Mark Penn shouldn't just be out of his job as chief strategist for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign, he should be cut off completely from her operation, one of the senator's most important supporters says.

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell told USA TODAY's Kathy Kiely yesterday that Penn "was just dead wrong" when he took on the job of promoting a trade deal that the Colombian government wants to strike with the USA even though Clinton opposes that trade pact.

For once I agree with Rendell. He KNOWS that leaving Penn in place as well as Bill Clinton's consorting with the Columbians makes their "I'm for the Proletariat" position one of a LONG list of lies.

I hope the Pennsylvanians will not allow the Clintons to give their jobs to the Columbians and other countries, only to justify their actions later through slick, well-crafted lies.

Well, Gov. Rendell should make better decisions about who to endorse. He KNOWS that this is the way the Clintons operate. Remember Dick Morris? There's a reason the Clintons attract this sort of person.

Well, now that we know that Bill Clinton made $800K speaking in support of the Columbian trade agreement and even lobbied Congress for its passage, maybe BILL should leave the Democratic party.

I'm sort of surprised...when Rendell jumped on her bandwagon, I just assumed he was the same kind of "back room, say what you have to to get elected and then do whatever is best for you personally" politician Hillary is.

His going public makes me have to reconsider my opinion of him.

I saw Nixon on CNN this morning and she said she "addressed" this issue. You mean Penn is still involved with her campaign?

Ed's going to see just how much influence he has with HRC's campaign and how far he can push her. It's obvious he's spoken about this with her in private. The fact that he's gone public with this is a clear message to HRC and her campaign that they are completely missing the point, especially with regard to PA and Mark Penn.

You know, when a blowhard like Ed Rendell finally knows you're doing something incredibly stupid, it might be time to admit that you're doing something incredibly stupid. Penn has no place in the Democratic Party, let alone the Presidential campaign of a losing Democrat. Also, I'm somewhat angry with the Clintons for forcing me to see Mark Penn's repulsive face on the internet and television. I'd call the cops if I saw him driving an ice cream truck.

Obviously, Rendell understands what is going on in his state in regard to Mark Penn and organized labor. If it wasn't a serious issue, he would not come forward like this. He probably also has his neck on the line with PA constituents who will determine whether or not he remains in office given his outspoken support of Clinton. Mayor Nutter should probably also pay close attention.

All that said, Clinton is not likely to discharge Penn completely. It would shock me if she did.

IF she really didn't know about his dealings with the Columbians
IF he hadn't been speaking to the Columbians on her behalf
IF he didn't have a lot of 'dirt' on her she feared seeing the light of day...

then she would do the appropriate thing and completely distance herself from him.

Well, surely she was aware that her husband made $800,000 speaking in Latin America in support of the agreement and lobbied Congress to pass it. We know she's "distanced" herself from him in some ways, but if he took four trips to Columbia to speak in support of it, you'd think she would have known that. If think that, if I went to Columbia four times and brought back $800K, my wife would be at least mildly curious about what I was doing down there...

Rendell is correct. But i seriously doubt if HRC will completely banish him, even though she knows she should. Step right up, folks and watch the meltdown:-)

From what I read, Penn is not well liked in the Clinton camp, so getting rid of him would improve the climate (and the hairstyle).

Penn made too many mistakes, that alone should cost him his job. On the other hand, Obama is praised for his loyalty to Wright, so why should Clinton not show some loyalty too?

this is why she better not show loyality to Penn bish66. The story doesn't stop with Penn! Wolfson also signed a 40,000. a mo contract with the colubians. You know if that isn't bad enough news for Hillary Clintons campagn ---------Joe Lockhart and Joel Johnston who was Bill Clinton senior advicer in the white house in the 90's have also deep involment with the Columbians. Seems they must have all got together in those great 90's time you talk about when Bill clinton was President and decided to make themself all rich people by saleing out america. Seems every one Hillary knows is involved in these Columbian deals! What a scandel and a big laugh! You know darn well she knew what was going on! Now you know why Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton couldn't,wouldn.t and didn't fire Mark Penn out right and will still Use his services. SOUNDS Like something is rotten in Denmark to me, and the Clintons is deep in the rot and Mark Penn knows where all those skeletons lay at-------At least all the columbian connection ones! but than I'm darn sure thats's enough to make the Clintons shake in their boots during a Presidential Campagne, wouldn't you say bish66. Now know why she didn't just get rid of him?

......from your mouth to God's ears! I am beginning to wonder about our Hillary. Screaming from the rooftops apparently hasnt worked, and her ardent supporters are losing confidence. She is losing appeal as she sticks with this guy.

Sure he is! His ass in on the line as the Governor of PA. He will need to explain himself to his own constituents when Hillary is long gone from the scene.

Keep an eye on Philly Mayor Nutter, too.

I agree with Rendell on this one. There's nothing to be gained by keeping Penn around at all.

Seriously, Ann, do you see NO wrong when it comes to Hillary? I support Obama and have plenty of issues with him, just nowhere near as many as I have with Hillary, who I once vehemently (and very ignorantly) supported as much as you. Just saying, it might do you good to cast a critical eye in Hillary's direction every once in a while if you hope to demonstrate even a shred of credibility in your arguments for, and defense of, Hillary.

Anyway, I agree with drmavis. How can anyone think that Clinton doesn't know what Penn is up to and doesn't share his same philosopies when it comes to campaigning, tactics, and issues? To have him on the frontlines of her campaign, Hillary is either just as big an asshole as Penn is, or she is incredibly stupid, neither of which belongs in the WH.

Penn strikes me as the type who would indeed air all of the Clintons' dirty laundry, backroom dealings, and blatant lying should Hillary try to dispose of him. Too bad she isn't doing better in fundraising, because to get rid of this guy would probably be worth the undoubtedly astronomical hush money he would demand.

Sure there is -- prevent him from going all Dick Morris on her and spilling the beans to the press...
