Today on "Ellen," Hillary Clinton explained her April Fool's joke on the press, and told Ellen, "your personal admirer and friend Chris Matthews was in the front row" of her faux-press conference where she challenged Barack Obama to a bowl-off.

Matthews visited Ellen last month and, while dancing with the host, managed to grope her and throw her to the floor.

"Don't dance with him," Ellen told Hillary. "Don't do it."

Hillary replied: "Well, I feel like he manhandles me every night."

"He was just laughing after it was over," Ellen said. "He didn't even realize what happened."

"That happens a lot in the political coverage I get," Hillary said to Ellen.

Chris Matthews came under fire earlier this primary season for what many perceived as sexist remarks against Hillary Clinton, remarks for which he was ultimately forced to apologize.

Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann are the cure to the common BS we are used to getting from CNN.

Hillary has no breasts to get manhandled unless you count those two little nubs on her chest..lol

I doubt that Hillary's been "manhandled" since Chelsea was conceived.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:43 AM on 04/09/2008

LMAO.., thanks for the chuckle of the day!(I would almost go a step further; if Chelsea did't look exactly like her, would think she might have been found on the door step...)As for Mathews "manhandling" Ellen, give the guy a break, she encourages her guest to come out and break out their moves; seemed evident he was making an attempt, but hardly saw any lust in his eyes to grope the host, if so, he was on the wrong show!

Thanks for chuckling, Stateof. Not many here at HuffPost seem to appreciate my humor. I'm with you about the Stork possibly bringing Chelsea, though. If it wasn't for that darned resemblance factor.... Hill with a smattering of Bill thrown in. Glad she straightened her hair.

Love how Ellen dissected the Mathews event. Very funny.

The guy Matthews, should wear a spittle mask when he has guests on, with a mouth like his that always interups a guest , he's very much on an ego trip, so what I did , some time ago , I bought new batteries for my remote and ZAPPPPPPPPED the creep.

I starting to think Hillary can no longer distinguish between her fantasies and reality . . .

Chris Matthews was still the only major media figure to question the whole issue of WMDs and this Iraq War before I started. Know it's unpopular to say so, but it's true. Not Dan Rather, not PBS, not all those who now claim they are. Chris Matthews.

Now I know it's en vogue to hate him, and he almost definitely deserves it for any number of reasons, but had just a few more journalists (and in his case I use the term lightly) had the guts to stand up to the Bush Administration the way Matthews did we wouldn't have this war.

It's cool now for all the so-called "liberal" journalists to act like they opposed the invasion from the beginning. But they didn't. Only Matthews did.

VERY WELL SAID. The Clintonistas just don't want to accept reality - and the reality is that Chris Matthews was the first to begin to ask serious questions about what's going on. Personally, I think he's disappointed in some of the things that Hillary and her campaign have done. I recall that for MONTHS before Iowa, his reporting assumed Hillary was going to be the nominee and he gave her every advantage. Matthews can't be blamed for Hillary's demise - that's Hillary own burden.

Wouldnt it be great to have a president who was smart and genuinely funny?

P.S. Since Huffpo is not running the follow-up story in a way that you can comment on, on site,, I will take this opportunity to say, I was correct, it was not the deputy sheriff and Hillary who were lying about the hospital story, IT WAS THE HOSPITAL! Surprise, surprise............................

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:50 PM on 04/08/2008

I saw Ann Kornbutt on race08 yesterday saying there were two hospitals involved. I looked for he column today but didn't find it. I figured maybe the mother was denied at one hospital and shipped to the second................too late to save her and the baby. Do you have a link to the story?

All those people that have calling Hillary a liar on blogs, Huffpost comments and pundits on TV have not corrected their false story, and apologized to Hillary for their slander.

Chris Matthews is my hero and I am sick of everyone carrying on how unfair he is to poor Hillary. Everything he has ever said about her is true, including her reason for getting elected to the Senate. And she has obviously stayed married to that loser Bill all these years so he could help with her run for the White House. Too bad he is more of a liability than a help.

She has completely mismanaged her campaign and no one should trust her with running the country.

Chris Matthews, the man who mocked Al Gore for his clothes, his sighs, his voice, the man who spread lie after lie about Al Gore, eg that he claimed to have invented the internet; Chris Matthews, the man who helped get Bush elected by calling him someone you want to have a beer with, as opposed to Al Gore; Chris Matthews, the man who called Senator Clinton Nurse Ratchet, who called men supporting her "castratos in a eunuch choir," Chris Matthews, the man who pinched Senator Clinton on the cheek and grabbed Ellen's breasts-- both agressive actions clearly done in order to put these women in their place-- this is your "hero." Progressives used to care about a little something called gender equality.

hillary is a misandrist, sexist pig.

Whenever it's politically convenient she's the victim, the girl, fighting for truth, justice and the american way against the nasty boys who won't let her be president.

hillary, you make me vomit. you are an embarrassment to women who stand on their own two feet.

