Fighting between security forces and Shi'ite militiamen last month has driven civilian deaths in Iraq to their highest level in more than six months, government figures showed on Tuesday.

A total of 923 civilians were killed in March, up 31 percent from February and the deadliest month since August 2007, according to data compiled by Iraq's interior, defense and health ministries and obtained by Reuters.

I'm sure they'll say that we need to stay in Iraq because violence is up. Just like they were saying that we needed to stay in Iraq because violence was down.

I will bet more than a few Americans have considered how much better it would have been to have

dealt with Saddam Hussein rather than to fight Bush's War for Oil. You know, the Iraqis, believe it.

And what is Bush going to do now with the port city of Basra, which controls 80% of

Iraqi's oil, under the control of the militias?

"Despite the sharp rise in casualties last month, the March figure was still much lower than the 1,861 civilians who died violently in the same month a year ago at a time when Iraq was on the verge of all-out civil war. A total of 1,358 civilians were wounded last month, compared with 2,700 a year ago."

And yet, when Bush rightly points out that the surge is working, and Iraq is making significant security progress, people on the left think he's crazy.

The numbers speak for themselves, people.

I suppose those dead civilians are just numbers to you, but they can't speak anymore. The more than 2 million people displaced might have something to say about the numbers though.
The American and Iraqi epidemiologists, who studied the numbers closely, claim that 655,000 more civilians have died since 2003 than would have without the invasion. They can't speak for themselves anymore either.
And this was all done in our names, "we the people."

Those numbers are bogus. They only interviewed 1600 families. They only interviewed families with seven or more people. They only interviewed families located near the hot zones. According to those studies each family lost an average of 4 people. Then they applied those numbers to the rest of the country. You mean to tell me that the average Iraqi family has lost more than HALF of it's family members? That's a crock. Many of the families they interviewed did not provide ANY death certificates. If their are so many deaths then why can't the bodies be produced? CONFIRMED deaths are somewhere around 100,000. And you conveniently forget to note that the MAJORITY of those deaths were caused by sectarian violence. Not by U.S. troops. Also, you forget to take into account that if you are an insurgent then you are NOT a civilian. Yet insurgents are included in that death toll. Do you think they interviewed 1600 families and they just all happened to be law abiding families who do not participate in the insurgency? Get real. If they want the violence to stop then they should stop killing each other. Plain and simple. We are NOT walking around looking for people to kill.

What speaks more loudly is the fact that al Sadr is the one calling the tune.

If he wants a civil war in Iraq there is very little the Iraqi government or Petraeus can do about it.

I just wish I knew why we think it is a good idea to wear down our military by sitting in the middle of a civil war?

"The numbers speak for themselves, people."

...and of course you think of those that don't look like you as just a number.

If they'd just stop and realize after 1500 years of fighting each other, that now being occupied by a foreign army that shoots, maims, rapes, tortures its citizenry, and is plundering their oil, is a positive thing.

You are exagerating saying they were fighting each other for the last 1500 years . Iraq was the centre of Islamic civilisation , where science and Litterature was taught for centuries , where the Oldest civilisations happened .
Just in the 60s and 70s Iraq was doing really well , and almost eradicated ALL illettracy and had Most people educated , men AND women , many were offered scholarship to study in Britain and America . it has the Most Masters degrees and PHDs in the Arab world combined . there is a saying that goes: Books are made in Beirut and read in Baghdad .
iraq women had the best rights in the Arab world since 1959 , even the christinian community was protected by saddam Hussein , as well as the Yazedis and the torkomans who had the same rights as everyone else . the iraqis had the best health care in the Arab world and saddam had the most sophisticated medical equipments before the US started the Sanctions for 12 years and things went downhill from there .

This story is a complete lie, like all other stories in the justifiably hated media. The only credible source for the real truth in Iraq comes from the only source for the morally supreme viewpoint. We all can and must believe only what the President says on Iraq because to believe the President is to believe the cause of Freedom. Only losers/democrats do not want Freedom in Iraq so therefore only President Bush the well over 20% of Americans who still agree with him can be believed concerning matters of Iraq.

Make no mistake - we have won the war in Iraq; we are winning the war in Iraq; we will continue to win the war in Iraq. Every day we win the war - every day is another success! Never in the entire 6,000 year history of the Earth has a war been won every day for five straght years. Such is the power of Freedom and such is the power of George W Bush.

Think of what a wonderful world this would be if we all were to simply agree with President Bush on everything he says. This surely will happen as long as we are willing to pay the cost of Freedom and destroy all those who oppose President Bush while never questioning him and obeying him without any thought whatsoever.
