NEW YORK -- NBC Universal named former "Early Show" executive producer Michael Bass senior vp strategic initiatives.

Bass will work on strategy for the company including content, international and digital growth, among other priorities. He will report to NBC Universal president and CEO Jeff Zucker said.

Among the events he'll be working on will be upfront strategy, cross-platform programming for the 2009 Super Bowl and local news coverage.

"As we continue to grow and become more of a global media company, Michael will play a vital role ensuring that we maximize opportunities and collaborate across all divisions," Zucker said.

Unless they start actually "reporting" the news, not reading the daily handouts from the WH, nothing will change. People are tired of being kept in the dark about the real events. Getting the news from the internet is the only way to go. All "big 3" newscasts are avoiding the real issues. Going for fluff. It worked for a while, but now people are finally catching on.
