Former White House chief strategist Karl Rove wasn't clapping when Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo was given the "Blogger of the Year" award (in absentia) at The Week magazine's Opinion Awards dinner at the Four Seasons hotel Tuesday night.

Marshall won the award for his relentless coverage of the U.S. attorneys firings scandal -- and the White House's behind-the-scenes role in the firings.

Since Rove himself was accused of having a role in the firings, the moment was a bit awkward.

Marshall, who also won a George Polk Award for his work on the story, posted thousands of internal Justice Department e-mails and memos on his blog, which became mandatory reading for anyone following the unfolding scandal.

Just as Marshall was being extolled Tuesday night, Rove, who was subpoenaed by the Senate during the height of the brouhaha, was overheard saying, "There wasn't a shred of evidence in those documents."

Rove's fingerprints are all over every dirty trick from the attorney firings to Don Siegelman's unlawful conviction. The day will come when Karl "Porky Pig" Rove gets his. John MCCain hates the guy for the slander and swift-boating Honest John received. John has it in for "Porky Pig." John has a memory like an elephant as to his tormentors, at least, even if he doesn't know one Arab from another. He even changes his own religion and wives, if necessary to further his career, but that's different, at least to John.

Congrats to Josh, a leader among journalists. Huff Post could take some lessons these days.

Oh this is so rich...so Josh gets an award, doesn't show up but Rove is there and has to endure the stares of everyone in the hall looking at him to see how he reacts. Congratuations Josh Marshall, looks like you got a two-fer!

Given the way Marshall has savaged the Clintons lately, I'm sure Rove has warmed to him.

Rove had better save his money, he will need it to pay lawyers trying to keep him out of prison. He thinks there is no evidence, but he is in for a shock. People talk, Karl, and you do not have the power you had before. Maybe not ALL the e-mails at the WH were destroyed. What a glorious day it will be when one of these criminals is sentenced to prison.

Let's hope they nail the slime-ball Rove on the former Alabama governor's politicly motivated prosecution. He's guilty of so much, like Sadam Hussein - they should be able to hang Rove on something.

Before they can hang him they have to accuse him of something. And that means accuse him in court, with lawyers and stuff.

HuffPo and Kos doesn't count.

Well, if HuffPo "doesn't count", Ramirez, WHY ARE YOU HERE!!

Sure hope Rove gets lots of visitors at his new home in Rosemary Beach, FL. It's a small community and it should be easy to find him and say hello.

You mean Darby's stuck with his little "Eggie Heaven B&B" down near Crawford?

Poor thing.

Josh deserves awards, Rove deserves prison.

Breaking news! He will be.

There's no point in charging him until AFTER the preznutz can no longer pardon him.

That is an EXCELLENT point.

Lots of innocent guys proclaim "there isn't a shred of evidence"

thats the first thing an innocent guy would say when accused of something -"there isn't a shred of evidence"
Keep living the dream gopers

In America if there is no evidence then the guy really IS considered innocent.

I don't think it's fair to compare Rove to Joseph Goebbels

You're probably right...Goebbels' family should sue...
