Addressing civil rights activists in Selma, Ala., a year ago, Sen. Barack Obama traced his "very existence" to the generosity of the Kennedy family, which he said paid for his Kenyan father to travel to America on a student scholarship and thus meet his Kansan mother.

The Camelot connection has become part of the mythology surrounding Obama's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. After Caroline Kennedy endorsed his candidacy in January, Newsweek commentator Jonathan Alter reported that she had been struck by the extraordinary way in which "history replays itself" and by how "two generations of two families -- separated by distance, culture and wealth -- can intersect in strange and wonderful ways."

Manipulation of the masses. Knowing he could tell a small lie and gather up the reamaining Camelot romanticists who yearn for the olden days of happiness.

Ok, here is the sad truth. Parents lie about how they met and what not. You have to understand this fact. Most people don't tell their kid, hey I met your mom at a bar and that is that. Most people make stories of how they met seem bigger than what they are. Their kids believe them. In this situation, Obama took his parent's story as fact and did not question it. OBAMA WAS NOT THERE WHEN HIS PARENTS MET AND HAS NO FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE OF THE EVENT.

In contrast, Hillary Clinton had first hand knowledge of the Bosnia situation. Chelsea had first hand knowledge of the Bosnia situation. They chose to lie. I can not tell you how insulted I was this morning when Howard Wolfson attempted to try to compare the Bosnia story to this story about Obama and attack Obama's credibility. This attempt by HW was right after the host held him to his previous defense of Hillary's lie about Bosnia. OF course, Howard now said he was not defending Hillary's lies and he and Hillary were telling the truth.

It's stories like these that just make obama look better. While trying to explain that he was wrong, they explain his uniqueness and endear him to the public. So much for being a muslum. Thanks

...except these were all events that took place before he was born, and did not directly involve him. Not to mention, airlifts may well have been conducted in secret or on an ad-hoc basis a year earlier than a formal program would have been announced or publicized.

Please put this in the context of someone else "misremembering" direct experiences a scant 12 years earlier -- you know, in the course of this extremely valuable professional experience we keep hearing about.

I do love the spin jobs that Obama supporters do when ever there is a story that paints him a negative way or catches him in a little fib. While I don't think this is a big deal, I do think he was using this story for political reasons, and now we find out it wasn't true. Obama is a scholar, who knows his history, to think he would tell this story with out fact checking doesn't add up. Like I said, not a big deal, but I would like Obama supporters JUST ONCE admit it was an error by OBama. COme on just once.. It will be ok.

Same thing.

Not overstated in any way.

Obama's father was the beneficiary of Kenyan politician Tom Mboya's initiative (through his friendship with Senator Robert Kennedy) Grant to America Studen't Airlift first arranged through the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., Foundation.

Even descendants of the beneficiaries of this initiative remain profoundly grateful to the guts and grace of the Kennedy family support which made the secret hopes of our parents and their dreams for their children possible.

Please read your own link - it proves there is absolutely no Kennedy connection to Obama's father.

Obama's father was one of the 81 Kenya students airlifted in 1959. The Kennedy Foundation's first contact with the program came on July 26, 1960. Senator Kennedy, as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had received a July 23rd telegram from Tom Mboya about a 2nd proposed airlift and decided to meet with him.

Look at BO and his claim to be against the DC establishment -- Kennedy, Kerry, Daschle, Dodd, etc.

Also, JFK voted against the Civil Rights voting act in 1956 while senator. He had be be dragged kicking and screaming into doing something about the riots in Mississippi and Alabama.

Useyourbrain, please use you brain for crying out loud! Obama is the outsider but the establishment saw that he has potential and decided to back him up. Was he is supposed to tell them NO?

If you are truely using your brain in your arguement, I am really scared for you because you make as much sense as a 5year old-- you know, there is a name for that.

You are ridiculous beyond words!!! Hilllary lied about a trip and was given a pass. "Oh is was embellished, it was a fish story..." Obama's story is as accurate as they come. Kennedy had something to do with his father coming to the U.S(THAT'S TRUE). This is closer to Hillary saying that she was named after Sir Hillary even though he wasn't known until 5years after she was born. But it was a story she was told and she did not check the facts. She was not lying but just didn't do any research.

    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:20 AM on 03/31/2008

Sorry, Zhonni, but you are wrong. The headline is misleading - Kennedy had absolutely nothing to do with Obama's father coming to the US.

Obama's father was in a 1959 airlift. In July of 1960, Kennedy learned of the program and asked that the Kennedy Foundation commit money to it. See the article above and
http://www.jfklink.com/speeches/jfk/misc60/jfk010860_africangrant.html

The article above also notes that Obama said at Selma: "There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Junior was born. So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Alabama."

Obama was born 4 years before the Selma march, so it was silly to claim a link to Selma based on the march helping get his parents together - as silly as Clinton claiming she was named for Sir Hillary.

The article says that the Obama campaign's explanation for Obama saying he had a claim on Selma based on the march helping get his parents together was that Obama really meant he had a link to the civil rights movement in general.

Barack Obama needed to appeal to the white liberal elite establishment of the democratic party and what better way to do this than to flasely link his father's departure from Kenya to John F Kennedy rather than to Jackie Robinson, Harry Belafonte, Sidney Poitier and the other African Americans who actually funded his father's 1959 departure. Yes, as the myth goes, it was the great white liberal warrior Kennedy who reached into the dark continent and saved a black man for himself, thereby easing the "white man's burden" that every educated white liberal believes he is harnessed with. Giving credit to these great black men wouldn't have served Obama's fairytale narrative and he didn't want to be "darkened" so early on in the race.
But this is nothing new for Obama who knows when to accentuate his "white half" and down play his "black half" and vice versa for political gain. We all witnessed when he stood before this nation and threw his typical white grandmother under the bus because it served his narrative. But long before that, as we now know, he slighted these great black Americans because telling the truth about their contribution to his Kenyan father's fate didn't fit well within the fairytale he that was crafting for America about being the end product of white liberal kindness.

