The website Born Rich reports that Elvis Presley's 24-carat gold piano will soon be auctioned off for the first time. They write:

The buzz around this unique offering has set the international memorabilia world into a tailspin, as collectors are lining up to make their competitive bids. This one-of-a-kind piano is covered in 24-carat gold leaf both inside and out. No other details can be had regarding this upcoming auction but, we will keep you posted.

Although no one else has reported on the auction, if true, the sale won't be the first Presley piano to be put on the market. In 2007, a white baby grand once owned by the King of Rock 'N Roll was auctioned off on eBay. As the blog Luxist reported last August:

The piano's original home was in the Ellis Auditorium & Performance Hall in Memphis where such notables as WC Handy, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Cab Calloway played it. Elvis bought it in 1957 and had it refinished to his taste - white with gold trim. It was placed in the music room at Graceland, where it remained until Priscilla Presley presented Elvis with another piano as an anniversary gift in 1969. The piano was stored until 1976, when Vernon Presley sold it to Ted Sturges, owner of Sturges Recording Studio. There, it was used during the recording of over 50 albums by various artists including Jerry Lee Lewis.

I think Mariah Carey should buy the piano, as she is also a legend of her own in music. She already owns Marilyn Monroe's grand piano, who was also a legend icon. Especially with her recent defeat of Elvis for number one hits by a solo artist.

Such logic would have Paul McCartney defeat the very great, Ludwig Van Beethoven. A dead guy too! Mariah Carey is hardly recognised outside the USA, on the other hand Elvis Presley is, because of his outstanding voice, known everywhere, including Outer Mongolia :-)

I hope Mariah does purchase the gold piano, that news would also reverberate world-wide, simply because the piano once belonged to Elvis. :-)

The KING lives?

Elvis Presley played Ludwig Van Beethoven's beautiful "Moonlight Sonata" on his grand piano. Elvis was often photographed playing pianos. This historic instrument will surely generate a lot more publicity for Elvis's wonderful music. Elvis lives indeed!

Elvis and Company.

You know it in your heart,
Now know it in your head,
Elvis followed Beethoven,
And joined the lesser dead.
They do no doubt endure,
Because of song and score.
Along with Michelangelo,
And Socratese of yore.
Just think of those who"ve passed,
Like Leonardo . Gone.
But you never see the last,
Of names that just live on.
Mankind mourns their like,
All of the lesser dead,
You knew this in your heart,
Now you know it in your head. MC.
