Campaign AdWatch: Pennsylvania Yells At Obama

Illinois Senator Barack Obama gave a talk about Pennsylvanians recently and used elitist code words like "cling to" and "bitter" because he's out of touch with non-hopemongering Earthlings. And Senator Hillary Clinton heard those words and got angry and shot some ducks because she hates "elitism." Hates it, hates it, hates it! So she took some of the millions of dollars she loaned herself to cut a campaign ad with a bunch of Pennsylvanians who wanted to yell at elites, too. Surely, all of the people in this advertisement will be invited to join the Clintons for high tea at their large homes or on their next all-expenses paid trip to Democratic contributor Richard Friedman's Cape Cod estate. (Which comes with a pet pig! Read all about it!)

In keeping with their established campaign rationale, subsequent Clinton ads in the states of Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut, South Carolina, Utah, Iowa, Georgia, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Delaware will feature residents apologizing to Clinton for not being important enough.

Hillary's a bum. If Obama wanted to he could make a hundred commercials spins about her:

Lying in Bosnia
Whitewater
Being a young Republican
Not doing anything during Rwanda
Not doing anything during the World Trade in 92'
Promising jobs to update NYC, and failing
Failing Healthcare
Promoting NAFTA
& more...

But he doesn't, because he would rather take the highroad then stoop to her negative tones that she is displaying.

Elitism is thinking the rules are for the "little people," not themselves.

For example, agree to obey party rules, then run unopposed in Michigan and Florida primaries, then complain that the Michigan and Florida voters are being ignored.

Out of touch is coming to Philly and choosing the stairs over the boxing match to make a point about "going the distance."

Elitism is believing that the small states don't count, therefore the people in the small states have no value. Its also making 109 million dollars in 7 years and having a Library named after you.

Using the "Talking Point" that Clinton has several million dollars has NOTHING to do with an ELITIST perspective.

There are many wealthy individuals who have achieved financial wealth, and wish that dream for others who have not - George Soros, Warren Buffett, JFK/RFK, Jay Rockefeller to name a few.

Elitism is an outlook, not how much money you are worth.

The writer of this piece knows that, but is just continuing the SPIN to soften the blow for Obama's unfortunate condescending attitude and outlook.

ot the amount of money you have accumulated over the years.

In the rare event that no presidential candidate receives a majority of the electoral votes, then the President is chosen instead by the House of Representatives, from the top three presidential vote-getters in the Electoral College; each state delegation in Congress casts one vote.

Democrats are on target to screw up, in order, to keep Clinton quiet, let's let Hillary run in OH, NY, NJ, FL, MI, and in PA, if she wins in PA. Let Obama run everywhere else. And let's throw this thing into the House.
Where she can make the ultimate SuperDelegate argument.

"If he gets it into the House, a Democrat is going to win the presidency, because they have the votes pure and simple," said Mario M. Cuomo, the former Democratic governor of New York, who is noncommittal on the presidential race at this point.

After the second 3 am ad (which i thought was an april fools joke) and now this one, I got to ask myself, is Hillary really on our side?

By our side I mean Democrats.

How many more eons before the Pa. primary. I'm so-o-o exhausted listening to all this stuff. If we focused on the issues and not all the rhetoric maybe the next Pres would actually help us gun-toting, bitter, hicktown, blue collars. Bill Maher should have a "New Rule":
" A Presendential candidate is only permitted to discuss the issues. Anyone caught dissing his/her competition, dissing voters, or bowling should be exiled to Kenya for the duration of the campaign. Drinking shots & boilermakers is acceptable, though...They do say a person's real feelings are exposed when consuming alcohol!! So,what the fruck!! "

These folks need help..

Gas is $3.40 a gallon and another 50 killed today in 'the surge is working Iraq'.

If they are that happy, the're part of the problem and not the solution.

Personally, I think someone would have to be pretty desperate to help Hillary with her
politics of personal destruction...

So, when these people face hard times, they don't look to their faith in God for support? I don't really understand the gun comment, but I've never owned a gun. However, I do see people look to their religion for support and blame trade and immigrants when they face hard times.

I have a question: If Hillary is trying so hard to show that Pennsylvanians aren't bitter, why do the people in this ad appear to be so bitter? Couldn't they at least have smiled?

