Former Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) is struggling a bit to adjust to life as a lobbyist. "I took the Metro for the first time," Lott told the Sleuth Thursday afternoon in the makeup room of MSNBC, where he and his new lobbying partner, former Sen. John Breaux (D-La.), were fixin (as Lott says) to do a TV segment....

"I haven't paid for lunch in 30 years," he joked. Breaux chimed in with an eye roll, saying, "Yeah, he's learning how to pay for lunch."

This is the problem with Career Politicians. They're professionally out of touch.

Another warmongering sleazy politician taking legal bribes.

It was a very good day for Republicans when Lott decided to leave the senate.

These people really give a new dimension to the concept of "assisted living".

Depending who you are the US really is a welfare state.

Among all of the other obscene things about our "public servants" this should be a story that informs everyone. How could these people even pretend to represent you and your interests? They are all in it for themselves. This man who is incapable of figuring out public transportation on his own or of even driving has been in charge of weighty issues facing our nation? Is it any wonder why we are in such dire straights?
The problem becomes how do we put the genie back in the bottle? Term limits for sure and also public financing of campaigns with any overage at the end of your term reverting back to the public coffers. No one should get rich by entering politics. We need to take that incentive away. Then we may attract true public servants who care about this country and its citizens and who want to make a difference.

Trent Lott Adjusts To The Real World: "I Haven't Paid For Lunch In 30 Years"

People wonder why our elected officials have no clue about what this country needs, here is a perfect example. I'm sure he didn't pay for many things, like plane tickets, hotel rooms, and vacations as well. Point is we need term limits because people like Lott get to DC and after 10 years forgets what it is like to pay for Lunch, pay rent, buy a plane ticket, or survive in the world doing things for themselves and paying for things like lunch. Besides maybe term limits will help with congress and the senate making the tough dicisions like voting against the wrong war rather then for it becasue they are afraid they will get unelected.

Replace Lott's name with McCain's, and I believe my previous post remains accurate.

Who cares about Trent Lott and John Breaux?

I wonder if old Trent Lott had his "boy toys" pay for his meals?

More reason for term limits. These Washington types have no concept of America. Kick all the bums out.

"Lott really had no idea how to even go about taking public transportation. He didn't know how to use the Metro fare card machines, or how much money to put on his trip ticket, or how to add money to one of the fare cards his wife gave him. Truly: clueless."

Now. Does anyone have any doubt that the Congress is out of touch with its constituents?

Yeah, this scum bucket had to retire prior to January 15, 2008 so he could avoid the "no lobbyist jobs" for a period of two years if you leave Congress after 1/15/08! Miraculouly he retired January 1. 2008. He's got plenty of money to buy lunch!

Repulsive toady. "I'm a man of the people now," said Lott. Yeah, right. I've spent some time on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and seen your BigOl'Mansion. So sorry it got a little bit of damage from Katrina which you could afford to repair (did the insurance pay handsomely?). Meanwhile, there are people & towns along the coast that will never recover. You are not one of them.

Since when are lobbyists "of the people"? I think you mean "of the corporations". Who owns you now, Lott? Didn't you "retire" early to avoid some kind of investigation into wrongdoing?

The practice of so many inside players becoming lobbyists after they're out of office should be stopped.

Your comments on Lott are superb. He is the poster-boy for the Republican's twisted view of "family values". Corrupt to the core. He should be considered a national disgrace. However, Republican supporters are too far gone from the propaganda they've been consuming from the lying, right-wing media deceivers to see the truth.

I thought he quit because of a looming gay scandal. It figures he is a republican after all.

VA, no apology needed. The more of us who tell the truth, the better. Although, sadly, I think we may be preaching to the choir.

Yeah Trent there are a lot things you haven't done in years but don't let the fact that you have been on your knees most of your life lead you to believe that you now have a grasp on reality.

And we're supposed to be amused?

If this is par for the course in Washington, it's long past time to set term limits.

Anyone who "doesn't drive" and hasn't learned to use public transport -- and who's spent decades as the lunch guest of lobbyists -- is far too out of touch with the real America to be in Congress.

Were Lott even remotely in touch with life as most of us know it, he'd be ashamed to admit these things, not telling them as if they warrant our indulgent laughter. He's been indulged far too much already.

I thought you had to wait two years before you could become a lobbyist after you left office? Did he get special treatment?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:02 AM on 04/12/2008

I wonder what kind of dirt was dug up on him to make him suddenly retire like that.