What a big f'n LIAR Obama is. Is this what we can expect from an unknown asteroid aiming at planet earth? Yes, Obamaddicts are starting to remind me of that scene in "Independence Day" when the "joyfully ecstatic" were blown off their LA rooftop by the aliens. So all those who say Clinton is the bigger liar does this make Obama's lies more acceptable? Either one is behaving like true politicians. Obama just hasn't been a national figure long enough to figure him out. It's time to start looking at where they differ on policy more than how they sell themselves as our mouthpiece.

It's akin to lying about a story for political reasons. HRC embellished a story for the same reason, Obama just made one up. I won't matter because the MSM will give him a pass and probably won't even talk about it.

    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:30 AM on 03/31/2008

The MSM never even mentioned when he lied to Wolf Blitzer during the Debate about who Tony Rezko was. Obama made it sound like he hardly knew the guy, he said "I did about 5 hours of legal work for my firm for him involving a Church" instead of telling the truth about their 17 year relationship, the $250,000 raised and the House Rezko helped him buy.

Yeah, I remember watching him make that statement. It sounded as though they were passing acquaintances, rather than being close enough to work out a real estate deal together.

An ex-friend of mine used to say: "I didn't lie, I just didn't tell the whole story."

    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:47 AM on 03/31/2008

It's not a hit piece. It simply talks about how there is more at work behind the scenes than most are aware of. Yes, Obamites have been researched and marketed to just like any other portion of the electorate. The bigger picture I am referring to is that much has been made by the MSM about Obama's "story book" life. It adds to the narrative that Obama would be hard pressed to try and tamp down on. i.e.-He'd be out of a catchy punchline in Selma if he actually worked off of facts instead of the more romantic version of events. You can argue that the issues are not comparable, but IMO, they are, specifically when Obama is deliberately using them to the advantage of his campaign. I'd say it's fair game on either side.

This is certainly NOTHING compared to Hilliary's HUGE whoppers, which hit at the cornerstone of her campainge. I don't think Obama's cornerstone is that his Dad came to America from Africa paid for by Americans, not the Kennedys. This is probably what his gandmom told him - who knows. But this is innocent and does not rise to the LIES of HILLARY CLINTON! Nice try, but no cigar - oops. Can't mention the cigar stuff.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is simply not true, nor is it credible. Why on earth would somebody endorse Obama because one of their relatives directly helped Obama's father 50 years ago? IMO the reason Obama got the Kennedy endorsements was because the Clintons went negative in South Carolina and made race an issue.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.....he lied for a year about his miniser [sic] and his church being "not very controversial"

I realize that a lot of people are repeating this lie to discredit Obama but mere repetition does not make it true. Obama said that he heard *controversial* things from Rev. Wright but he never heard anything *objectionable*.

The words "controversial" and "objectionable" are not synonymous. What Obama said was perfectly reasonable and not self-contradictory.

PS If you're like me, there are all kinds of things in your family history that you were told by your parents or grandparents--or *thought* you were told by your family about its history--that turned out to be embellished or exaggerated. That's far different than being 50 years old, in the moment, and making up sniper fire that never happened, denying a greeting ceremony that did, and all the lies--in virtually every detail--that Clinton was guilty of. Only a brainwashed Clintonista could fail to be able to tell the difference.

Look at the onslaught against HRC. WOuldn't it be fair to give Obama a little flack for not doing his homework? Let's see he never knew a preacher was a racist or an anti american even though he had a tight relationship for 20 years, not he didn't know the truth about his heritage, he also didn't know Rezco was a criminal.. This is the same Washington Post--newspaper of record for the Washington political establishment--that recently titled an article "Both Obama and Clinton Exaggerate," juxtaposing Hillary's Bosnia whopper with Barack appearing on a dias as a champion of the immigration compromise bill at a single press conference a year ago, as if there were some equivalence between the two. Anyone who has bought into Hillary's crying over how the media is against her should bear in mind that there are establishment outlets--like CNN and the Washington Post--that are clearly slanted in her favor.

Once again, here is the problem with these Washington Post stories. Hillary made Bosnia a central plank in her proof that she had the experience to "answer that 3 AM call." She repeated the story over and over again, reiterated it even when it started to get challenged, right up until the bloody end. Raise your hand if you've ever heard Barack Obama tout his involvement in the immigration bill a year ago as a reason why he should be elected president or indeed, as proof of anything. Raise your hand if you've ever heard him suggest that the fact--or non-fact--that a Kennedy-era program was responsible for his father coming here somehow related to his qualifications to be president (the way that, for example, the Bill Clinton Boys State photo shaking hands with Kennedy was an icon for his '92 campaign).

    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:43 PM on 03/30/2008

bak, it has nothing to do with the 3 am ad. She didn't need to embelish the Bosnia story, because she was still entering a WAR ZONE. Taking on sniper fire, doesn't mean you are better at taking the 3 am call. But going to a war zone, and learning how we were successful first hand, does go towards being better prepared then Obama. I also find it hard to beleive that a die hard Obama supporter hasn't heard him spew that lie about Kennedy, i think that's just more lies and deflection from Obama supporters. And you only look silly when you compare it to the pic with Bill and John F.

I've heard Obama and oh so many of his followers use Kyl-Lieberman as justification for how/why he has better judgment. Never mind the language in his co-sponsored Non-Proliferation Act of 2007, which names the Iranian Republican Guard a terrorist organization as well. Conveniently, it i
