America's getting another chance to rubberneck at polygamy this week without subscribing to HBO. The Texas compound of the radical, ex-Mormon Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) was raided by authorities after a pregnant 16-year-old girl secretly called a shelter, which in turn contacted law enforcement. The Fuzz managed to avoid a Waco 2.0 and were rewarded with the discovery of a consummation bed.

A Family and Protective Services investigator's statement about the raid said, "[T]here is a widespread pattern and practice of the ranch in which young, minor female residents are conditioned to expect and accept sexual activity with adult men at the ranch upon being spiritually married to them."

If that picture is legit, it's one of the creepiest pics I have ever seen. But there are certain areas in the U.S. and certain subcultures that also expect this, not just religious wackos in west Texas.

Say what?

The Texas Rangers met today with Dale Barlow, the supposed "suspect," and made no arrest? Perhaps because Barlow can prove that he has not been in Texas since 1977.

And the alleged 16 year old girl complaintant still neither found nor identified?

Damn, tell Wesley Clark to hold the tanks up; it's not quite the time.

But go ahead & take the women & children into custody, separate the kids from their parents, terrify all of them, & then make the whole deal disappear.

The MSM can be confidently relied upon to "make it happen."

So, here's what I'm not getting. Didn't this sect violate all kind of OTHER laws? Don't you have to 1. have your children vaccinated? 2.register a birth, along with the mother's age, name and place of residence? 3.register your kids for school or file papers for them to be in home school? 3. Have cement plants inspected for EPA violations, or work safety hazards?
There's all kinds of talk that Texas had no reason to conduct a search. I think that one of those other things should have led to a search warrant and it would have turned up, say, a 16 year old with four kids. A sixteen year old with four biological children should not be able to testify in court that the first ones, at least were concieved by consentual sex. I can't understand the reasoning behind the "We couldn't get a warrant" argument.

in parts of southern california, aging female comedians keep scores of young men chained in cubicles, forcing them to make up jokes and feeding them nothing but coffee for weeks. they sometimes venture out in extremely small cars that cause crooked bone development. they are occasionally seen in their trademark glasses and dockers pants trying to purchase small sundries with actual cash, confusing the locals to no end. . they don't talk about their constricted lives because they have such bad breath. the state of california refuses to step in until there are enough jobs in the motor vehicles bureau to absorb them. it's appalling. the main agnostic denominations turn a blind eye, fearing confrontation with some of the very powerful matriarchs involved. the utter absense of any sexual component whatsoever can be axiomatically presumed, leaving the authorities powerless to intervene. public awareness is building, however; as the botched deliveries, soft timing and gems edited out draw attention to these horrendous conditions in what- before the new washington took hold- was the funniest place in the world.

i think the right approach for them would have been to relocate to bel air, publish a dirty magazine with some interviews of minor intellectuals, cheesecake, and sports car ads, and invite a few has been leading men to pool parties. then they're an institution. as every moviegoer can tell you, sex trips in rural texas don't always go well.

Deja vu all over again, at least the women & children got out alive this time.

Let's see: An alledged call from an alledged 16 year old girl (not identified or found yet) alledging that she had been raped.

So the mighty givernment breaks the door down with the compound's men stand in a circle praying.

Do the women & girls rush out, exalting in their freedom? Do they "turn on" their alledged rapists & captors? Don't think so..

By the way, how is it possible that so many were forced to go elsewhere by the mighty givernment, most, if not all, not even "alledged" to have done anything illegal? If we use this simple logic, than if one member of the most Reverend Jeremiah Wright's "church" (sic) is alledged to have committed a crime, then givernment forces would be right in storming the Sunday morning service & taking everyone inside into custody? Right?

The most reverend Bevel, a leader of the Million Man March & one of King's right-hand men, was CONVICTED yesterday of raping his own teenage daughter 15 years ago.

Funny, no mention of this on the mighty HuffPo.

Is there any evidence of this? Any at all? (I'm completely serious)

You've got an alledged crime from a girl who can't be found naming a man so far neither identified nor found, & the givernment goes in & takes everyone into custody?

This parallells the Duke (lack of) rape case.

Boy! What a scam the angel "Macaroni" (sic) and "old Joe" cooked up. This is not a state of mind folks. It is child abuse and an abomination.

This is and always has been a scam about getting "young pussy" and nothing else. Remember you can't just yell fire in a crowded theatre and think you can get away with it.

Why we aren"t stringing up these bastards because of 1st amendment protections is way beyond me.

Besides catering to perverted old men, the angel "Macaroni" (I thought I was the first to use that malapropism) also brought mankind the very model of a modern, American, capitalist religion. To be rich is to be sanctified. Pray well to god, and pay the tithe, and you too will be blessed with wealth and prosperity.

