Whenever we write anything mildly complimentary about Apple Computers, we get jumped in comments by computer class-warriors who call us "fanboys", even though I can't even find the ON switch on an apple machine. While I do appreciate Apple's design sensibilities, sometimes I think the anti-apple brigade might have a point about their arrogance. For example, Apple Computer is sueing "challenging" the City of New York's travel and tourism office. It is running a campaign called "GreeNYC to convince New Yorkers to take steps to reduce greenhouse gases, and hired New York design firm Turf to designed a stylized apple, a symbol of New York since well before Steve Jobs was born.

Apple claims that the GreeNYC mark is "likely to cause confusion, mistake or deception in the minds of consumers."..."Any defect, objection or fault found with [GreeNYC's] goods and services marketed under [GreeNYC's] marks would necessarily reflect upon and seriously injure the reputation which [Apple] has established for its goods and services."

These marketing fucks... protecting their "brand." I love Apple computers, I'm on my sixth, but this has corporate branding assholes written all over it.

I love Apple, but I could have sworn that they ripped off their logo from the Beatles' apple logo. Hmmm!

With the "green" movement today, apple should be glad that they might be mistaken for being more "green". Besides, it doesn't look like a Mac label.

Uh, it's an apple for God's sake! would Apple prefer it look like apple sauce?

It certianly doesn't look to me like an Apple logo to me, this is kind of going a bit far. What I mean is if they want to construe this as tradmark infringment they had better sue Mother nature I hear her apples look just like thier logo.

Looks like apple is no longer run by comuter geeks but by on-retainer attorneys looking to justify their existence. Cost of living is a bitch in San Mateo/Santa Clara counties.... need all the income they can generate.
This suit is empty.
Heh.

I recall about 30 years ago Apple objected to another company calling itself Pineapple.

That was when I bought my first and only Apple computer. I've bought thousands since then and I'll NEVER buy an Apple computer.

I recall about 17 years ago I bought my one and only PC...a piece of crap Tandy I believe...Haven't touched a Windows machine since. I have not needed thousands of Macs since then though, only two desktops and a laptop...haven't felt the urgency to upgrade every 2 years.

Still Steve Jobs has better things to worry about..so he needs to drop this nonsense.

Well, if you had bought an Apple, only one would have been enough.

He said he bought one, and they are nothing more then a computer an over priced one at that. There is nothing special about apples, or macs . Except people get duped in to thinking they are somehow sepcial when they find out that it is just a computer they try to develope this cult metality and convert others into buying one. Funny thing is if aplle computers were all that how come they only represent 10 percent of the computers sold world wide?

It's a design thing. You wouldn't understand.

I am a Mac user and I love Apple; however, this is a ridiculous lawsuit. I agree that those who bring frivolous lawsuits ought to be fined. The apple itself is one of the oldest symbols in existence. How dare any company, even one I admire, make a claim that they "own" the image of an apple!

Mr. Jobs, I am forever a faithful user of Apple Computer products...however, give me a break! The NYC logo looks nothing like Apple's logo. Get a grip and get back into the lab a create the next best thing in computing.

I feel it's my civic duty to tell Apple that parents all over the country have encouraged their preschool children to infringe on their copyright. The evidence can be found hanging on refrigerators everywhere.

Can I get a referral fee from the lawsuits?

What's next? Patenting the adage "an apple a day..."? Suing God? How dare He create fruit in their logo's image? Applesauce will become a priceless commodity, orchards will be closed down, and fruit salad will never be the same!!

Really, like Apple is the only entity that has ever used an apple as a logo? If their claim held any water then Apple Records would have already stripped Apple Computers of their logo years ago. Apple is wasting taxpayer money with this lawsuit and should be fined for it if they lose. Actually, I believe that there should be a law in the books that if someone brings a lawsuit against someone and loses, they should pay for the costs on both sides. This will no doubt prevent all future frivilous lawsuits without preventing people from coming to court with serious claims.

Nope. Don't see it. Case dismmissed. Next.
