The New York Post's Page Six writes about yesterday's walk-off on Howard Stern, where sidekick Artie Lange stormed off the set after a dispute with his assistant:

Shock jock Howard Stern was finally left speechless yesterday after a brawl erupted inside his Sirius Satellite studio between his hard-partying sidekick Artie Lange and Lange's assistant, Teddy, which ended with Lange's quitting the show.

The bickering started off air in the morning, in the hallway adjacent to Stern's studio. Show staffers overheard Lange screaming at Teddy because Teddy asked him for his passport for the fourth time as he planned their flight to Amsterdam, which was set to take off last night. Lange told Teddy he should have photocopied the passport the first time.

Stern was told they had been bickering and brought it up on air. When Teddy came in to defend himself, Lange snapped.

"He's a loser," yelled Lange. "He's the most unorganized assistant. I want to fire him, but he has no money. I hope he dies of AIDS."

Listen to the audio here:

Long Island newspaper Newsday explains what happened when Howard Stern told Lange he didn't condone his behavior:

Stern then expressed his feelings on the situation, saying he cannot condone Lange's actions. The comedian, who has had a similar outburst on the air in the past, said he cannot guarantee he can refrain from acting out in the future. Upon hearing that, Stern said he cannot have Lange around with the potential of such actions looming.

Artie then offered his resignation; Stern accepted, but told Lange to leave and cool off. Just before Lange left he told Stern: "I'm not a good person ... I gotta leave ... I love you"

Teddy returned to the studio several minutes later and said there was overreacting from everyone, but did not downplay the seriousness of the situation.

To be honest with you, Artie leaving is not a big loss. I always thought he brought nothing to the show. He was neither funny nor clever.

So glad I don't listen to this crap. Stern Is a loser and so is this show.

Those who condemn Stern do not understand him. Stern is a wily master at appealing to the 18 - 49 male demographic. He has never shied away from the fact that he is after ratings, in fact he celebrates it, and conducts his show exclusively for that very purpose. Much of terrestrial radio has taken a nose dive since he left.

OF COURSE it offends people. That's the POINT. But behind the strippers and the excrement jokes there is a very real understanding of race relations in this country, seeing through celebrity BS, and interview skills that make me sick watching the likes of Larry King. He plays up staff story lines like a master. He is unique and I for one will really miss him when he is gone.

Wow! Is there anything less important to the grand scheme of things than this? Perhaps some things of equally little importance but none really less.

Sixteen seconds into this recording & I realized I DON'T CARE.

Howard Stern is one of the great mysteries of the universe to me. I am mystified how this man is able to make enough money to feed himself, let alone a fortune off of what he says. His is the humor of the pre-pubescent boys who snicker at crude little jokes. I guess Baram was right. No one has ever gone broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.

He is right up there with Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. None have gotten any of my money, and collectively, they have received maybe fifteen minutes of my time. If they are ignored, then they can't generate money.

Howard is incredibly entertaining for several hours a day (a very difficult feat.)

Not to your taste I can understand, but to lump him with hate-mongerers like Rush and Ann Coulter seems uncalled for.

Just for the record, it was HL Mencken who said that no one has ever gone broke underestimating the taste of the American public. Regardless, your point stands.

Artie needs to deal with his drug & alcohol problems & stop living an unmanageable life.

Listeners must be decreasing. Old media trick, create some new controversy. Hold a celebrity death match. It would be interesting to see how that works on radio.

Artie wants to die. Booze, coke, smack...now high fructose corn syrup. He's an angry, but terrifically funny mess. He will be missed...when he dies, that is.

I've been a fan for over twenty years myself. When I first moved to NY I had a job that involved a lot of driving and hit upon Howard by accident. It took me a while to figure it out but eventually it dawned on me that this was just a group of people hanging out together having fun and by listening you could be part of the gang. I didn't have any real friends when I moved there and it made me feel part of something. Plus I noticed as I'd pull up to a toll a lot of people would also have their radio on and be lauging out loud in their cars.
I am a lifelong feminist and sure some of the stuff is offensive and I don't enjoy. By and large though there is a reason Howard makes so much money and that is because it is the best talk show on the radio! Howard, Robin, Fred and Artie are all very intelligent people. Plus, Howard really knows how to keep things moving. I have sirius (due to Howard) and have listened to many talk shows and they are all boring in comparison.
I love Artie. I sincerely hope he gets his act together. Behind all the dysfunction and fat is a truly huge spirit.

Amen. He talks out of his *ss sometimes about issues with great authority, but at the end of the day he's highly entertaining, very smart, and a decent human being. And you can turn him off when you feel like it. But he's made me laugh louder and longer than anyone I can think of.

As for Artie, the boy's got issues. And he's not really that funny.

It's a start. Now, we just need to figure out how to get Howard Stern to walk off the Howard Stern show for good........he could take Imus and Limbaugh and Rhodes with him. Clear the air. The airwaves need a little chlorine, I think.

Well Rhodes is finally gone, soon the rest will be gone and then it will just be the coyotes, anastasiabeaverhousen and me,

For those of you that believe this was a bit, they(Sirius) pulled the replay out of regular rotation(probably never to be heard on Sirius again), never posted any pictures of the whole show on HowardStern.com, and asked SternfanNetwork to shut down for at least a few days. The only way Lange will be allowed to come back to work(pure speculation) is if he submits to anger management or some other kind of therapy. I don't see Lange back on the show anytime soon, if ever, as he hates therapy, but needs it , and has needed it, for a while. He has some serious demons. While I have been a fan of The Howard Stern Show for over 10 years, I disagree with Howard's stances more often than not, trying to keep in mind that IT IS A COMEDY SHOW, not to be taken so seriously. They make me laugh sometimes. That is all.

You know what would make these boys fel better?

Jennifer Steele and some bud.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:31 PM on 04/11/2008

That was just weird. You know these guys all make a ton of money, and to so stupidly not appreciate that fact and throw it away over something so petty is mind-boggling. Jeez--How do I apply for the job. I can guarantee I won't attack my "assistant," on or off the air.

When Howard has become the voice of reason on his own show it's time to channel surf.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:14 PM on 04/11/2008

he is almost always the most level-headed voice of reason on that show. either you don't listen much or you haven't listened much since about 10 years ago, when he stopped being totaly obnoxious.

Yeah, it's probably been at least that long. I started listening when he was on in the afternoons in New York on WNBC. I don't remember exactly, but that's gotta be what, 25 years ago? After listening regularly for about 15 years, I think I had enough.

The fact of the matter is that the Stern show is not what it used to be...goofing on a 56 yr. old retarded guy and a handicapped little person are a far cry from the incredibly funny and creative stuff that Stern did when his show was in its prime. Artie has clearly been uncomfortable there for awhile and the rigors of a morning radio show combined with his stand up career have been at odds for sometime. In recent months Artie has become the butt of the joke in the studio and his weight gain, addictions and sad personal life have been fodder for Stern, Quivers and interns to the show.

If Howard and the gang truly cared about Artie, they would have had an intervention for him a long time ago and urged him to go into rehab and straighten himself up...instead he has used Artie's dysfunction as a "bit" and has even said "What can I do? Artie's a grown man." Howard should have taken Artie aside months ago and given him a leave of absence to cleanup himself up and get his life in order, instead he continued to "pile on" and this is the result.
