Was Terry McAuliffe, chairman of Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, engaging in his own sort of hedging strategy at a recent meeting of Washington State Democrats? Or was the former Democratic National Committee chair engaging in a kumbayah, all-us-Democrats-are-in-this-together moment?

McAuliffe attended the regional caucuses of the Washington State Democrats over the weekend and graciously posed with some grass-roots Democrats.

It does make sense that her TOP DOWN campaig will reach its understanding in a bottom up way.

The one thing that is not being measured is how much momentum the DEMS would have if we had ONE GD canidate at this point.

Grandpa Mccain gets to atleast travel knowing he is the pick for pres.

What is he doing? Reminding Obama supporters that we are all Democrats, not just "Democrats for a Day". Why are Obama supporters so mean? I thought Obama inspired HOPE and UNITY. This shows which team is truly capable of unity- again - by actions, not just words.

Oh, Obamakins don't let the smooth grin fool ya; he's hustling votes for Hillary and taking names.

I don't think he has taken any names. I've heard of a few Clinton delegates switching to Obama but have not heard the reverse.

Terry was being nice for the "just in case" vote and you idiots can't even see that.
He's still your boy. He's in the tanker for Hillary and loves Bills dirty drawers. Damn I bet you Clintonistas would eat your young.

McCauliffe is as slippery as they come. McCauliffe is the embodyment of everything that is wrong with the Clinton's. Terry makes used car salesman look like alter boys. He makes whores look like Mother Theresa and he almost but not quite out does Bill in the realm of deception. In short, Terry is exactly what is wrong with and has infected the Democratic party since the Clinton's arrived on the scene.

I think that Terry McAuliffe is a big man. He would pose with Obama supporters though he had his Hillary pin. That is really big of him. I respect that.

News flash to the rest of Hillary supports. Obama is your friend, McCain is the enemy.

McAuliffe, smarmy though he is, is 100% for Bill & Hillary. Bill was behind the aggressive campaign to make McAuliffe head of the DNC. Thank goodness that failed--otherwise we'd be counting FL and MI and anything else that favored Clinton.

Catch him on The Daily Show. He seems so fake he might as well be playing the part of a sleazy opportunistic political money-man in a movie.

As for the signs--well, cute pictures but painful irony when you consider he was there to poach Obama delegates for Hillary--despite her earlier statement that she'd never do that. On the other hand, I like the humor of Obama supporters not only saying, "No thanks" but getting the head of Hillary's fundraising efforts to pose with them! Kind of good, that,

Hillary would do ANYTHING to get elected. Even get selected Ala Bush.

I despise Hillary Clinton at this point, but it is becoming painful to watch her campaign crash and burn. Time for somebody to yank the plug. This woman won't make it to the White House but she is lucky if she has any job in public service after this campaign.

One word - wow!

As an Obama delegate in WA State, I would have loved to take a picture with him -- as long as he was helping me to hold up an Obama sign -- love it!

It is not surprising to see Terry in Washington over the weekend. Washington was finalizing its delegates and votes and Terry in the crowd can only mean he was attempting to sweet talk people into changing from being an Obama delegate to a Clinton delegate.

One of the best byproducts of an Obama presidency will be that the cronies of Bush and the cronies of Clinton will be locked out. Terry, Jim, Eddie, and the rest will be gone.

Well, as someone who was at the caucus in Washington State and attended several meetings of the Party at the district level as well as separate Obama supporter meetings as a precinct captain, I can tell you that Terry wasn't there to try to affect the Party leaders in my district--they are 90% for Clinton. That's likely because they are mostly nice retired ladies and an occasional husband thrown in the mix. He wasn't there to influence the pledged delegates--they have no political consequences to their support and were not going to be persuaded. He was there to speak to SuperDelegates as yet uncommitted and also attended some of the caucuses to say Hey to the base.

Ha -- I'm an Obama delegate elected to go on to the WA State Convention, I'd love to see Terry try to convert me -- ain't gonna happen! :)

As an Obama supporter Ive been let down by some of Terry's comments & actions in the recent past, but, in this instance, I think this was a magnanimous gesture of party unity. Maybe the dark-side's hold on people like McCauliffe is beginning to slip. It was certainly an odd decision for him to actually be holding a big Obama sign, since I'm sure he could have allowed pics to be taken without that sign, or atleast without him holding it. You can barely even see his Hillary button in the photos.

You do realize Terry was in Washington to attempt to talk pledge delegates to switch from Obama to Clinton?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:31 PM on 04/07/2008

No. That's not it. It is a hassle to caucus. First we had to show up on a Saturday, find our precincts and then sign in with our choices. I found that only th 3 or 4 people who signed in as uncommited switched, and they knew from the start who would be their second choice. To give up one Saturday you have to feel fairly strongly. The next step in Washington was to go to the Legislative District Caucus, where these photos were taken. That's giving up yet another Saturday. These people are even more certain and set. Again you sign in with your preference. When it was time to allow someone to change their minds, only 1 person out of over 600 rushed out of the auditorium to change from Clinton to Obama after witnessing the rudeness of her group of delegates when they returned the Obama supporters courtesy during their Clinton surrogate's speech by booing and rudely shouting out.
Terry is a politician, and he knows that the party requires he support of VERY Democrat. He did the right thing. Publically, too! Good for him. First time someone from the Clinton side inspired hope!
