at them!

That is total nonsense. Bloomberg would bring to the table a tremendous ability in administrative management which is needed in all three possible candidates. Now that there has been a precedent set with the current administration -- I am suggesting that Cheney has probably been running the show and the Red Phone at 3AM is in his bedroom and not GWB's. But given all that it has been pretty obvious for some time that Bloomberg has been waiting in the wings. And it is not a bad ticket. A second choice might be Joe Biden but would'nt he make a better Secretary of State?
But I am sure along the way in the last 15 months a man of Barack Obama's ability will a have found the right person. However when it comes to McCain you have the age factor and his running mate could within hours , days or weeks of the inauguration become president with absolutely no months of primary vetting but being the choice of a seventy-two year old presidential wannabe who might have trouble getting life insurance.

Obama-Bloomberg would be a dream ticket! (and a nightmare for the 30 percenters having both a Black Man AND a Jew in the White House!).

Now THAT would be entertainment! ;-)

Shalom to all.

"J-Lo/Gyllenhaal Ticket?"

"Witherspoon/Zellwegger Ticket"?

"Jolie/Zeta Jones Ticket"?

McCain may appease the Conservatives with Christopher Cox as the VP nominee. I like the idea.

It will be the McCain-Rice ticket to pit against Obama-Clinton. I read an old article stating that Condi is the only one who would have a chance against Hillary and that was before Obama came into the picture. Condi's making headlines now talking about Obama's race speech. It's coming.

Not in that order nec., but "heywhat" reflects the sentiments of tens of MILLIONS of U.S. voters. Both of the other parties have veered into the steamy mists of ideological extremes. The Democrats remain chained to some notion of racial expiation whilst the Republicans harken to the waste and chaos of the U.S. in latter 19th Century.....!

Romney is a hand puppet for the Bush crime family. Bloomberg is a warning to Klintoon not to sabotage Obama if she wants her political base left intact in New York City and State.

Those who think the VP slot is unimportant don't realize how close

the one job is to the other with either of the party's chosen leaders.

Bloomberg and Obama? NO!

I truly believe like Maureen Dowd wrote, Obama and Clinton are stuck with it other. It's just a fight for who's man enough to take the top!

I think you can bank on McCain/Romney. Romney strenghts are McCain weaker points.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:49 PM on 03/28/2008

I still don't see it. Romney doesn't bring anything to McCain except his own money. The only big states he carried were ones the Dem's own. The 'movement' conservatives and the evangelicals never warmed up to him which is why he bombed. Huckebee would at least bring something to the table although he would drive away some independents. I think McCain should be looking toward some midwest Republicans like Voinivich or ( Tommy) Thompson.
I can't see any combination of Obama and Clinton; that well's been poisoned. Richardson would probably be the best match for Obama. Clark would add gravitas but is too identified with Hilary now. Obama/Hagel would be intriguing but I don't see it happening.

Yeah - the things McCain actually makes a little sense on are the things Romney is bat-shit crazy about and vice versa - it should make a great ticket!

McCain will never put Romney on the ticket. Like it or not, the Revival Tent Republicans are not going to vote for a Mormon which in their book is the equivalent of SATAN. Florida's Crist is a real possibility, but McCain himself has already stated that he thinks Minnesota's Pawlenty would be an ideal candidate. He would put Minnesota into play. Romney brings nothing to the party. He can't deliver Massachusetts and Utah is the most Republican state in the union.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:29 PM on 03/28/2008

I agree - during the primary McCain went so far as to say that he wasn't sure if LDS (Mormons) were Christians. No way he'll bring him in on the ticket, unless he's flat broke or truly does want a third Bush term (Romney is FAR crazier than old man McCain)...

MOREOVER, McBane champions AMNESTY for ILLEGAL ALIENS whilst Romney--rather courageously--insisted that this was a repetition of an already FAILED POLICY..... Perhaps, McBane's contributors insist on continue access to a ready supply of coolie/plantation labour.....

