Patrick Swayze has had an "excellent" response to treatment for pancreatic cancer, the actor and his doctor said Tuesday.

"We're thrilled and grateful for the positive response Patrick has shown towards his treatment," the Dirty Dancing star and wife Lisa Niemi tell PEOPLE.

"Also, we can't help but feel that all the prayers, meditations and good thoughts sent his way by everyone has made a difference. Thank you!" said the couple.

His physician, Dr. George Fisher, added: "Patrick Swayze continues to respond well to his treatment for pancreatic cancer. Because of his excellent response, he will continue the same therapy at Stanford."

yeah.....always looks good at the beginning of therapy, until the body is a wreck from all the chemical poison and then it goes down hill real quick. I am glad that there is hope, but don't give up making your arrangements.

Amen, I'm happy for Patrick.

The movie "Ghost" was televised this past weekend and I cried at the end. It was so touching watching the character Sam say goodbye while the other souls were waiting for him. Then they surrounded him and he blended in with the rest. The ending is a real tear jerker.

When I was in jr. high Dirty Dancing came out and all the girls were in love w/ Swayze. He went on to bigger and better things of course. I think a lot of people forget how big of a movie star he was during the late eighties to the mid nineties.

The guy was major for about six or so years. My particular favorite was Roadhouse where he played a badass bouncer, called Dalton and Sam the man Elliot was "Wade Garrett." I don't normally go for that type of macho film but this one kicks all kinds of ass! If you're into those types of films I highly recommend checking it out.

I know he's paid his dues doing less than A-list material since around '95, but his well-being is what"s most important. I can only hope for a speedy recovery to a great performer and one hell of a dancer. Who, like in jr. high all the girls longed for.

I've loved Patrick Swayze since Dirty Dancing. My husband has seen Roadhouse at least 30 times. One performance of Patrick's that I'll never forget was a skit on SNL called White Trash Bed and Breakfast. My husband and I laughed so hard.....he was hysterical! Also on that particular show was the great skit of Patrick and Chris Farley as Chippendale dancers. No need to say it here, but the man can dance!!!!

This is such great news about his treatment. He and Lisa are in our prayers. Wishing him a speedy recovery. I had a big crush on him in the 80's and I still do. I've never heard anything negative about him or Lisa. This "speaks" volumes of their character. Wishing them the very best always!!!!