WOW! The hatred of religion expressed here is frightening! In fact it reaches the level of insane ranting usually reserved for religious fanatics! What really bothers me though is that on this supposedly liberal blog there is no revulsion for the actions of the government. I suppose we should just all be thrilled they didn't burn the women and children to death this time. Instead they are going to rip the children away from each other and the adults they have grown up with in the name of child abuse. With a little luck they should create a couple serial killers, a pack of sociopaths and maybe even a mass murderer. Am I the only one who finds the government's actions reprehensible, in violation of the Constitution and just plain un-American? I am no fan of Warren Jeffs, but I fail to see the proof of imminent harm that would justify a massive invasion of this scale. What it does do is fuel and justify the paranoia that leaders such as Jeffs use to control their flock. If it is going to become government policy to disrupt religious communities who are offering no threat to others I think it is time we all start arming ourselves, maybe all those gun nuts knew what they were talking about all along!

I don't hear hatred at all. But I do hear revulsion. The difference is that some of us are reviled that there is the most sordid sexual and emotional control of minor children and that UT, TX and AZ have looked the other way and permitted it for so long.

In their defense, TX acted as soon as it had probably cause after this lawbreaking community was more recently installed within their borders. AZ and UT, on the other hand, have 100 year histories of permitting their existence and their abuse and neglect of dependent women and children.

If you want to construe that as "hatred" perhaps it's time to take a look at your own blindspots.

So, Mishagothe, I guess you have no problem with 50 year old men 'spiritually' marrying 13 year old children? Religion, my ass! This is nothing more than pedophilia masquerading as a "religion". What in the world do you mean "in the name of child abuse"? It IS CHILD ABUSE! To have a 13 to 16 year old RAPED by some old man who justifies it by saying "it's God's will" is the heighth of hipocracy. To saddle 13 to 16 year old CHILDREN with CHILDREN of their own is criminal and should be treated as such. Then, in 13 years when their CHILDREN are old enough for more raping by the 'religious' hierarchy, their 26 year old mother gets nothing to say about it! What in the hell planet are you living on??? Sorry, but I can't believe ANYONE in their right mind would be able to defend this. From what I am reading, all of the CHILDREN and their mothers ALREADY need psychological counseling from the life they have been forced to live.

You need to seriously take a look at your priorities here. They seem to be totally bass ackwards. Either that, or you need to crawl back under the rock where you've been living. I certainly hope you do NOT have any children of your own! Or, are you a Mormon, by the way?

No it IS religion, not "religion". It's just one of the many interpretations, one of many creations of man. But religion or not this does not give them any right to do that to children...

here's the diff Mort
and it's a big one
if i told my kids to take drugs, populate the World, or what ever
I'd own up tp it
take the
responsiblity
but the mormons like Glen Beck and all the others but you
have sold reason for faith
they come out like attack bees
which would be expected were i in your house or your compound, or even your church
but because of this faith thing, reason and intellect has no respect for them
they are morons
were i in their compound i would already have recieved my poision

but this is the world wide web
and you cannot control it
and theres no use having a meetin in the Temple about how you destroy me, like soooooooooo many others your church has

it's about culture Mort
and your whole culture is missed up and quick to judge
you guys your profit's (yeah i spelled it right)

Cut thoat
The Golden fraud
Kill your Uncle
And be a God

instead of wrecking my life, or half the mormons Mort
you should blessed it
you should say thank you
for not letting me get away with this !!!

here's the irony Mort
For you to be free to think, to serve goodness

You, The Mormon Church has to owed up to it

Good Luck
And i hope we meet some day
And see a loving God in our eyes when we do !!

meanwhile
the attack bee thing ain't working !!!!!!

Got it, bud. But my faith isn't about control. I believe God wants us to use our brains, get a good education and reach our full potential. There's no similarity between that and Jeff's cult of pedophiles. In fact, control isn't what the Savior had in mind in the first place. That was Lucifer's idea, and has come to be accepted by many instead of Jesus' gospel of love, understanding and free agency.

What Jeffs and his followers are doing is perverse, not to mention illegal.

The real story regarding polygamy, however, isn't so alluring....as we see pictures of the dirty old men who forced themselves on girls young to be their grand-daughers.

Actually, Big Love shows this...all the time.

Roman and Alby Grant (Fairly close to the Jeffs family) run "The Compound", where this kind of thing happens.

The protagonist (Bill Henderson) is simply trying to lead his life in the way he believes is right, and everyone there is voluntary.

Watch Big Love, and I think you will do more than blast it.....