I don't like the Bloomberg idea. I think Obama needs to pick someone with a great deal of foriegn policy experience, as that is his biggest weaness. Also, that person should be someone, preferably, with millitary experience. That would neutralize McCain's only asset. Someone like Joe Biden, Chuck Hegel, John Murtha, Wes Clark,

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:21 PM on 03/28/2008

Oh, and Mitt Romney... Ewww.

Thanks, McCain. At my angriest, I was contemplating voting for you if Hillary stole the nomination, but Romney is pure slime. Thanks for knocking some sense back into me.

I seriously hope he picks Romney, because he is so repugnant, especially to all those Reagan Dems, with which McCain is supposedly going to rout Obama. I think Huckabee said it best when he said, and I paraphrase, "He reminds you of the guy who laid you off."

Mittens could do more to unify the Dems than Gore ever could.

It's gonna be Obama/Richardson vs McCain/Romney with a 60/40 split.

If Bloomberg wants out of New York, he can buy into Barack's cabinet.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:59 AM on 03/28/2008

I hope it's Obama/Richardson and McCain/Romney.

If McCain has Romney on the ticket, they can't talk about Rev Wright, since Romney is a part of a historically racist religion.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:04 PM on 03/28/2008

The Rev. Wright isn't about religion,

it's about unquestioning patriotism,

verses critical thinking capabilities.

and judgement. don't forget judgement. since that is what Obama's anti Hillary argument is

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:08 PM on 03/28/2008

He fought for his country. He served his community.

I didn't say its about religion, it's about racism. .

People are calling Wright a racist for a sound bite he spoke. Romney has followed a religion that has been historically racist. Wright was misquoted about racial issues, while Romney follows a religion that has practiced racism for more than 100 years, until around 30 years ago. I want to hear that discussion in a debate.

I like Bloomberg, but this seems like a bad choice. He should offer him a cabinet post, where he'll be able to better implement his expertise(the economy, stupid). Still, if he got out and stumped for the guy, it might quell all this "Obama is an anti-Semite" talk.

Vice Presidency==Warm Bucket of Spit

He needs a southern fried cracker with millitary cred, a woman or a latino for Veep.

Also, beware the PPPs.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:57 AM on 03/28/2008

Southern fried cracker w/ military cred - yes.

Woman or latino - no way. Although I think it would be wonderful, it's "too much" for you typical crossover / independent voter. Voting for a black guy is enough of a stretch for rural America. Obama is practically required to pick an older, white, more conservative, man. Don't believe me? Just watch.

Sounds like Bloomberg fits the ticket nicely.....

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:50 PM on 03/28/2008

That's why BHO's VP will be Sen, James Webb from VA. And as you said; good military cred and a southern state to boot!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:55 PM on 03/28/2008

Webb is too new. They'd have to run as Green/Green 08. I think Richardson or Napolitano maybe?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:13 PM on 03/28/2008

Webb will be best at Defense for the ticket as the key cabinet posts

will help the campaign go forward. The GOP is full of runaway pervs

and retiring thieves while the Dems have a plethora of talented and

respected folk to fill out the team. Biden/ State, Edwards/ Atty Gen,

Sebelius/Interior, Kucinich/Labor, Bloomberg/treasury(for $10 mil).

Any perceived weakness of Obama's will be easily dealt w/ by this.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:17 PM on 03/28/2008

He won't have Webb. He needs someone with more rounded experience like Richardson, maybe Wesley Clark or a woman governor, like Sebelius or Napolitano.

Regarding the Southern Veep candidate, I think you're quite right; the Democratic contender needs one. He/she needs a SWAM (Southern White Anglo Male) in order to have a chance win in Dixie.

Otherwise, the collective bigot vote, which is both racist and misogynistic, will swarm out from under the rocks of hypocrisy, and crush the Democratic ticket.

This week, the Florida legislature finally apologized for slavery. In another 140ish years, the state may apologize for the pervasive racism and misogyny endemic here. Please do not hold your breath.

We know that Romney is going to be VP. Otherwise his sons would have already signed up to serve their country in the military. Wouldn't they? Seeing as he will be VP they regretfully will have to serve their country by helping him get elected rather than in combat. Those Romney kids just can't catch a break.