I do not even watch Chris Matthews anymore. It literally makes me sick to my stomach. I do not believe that a journalist should advertise for a certain candidate. But if you are going to show that you are in the tank for one particular candidate fine, but do not go on a smear campaign against the other candidate. He has completely lost all his creditability as a journalist. I have seen the worst sexism in the past three months than I have seen in my whole entire life.

HILLARYBALL should be the name of Cris Matthews'show. He and his carefully selected guests have beaten Hillary and Bill Clinton with a baseball bat mercilessly since Dec.07.His attacks on her are even more outrageous, because he will not vote for Obama! HIS CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT IS JOHN McCAIN ,WHO HE COMPARES TO HIS HERO, WINSTON CHURCHILL.HE WANTS OBAMA TO WIN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY,BECAUSE HE KNOWS OBAMA WILL BE VAPORIZED WITHIN 30 DAYS, AND McCAIN WILL WIN.!!REV. WRIGHT VIDEOS WITH OBAMA WILL BE ON T.V.,WITH WRIGHT'S ANTI-AMERICAN STATEMENTS,UNTIL ELECTION DAY.THE REPUBLICAN SLIME MACHINE AND THEIR 527 SWIFT-BOAT LIERS,WHO DESTROYED JOHN KERRY,A LEGITIMATE WAR HERO,WILL BE WORKING 24-7!!!

It has been obvious that Matthews has been bashing Hillary to try to get Obama the nomination. I have been saying Chris might have a schizophrenic break if it is Obama vs. McCain because Chris Matthews has said on a few occasions that McCain deserves to be president. Maybe you are right, maybe he thinks Obama is the weaker candidate.

I know Peggy Noonan, Bill Kristol and Frank Luntz have been singing praises to Obama for months. All three of these people are staunch Republicans, and I can't imagine them picking the strongest Democrat for the general. Does anyone think they want to help elect a Dem. I don't think so. I think they didn't think the Repugs had a chance in hell to win in 2008.........unless they get the weaker Democrat nominated.

The day after the NH Primary, Chris Matthews said flat out that the ONLY reason HRC was elected to the Senate in 2000 was out of sympathy for her cheating husband.

That was the rudest comment and completely untrue. Hillary Clinton worked very hard to win that senate seat, and was re-elected in 2006 with a huge majority. All of you Obamaniacs who think the press and the media have been fair or unbiased about Clinton are deluding yourselves. MSNBC has made a sport out of "how can we spin all things Hillary as negative".

Everynight, they rail against her, scrutinize her everyword, call her campaing "troubled"....meanwhile WHERE is Obama? Does he have daily press conferences like she does? Where is the scrutiny of him??

There are a lot of hard-working and talented women in New York State. The difference between them and Hillary is that Hillary happened to have been married to the President of the United States. She is an insult to all those woman who have had to go it alone to get where they are. She is no feminist.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:12 PM on 04/08/2008

I guess she is an insult in the same way that Bill, who was named the first black president by blacks, in an insult to blacks. I actually have heard that remark by black pundits on TV. How isulting that is to the Clintons, who did much for blacks while in the WH. It is always the same question..............what have you done for me lately?..made infamous by Judas Richardson.

NE73 -- Matthews may have not been particularly sensitive about "the only reason" that Hillary was elected to the Senate. However, many msm and cable pundits have noted that the strong loyalty of older white women to Hillary ( her "base or demographic") is that she has shared many of their own problems, i.e., bad marriage/infidelity, gossip, criticism and has overcome those obstacles to achieve her goals. That appears to be a very real reason for that base support. You could also note that Hillary's being "a fighter" stems from these same issues, were you to look at this objectively.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:49 AM on 04/08/2008

I agree that Chris Mathews has been more critical of Hillary, but her campaign is in trouble, where have you been???...She thought this nomination was in the bag and failed to plan sufficiently for the primaries post super tuesday. There's been internal fighting throughout her campaign, her campaign manager and her top strategist have been arguing on the direction the campaign should take. They have yet to have a consistent message, from running on experience to now being a fighter. There's a conflict of interest with her so called former top strategist and her positions. Members of her own campaign has said Penn failed to plan for caucuses. Bill Clinton said the way this campaign was run is political malpractice. She cannot manage the funds of her campaign sufficiently, spending 1000's on donuts while being late on her staffs medical insurance. You can support this disaster of a campaign and the candidate all you want but if thats how she's going to run the country then no thanks i'll pass!!

And all MSNBC did was spin FOR Hillary for a year before she actually announced. They propped her up as the presumptive candidate until Iowa and the media began to examine her campaign more closely - as they should have. Hillary's crying jag before NH and the suggestion that the SC primary would go to Obama because of the racial makeup of that state took the media in a different direction. To say that Hillary's position was due to her marriage to Bill Clinton was perhaps unfair, perhaps not, but certainly was on the minds of many voters both then and today.
