The Colombian government severed ties with Clinton strategist Mark Penn and his public relations firm Saturday, unhappy Penn referred to a recent meeting with the Colombian ambassador as an "error in judgment."

"Mr. Mark Penn, President and CEO of Burson Marsteller, responded to claims by Union representatives who questioned his relationship with the Colombian Government by declaring that it was an 'error in judgment' to meet with his client the Colombian Ambassador on March 31. The Colombian government considers this a lack of respect to Colombians, and finds this response unacceptable," a statement from the Colombian embassy said.http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/04/05/colombia-cuts-ties-with-clinton-strategist/

The Clintons have been waiting for an excuse to unload this expensive piece of baggage, and now it looks like they'll have the opportunity to do so.

My guess is they'll make an announcement, probably tomorrow, that Penn's stepping down, "For the good of the campaign," and save themselves a tidy little $4 mill a month in salary for him.

It's all about the money now. They'll shed as many positions as they can -- anything to prevent them from dipping into their own fortunes to bankroll their miserable excuse for a prez campaign. At least Mitt Romney had the balls to own up to his lack of public-generated funding, by acknowledging he was writing checks to himself to keep his campaign going -- the Clintons won't even admit that they're doing the same thing.

When they've bled enuf, financially, they'll quit -- and blame it on anyone and everyone but themselves.

Penn is obviously a mole (a really big one) planted by the Republicans,. The Clitnons are too ethical and too smart to have a sleaze like Penn work for them.

Penn fired by Columbia government - only because the media busted him. Had that letting meeting never got out he'd still be getting paid.

Cozying up to the Columbians an error on judgement??? Gee, the Columbians didn't see it that way: "The Colombian government considers this a lack of respect to Colombians, and finds this response unacceptable," a statement from the Colombian embassy . Penn could not have been unaware of the impact such a contact would have on Hilly's campaign AND he's the master campaign strategist? No wonder her campaign is in the toilet.

The Clinton"s are not stupid,¦ I can"t believe people think she doesn"t know who Mark Penn"s clients are and the things he is working on, wake up people, she knows what"s up, this is the biggest "BS" scam in Political history "the Clinton"s"!! How can someone claim to be the most experienced and act so naïve, why are people buying this, it takes real skill to manipulate people like this and the Clinton's pray on the unfortunate, it"s sad.

All "Mrs. so called Vetted" cares about is winning/cheating/stealing the nomination, and if she gets the nomination, it is "hell to the people" with what I said or promised, you think Cheney bad just wait!!!

The Clintons walk in the same shoes as Bush and Cheny, and the rest of the little NeoCons.

The Clintons are both known as total control freaks. In addition, you don't want to be perceived as crossing them (ever)--as the recent Richardson attacks demonstrate.

Penn is the ultimate Clinton flunky--and its making him millions. He'd defintely never deal with the Colombian government on a sensitive trade agreement without Hillary's knowledge. He is many things, but NOT stupid.

Agreed. Hillary Clinton's underhanded, duplicitous dealings with the murderous regime in Colombia exemplifies the hypocritical side of her. The U.S. funded "War on Drugs" in Colombia runs at about $2 billion/year last I heard. Murder of children is not unusual.

I definitely think America doesn't want Hillary's kind of 'free market'.

Could you imagine the negative attacks from Faux news and the HRC campaign if this had been Sen. Obama's top adviser? Let's drop the house on the witch please!

"I would ask you to look at that story, substitute my name for Senator Obama," she also said. "If some of my advisers had been having private meetings with foreign governments and basically saying ignore what I'm saying because it's only political rhetoric ¦ I think it raises serious questions."

Three major lies in the last 2 weeks. A new world record. What if Obama had this kind of lying record? How is this woman appealing to ANYONE?

Columbian President Uribe only started criticizing Obama calling him "out of touch with the realities of the South American nation." only AFTER Mark Penn's trip to Columbia.

He went on to say "I deplore the fact that Senator Obama, aspiring to be president of the United States, should be unaware of Colombia's efforts," "I think it is for political calculations that he is making a statement that does not correspond to Colombia's reality."

What did Mark Penn say to Uribe that made him want to back Clinton over Obama almost immediately after the meeting with Penn???

Does Mark Penn's haircut bother anyone else? That haircut could only have been conceived in a movie script. If the character concept was for the most slimy, unpleasant and disturbing looking character, then Mark Penn would fit the role perfectly, i reckon. Doesn't Mark or Hillary have PR? Get him a better haircut, for god's sake.

No problemo, the Bill, after all, knows of a good barber in L.A.. Just park the old campaign plane on the runway at LAX and give him a call. I'm thinking that his fee is more than $200 by now, but what the hey, money to burn. It would be just like old times.

For a trade unionist, Columbia is by far the most dangerous place in the world. Over 2500 murdered, many of them women,in the past ten years.

It's Colombia learn how to spell. I clicked your linked there thinking it might be some reference as to where your getting all this misinformation but it's a powerpoint presentation(a bad on at that) and if you look at data from any legitimate media you will find out the drastic improvement made by the current President Uribe.

I would hardly call myself a Hillary lover but frankly, what Penn does in his capacity as a CEO for a PR firm has nothing whatsoever to do with the Clinton campaign. If Penn is guilty of anything it is poor judgment in the he seeks to have his cake and eat it too. Penn has been around politics long enough to know what will eventually bite him in the ass. Taking on the Columbia government and maintaining them as a client while working with Clinton as chief strategist was an obvious conflict of interest that Penn and Hillary Clinton should have recognized. Penn could have bowed out of his Colombian contract gracefully of better yet never have taken on this client since he knew in 2007 that he would play a major roll in Clinton's campaign, a campaign that would seek the support of labor. In any event, this is much ado about nothing.

So...you think its just a coincidence that Colombia's president started criticizing Obama right after Penn's visit last week?

i think it's time for hillary to leave the race for white house. she, husband and surrogates have too long a bad 'rap sheet.' give obama a chance before the party is divided. penn is just there for money, whether his actions destroy the party or not. what a bad apple

I'm not a Hillary supporter at all, but I'm being objective here -- I think -- in my criticism: This is the major problem with her campaign. Not her being a woman, not her ideas or exaggerations or outright lies. All successful politicans exaggerate to some degree. But it's having loudmouth, boisterous fat asses like Mark Penn represent her to the media and the country. Penn is a bull in a china shop. He's hurt her campaign and she should've fired this blowhard a long time ago. It's no different than being a CEO and having your secretary be a rude, obnoxious slug. That person represents YOU. That person is the first impression people have of YOU. Penn is getting paid playing both sides against the middle. Good for him personally, I guess. Bad for Hillary.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:07 PM on 04/05/2008

If he were good-looking would people think better of Penn? It seems there are a lot of posts mentioning that he's fat and / or sloppy.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:43 PM on 04/05/2008

It's because he has the kind of ugliness that comes from the inside out. His bad looks are not merely unfortunate, they are emblematic of the kind of person he is.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:04 AM on 04/06/2008

This proves that Mark Penn has been the plant in Hillary Clinton's campaign all along. What else could possibly explain all of the screw-ups he has caused.

He should have known that David Axelrod would use the same tactics of character destruction and race baiting, that he used to get Obama elected to the U.S. Senate and other young unknown Black candidates elected to public office, and headed it off.

James Carville and Paul Begula would have been much better because they had a plan as explained in their book.