There's only one way for PA to prove who they really believe is correct - and that is with their vote. They need to prove to their own Governor (Rendell) that they aren't racist, and prove to Hillary that yes, her husband's administration and the Bush administration DID leave them behind. If they want change, they'll vote for Obama. If they like what has been happening, they'll stick with Hillary. The rest of us just have to stand back and watch or donate to whichever cause we believe in. And let's all hope the Canadian government finishes their probe into which candidate really caused Nafta-gate, but since they outsourced it, it might not happen before the PA primary:

Whose estate was Barack on when he insulted middle America in the bay area? Notice the silence around that fund raiser from all the good and noble Obama followers. In the interest of full disclosure give us the names as we asked Chaney to do with his secret energy buddies.Maybe we should get off our "holier than thou" horse and be real.

Just sort of a typical Rove type attack ad. Bill and Hill probably consulted their new supporter "Rush"

Progressives should not jump to defend Obama for his anti-American worker comments. I am not a Hillary supporter, but Obama played to some of the most anti-working class biases of his liberal elite audience in attempting to keep them on his side in his battle with Hillary over electability. His remarks were much worse than those of Reverend Wright. He insulted all of us. Most blue collar workers are not even Reagan Democrats and most Reagan Democrats are not a bunch of know nothing rednecks who cling to guns and religion because they are economically disadvantaged. Their form of religion is not evangelicalism and, for the most part, they are pro-labor and moderate Democrats. As for gun ownership, although the right has taken over the NRA, that doesn"t mean that most gun owners and supporters of gun ownership agree with the NRA. It is a sport they enjoy and also, deep down, a protection against government if it becomes totalitarian.

Obama screwed up big time here. But progressives are screwing up even worse by acting like Pavlov"s dogs and screaming that what he said was true. You are making it impossible for those of us who are progressives within the labor movement who organize blue collar workers and discuss politics with them to seriously argue that progressives are our allies.

Having said that, his Annie Oakley remarks were hilarious. It's clear from her background she's a character from Little Hosue on the Prairie.

So what is your alternative? This is a clear case of having to go with the devil you don't know rather than the devil you know. Surely you know that doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result confirms your insanity. And, to twist one more cliche "Come over to the dark side."

The characters on this commercial look like washed out actors, or hostage victims coerced into reading lines. They look like losers. If those are the swing votes Hillary is after, let her have them.

If you aren't pissed off about how the middle and working class have been treated for the last 14 years, you aren't paying attention.

Clintons STARTED this project of outsourcing and off shoring of American jobs. They want to continue to do more of the same with the Colombian Free Trade deal, remember Billy PAID 800K to push the deal... how come nobody asks about that? With all the CFTA stuff going on around Hill with her hubby and Penn, how could she NOT know what was going on? Another case of OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY. Maybe she's just like Bushie? Makes her OWN reality?

Sorry Hillary. Some of us poor working schmucks are actually bitter and do not mind admitting it.
Some of us are so tired of being beat up from being left behind we are bitter. Not all of us are ignorant,or thoughtless or reactionary. I worked really hard to get your Husband elected- twice.I now regret it. That pie in the sky promise you both made to lift us up left us flat. Now after 8 years of Bush, subversion of the constitution, a war that is bleeding us dry and now your own political epiphany, you want us bitter people to elect You? Shotgun Annie drinking beer and slammers?
No. It is said better the poison you know than the one you don't. I disagree. You will get no vote from this little guy just trying to make a living out here in the rust belt. No Hillary. No.

When you are tired or troubled, please see Senator Obama's speech conceding New Hampshire. It has inspired such creative work and continues to strike a cord of common humanity, unlike anything I have ever seen in the political world. (My first vote was for Robert Kennedy.)

It looks like part of this ad was filmed at Dickinson College and I'm wondering about the mindset of a campaign that films an anti-elite ad at an expensive, private liberal arts college.

Hillary's latest ad proves one thing -- not all of her supporters are morbidly fat.

I cling to my childs hand when we cross the road. When I was laeving to go to war I clung to my mothers hand. Have we gotten this stupid to make this an issue. Or is it the same thing every four years the real elite get us fighting about crap that means as much as a tick on a bulls ass. I really do get bitter gasing up my Ford Explorer and having to stop at half a tank because I ran out of money.

Ed Rendell started this big thing about the word bitter and clinging. Now that he sees that it only has legs in the media on shows like Morning Jerk and Fox . Now he says its really no big deal. This priceless stuff.

I thought at first that Rendell was giving a little less support to Clinton on this, but I changed my mind. If you look at Hillary while Rendell was making these remarks, she looks smug and content. I think the whole thing with Rendell is cover for Hillary to keep being ugly. On the one hand, she tries to destroy Obama's chances of getting elected and on the other Rendell comforts the super dels that it doesn't matter if she's mean because see, he'll win here anyway. I think it's a trick to win ugly without having to take political responsibility for acting that way.
