The Dalai Lama said Sunday that "some efforts" at diplomacy were under way between his representatives and those of the Chinese government even as officials in Beijing continue to portray him as having orchestrated protests in Tibet that have led to a crackdown and violence there.

"Just a few days these are going on," the Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, said of the discussions. He said it was unclear what the talks might yield.

He would not say specifically what matters were being discussed, and he said he had not been directly involved in the conversations.

Western leaders have encouraged China to resume discussions with the Dalai Lama in the wake of the unrest in Tibet, which began on March 10.

Talkng about peace and humanity without compasssion is just lip service or in this case agitation towards violence. In front of your computer with hatred seething form your breath and sitting thousands of miles away from actual Tibet you want justice to be done. Those who have actually seen the Dalai Lama and are touched by his compassion then you should know that he does not call for the boycott of the Olympics or independence of Tibet or violence towards the Olympic Torch relay.
He is a follower of the Buddha. In the heart of the Budhha teachings is pointed out the state of greed, hatred and delusion being unwholesome activities. There are so much hatred towards China created not by the Dalai Lama himself but by the people who are ignorant about his intentions.
What he practice is universal compassion, not just selective compasion like a mother to her children but to extened that compassion to all beings of the ten directions. It is not just about showing compassion towards the Tibetians but also towards all beings suffering. How many in US itself who speak or write so voiciferous against China towards Tibet give a tear towards the suffering of the people in Iraq.
Don't create hatred this is not the purpose of the Dalai Lama, I am not a representative of him but people of the same compassionate heart speak the same language. Don't sow hatred, war and suffreings is what you wil reap in the future.

You paranoid or phobic Quintus? You seem to see PRC lackeys everywhere.

I would be extremely surprised if anything substantial comes out of these backdoor diplomatic efforts. Knowing the PRC and their leadership for what they are, this is an obvious PR stunt meant to fool the world into thinking that they are now (suddenly?) interested in dialogue with the Dalai Lama. More likely, this is a desperate effort on their part to salvage their reputation in the world (damaged recently by their extremely heavy-handed tactics in Tibet) and the Olympics in Bejing. I sadly don't see China ever giving in to the Dalai Lama's call for Tibet's autonomy. Hate is not too strong a word to use regarding their feelings for him. They are simply hoping for an early demise so that they can hand pick the next Dalai Lama.

Unfortunately, he has stated on numerous occasions that he plans on being around for another 10-15 years. Moreover, he has also stated that he will certainly NOT be reborn in Tibet (if he decides to come back as the 15th Dalai Lama.... not obvious), which simply means that the PRC will be unable to choose their own "fake" Dalai Lama.

PR stunt. through the voice of Dalai Lama?

Uh-oh. Another PRC lackey? So many!

The world knows the truth. That's obvious. China is clueless when it comes to Tibet and the Dalai Lama.

You should have been in Seattle this last Saturday when 60,000 people came to see and hear him. Are all of them mistaken? Has he managed to dupe them all?

If I typed in something negative about the "Dalai Lama" it wouldn't get posted here. Chances are this post won't make it through the censor's.
This place should change it's name to the Huffington [CIA] censored Post.

There will never be a greater opportunity than now for the Dalai Lama to do something meaningful for the Tibetan people. China wants very much to win the admiration of the world, and any reasonable request has a very good chance of being accepted.

But the issue of independence for Tibet must firmly come off the table for now and forever. But true religious freedom and cultural veneration and peace are within reach.

But there are people, in Tibet and around the world who do not want peace. They need an enemy to feel complete. There are too many people in the world who must hate Muslims, or Mexicans or Chinese.

I appeal to the Chinese Government to open their doors to the Dalai Lama and have direct talks with him. You can see he is a Bodhisattva guided by his compassion. He may have been taken advantage of because he is worshipped by many in Tibet and it is easy to use his name to create dissent.
He is willing to sacrifice his position and life if it mean bringing peace to China and Tibet. I do not doubt his sincerity. Communism may be for the good of the Chinese people as they will not be bullied again; their land wil not be taken away; foeigners will not pillage her wealth and rape her children; they will not be hungry anymore. But China communism must also show their compasssion and recognize compassion.
The Dalai Lama has openly declared he is not seeking independence for Tibet, he does not advocate violence from his supporters nor does he want to boycott the Olympics. Please have direct talks with him. When he dies the spirit of Tibet will die with him if the Tibetans choose violence.

Compassion, in the Tibetan Tradition, can manifest either peacefully or wrathfully. If one is truly a Bodhisattva, as it is said about HH the Dalai Lama, then all one's actions are performed for the benefit of others. If one is also a teacher, then all manner of skillful means are employed to facilitate the student's progress along the path to Full Enlightenment. It is said that for those students who do not respond to peaceful means (i.e., their mental obscurations are particularly dense), the teacher may employ more wrathful means to help them reach their goal.

The important thing to keep in mind that if one is truly a Bodhisattva, wrathful compassion is not anger or hate.

The best thing China could do is admit they are harmful to people and the environment so they could be embraced by the rest of the world These games are an ideal forum for making that known by all world leaders, athletes, journalists and their own people.
