As senior Democratic party officials call on superdelegates to announce their presidential candidate preferences, one group remains stubbornly resistant to their pleas--junior members of Congress.

Just back from two weeks at home with their constituents, some worry about a backlash from voters no matter what they do.

I think that if they stood for principles and let their people know the reasons they made the decision they did, that they really thought it was best for this country, their voters, whether they agreed or not, would applaud the politician for being honest. I know that goes a long way with me. I am tired of the manuvering that politicians do. I am tired of being treated as a child and not a thinking adult.

I would not vote for a coward.

How dare those damn constituents, telling you what to do, threatening you. Buck up young congressperson, they have short attention spans, talk to your political Rabbi, review where your campaign funds came from, who you owe, explore what you can get for supporting one or the other, determine which candidate is likely to win (don't support a loser), figure out how long you can ride the fence before you lose more than could be gained by a pick, then you'll know the right thing to do for our Country.

Welcome to the political world, you idiots. What did you think this was ... kindergarten? Grow up and accept the responsibility that was entrusted to you. Politics is not not for the weak. Truman said ...

"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

'In the old days, we had a different name for superdelegates. We called them party bosses.

Obama has performed extraordinarily well in traditionally red states like Louisiana, Georgia and South Carolina. And sure, some of that is due to the black vote. But all of his victories have been marked by two things: larger-than-usual turnout and routs amount independents, leading to the large number of blowout wins that are basically responsible for his delegate lead at the moment. On Super Tuesday, Hillary won 60% of the vote in only one contest, Bill's home state of Arkansas. Obama won seven states by that margin or more.

In other words, Hillary is winning the Democratic voters who are going to vote Democratic anyway! Obama is bringing in new voters, and he's winning large numbers of swing voters in red states. ' Matt Taibbi

obviously, superdelegates are "representing" their own interest... this is not democracy... we need to tear down the democratic party and put it back together right...

I'm glad. Hopefully the Democrats will realize just how messed up the 'superdelegate' concept really is and do away with it.

All new voters must take a class to learn the rules.

New voters joining the process without knowing the rules beforehand and then complaining because they don't agree with, or understand the rules has created a crisis in this election. Even some voters who have been registered for years didn't know the rules.

American citizens who want to drive on the streets must be schooled in the process of driving in order to operate a motor vehicle. An uneducated voter has been proven to be much more dangerous than an unlicened driver.

At least provide an instruction booklet with all voter's registration cards to prevent this from happening again.

I agree...so many just do not know the voteing system we have. They do not know that the parties get to make the rules for the primaries...they do not know that once a candidate wins, that the vote stops...this is a tool for the parties to get the nominee. Then they get to run against the other party. Then we all get to vote in Nov.

Too many can be lied to because they are ignorant, it is not there fault...it is the dumbing down in our schools. So yes, we do need to educate the population. Maybe then lies and ...well yes, lies would not work.

If your going to go there, they should know who the pres is, the VP, the Speaker of the House, The minority leader in the house, The majority and minority leaders in the senate, the secretary of state, and the attorney general. I will bet you that 95% of the people that vote republican, making under $100,000 per year can not name five of the eight. How in the hell can you think you know whats going on if you can't name these people.

First of all, I would like to thank these fine young men and women for their service to the Country. I know how hard it must be to go to a strange place and not know "where the restrooms are and how to use the phone system", like on any new job. The 20 hour work week must be exhausting.

I am surprised the other superdelegates did make these freshmen aware of how the senior members choose the Candidate they endorse, so I will provide the information that I have gotten from the internet.

You should:
1. Go to the following website and locate your name. Read across to the column that contains a dollar amount.
2. Choose the name of the Candidate at the top of the column. Announce that you chose the Candidate because your children told you to do so if it is a certain Candidate.
3. If you choose the Candidate that did not give you money, you will be subject to being called "Judas" and other unsavory names but if you choose the other Candidate, you will be praised and lauded for your vision and wisdom.

Open the website and select your candidate. Feel secure in the knowledge that this is the way 85% of your peers choose their Candidate but realize that up to half of your constituents will hate your guts and won"t vote for you next time.

I see by your profile you are relatively new to HuffPo. Do you always posts with the sense of humor you exhibit in your above posts ???

I find it somewhat refreshing...getting your point across with a back-door satiric humor. I will have to read down your list of posts in your profile...

Just my way of saying thanx !!!

Look, if it is Hillary's Clinton's wrath you fear, she is done in the senate. By forcing too many of her colleages to step over the line in the sand to declare loyalty to her she has found that many she thought were on her side just arent'. So...I don't see her able to pony up and move along there. So go ahead and go out for Obama.
I don't thing Obama would be vindictive like she would if you voted for her. So go ahead and go out for Clinton.
Stop being wishy washy. Make an honest decision and be done. The more you stay on the fence, the less respect we have for you.
Come out with a well reasoned basis for your decision and move on.

It's nothing to do with Hillary. It has to do with the latest very stupid move on the part of the Elite Washington group. This business of sending out the surrogates to try to get the super delegates to bully her out right before the actual voting starts?

You guys think that went by unnoticed by Hillary's supporters?

I am absolutely so appalled at this tactic, supported by Pelosi, Kennedy, Richardson, et al, that I will be registering as an Independent regardless of who wins the candidacy.

I was just starting to like Obama, too, now that he knocked off those nutty rallies.

Too late. This is now a loss by the Democratic Party.

The candidates are both doing OK as far as sniping, etc.

But those party idiots?

They are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy out of line.

The idea of pushing out a viable candidate was the last straw.

I guess that Hillary's money men going to the DNC and Nancy Pelosi and trying to blackmail them has nothing to do with Hillary?

And I am sick of half baked hacks useing the word Elites...and taking it to mean something bad. To be elite is to be special for a reason..through talent and intellect. So yes, those who are leaders in the Democratic Party, are elite. And they asked Hillary to drop out, did so because she was dirtying up the stage. She is lieing to her supporters and causeing them to feel Obama is unfit. She did that so that it would make him unelectable. All the smears that come from her campaign...so them saying that her supporters going to McCain if Obama wins...will make O unelectable. She is planning all this. Then with her backers black mailing..she is dirty. And would be no step up from Bush.

Ann...you must have noticed that "kettletop" missed the point of the article !!!

I don't think it's the wrath of either candidate stopping these freshmen or junior Democrats from supporting a candidate. First clue for me was the headline: ".....Fear Constiuent Backlash..."

You've shown some reason in your posts lately....maybe mornings are better for you than afternoon or evenings. But cut the blogger a break when they don't get the point of an article, hey???

:)

That is exactly what we want from our leaders: moral cowardice. Looking out for their own re-election, nothing else. Here"s an idea mister and miss congressperson: how about support the candidate you in your heart believe is best for the country, no matter what your constituents will do. That is why you are a super-delegate.

Does anyone else think that there is something undemocratic about the super-delegate nonsense?

This concern about keeping one's congressional seat again begs the question: what the hell are these people doing in Congress in the first place? Is retaining an elected position more important than principle? Are these officials only interested in drawing a federal paycheck, in lieu of standing to support a candidate, even at the risk of losing that paycheck? There shouldn't be ONE elected official afraid to offer an endorsement at this time. None. If service to your country takes precedence to that paycheck, stand up and be counted, and be prepared to lose that seat if your constituents don't support the same. Serving one's country should be an avocation, not a vocation, as Jefferson posited two centuries past.

If supers are so narcicisstic, they don't deserve the job anyway. The choice is so clear:

"Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation " one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman"s 17-year career.

Why?

'Because she was a liar,' Zeifman said in an interview last week. 'She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.'"
