PHILADELPHA — Hillary Clinton is hoping the "Colbert bump" will help propel her to victory in Pennsylvania.

The Democratic presidential candidate will make her first appearance on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" on Thursday. Both Clinton and Colbert have come to Pennsylvania ahead of the state's hard-fought Democratic primary on April 22.

Clinton rival Barack Obama also is in Pennsylvania, but has thus far declined Colbert's invitation. Obama's wife, Michelle, will appear on the show Tuesday.

News of Clinton's visit was divulged Monday night in Philadelphia by MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews. He blurted it out during taping of the show at the University of Pennsylvania's Zellerbach Theater. The news was confirmed by a person close to the satirical news program, who insisted on anonymity because the date of the visit hadn't been publicly announced.

Comedy shows have played a role in the presidential campaign, and good things have happened to guests on "Colbert." Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was a regular on the show before his unexpected _ but short-lived _ success in pursuing the Republican nomination. And a "Saturday Night Live" sketch was credited for helping Clinton gain momentum in February.

I guess she figured, "I did the Daily Show, how could it hurt?" She has no idea, does she...this is going to be beautiful.

My guess is that the audience will be a bit harsh on her if she knock Obama. Unless they screen the audience, which is something the Clintons are used to doing.

Colbert has not been a shill for Hillary. He has made fun of her a lot. Sometimes I think he is for Obama. Then again, I haven't liked it when he says stupid things about Obama. Cuz....that's the way I roll. So who really knows how he feels?
I know how his supporters feel, though.

Celebrate The Democralypse!

When Stephen Colbert ran for president, supporters donated $66,000 to South Carolina classrooms in his honor. Do Senators Clinton and Obama have the keystones to do for the Keystone State what the Colbert Nation did for the Palmetto State?
The Stephen Colbert Pennsylvania Straw Poll That Makes A Difference

Given in honor of Barack Obama
$153,845 by 2209 donors, affecting 31950 students

Given in honor of Hillary Clinton
$29,043 by 315 donors, affecting 8378 students.

I have followed this closely since the start, and consistently, the patter you see here has held true.
84% of the money is from Obama suporters, who make up 88% of the donors.
The Obama supporter puts out an average of $70
The Clinton supporters held strong with an average of $120 but are now down to an average of $92.
Because...they are rich elitists?
Well, it is a great cause. Colbert should ask her why her supporters hate helping public schools. I hope he nails her, but I bet there are "agreements."

It's clear Colbert has been shilling for Hillary. I don't watch him or Stewart anymore. I think their getting paid to be on her side along with SNL. Hmmm, what group controls most of the media?

Are you kidding me?! Colbert is CLEARLY an Obama fan, and just because Stewart had Clinton on his show does not make him a Hillary-supporter: he's been MUCH harsher on her than on Obama. And I say that as an Obama supporter (Vote Obama!).

Their articles are like nothing I have read in any of the current media outlets. It is brilliant writing plus it offers a great community in which to discuss. The editor actually takes time to answer and the political humor section is awesome!!!

Hillary goes on tv everytime she is behind in the polls - she's a master manipulator -

I watch both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert nightly - but tonight, I will watch only his opening and take a sleeping pill - I will not watch her, when I can't even stomach her soundbytes on the news.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:20 PM on 04/15/2008

It's not really master manipulation - I'm pretty sure every Democrat knows and understands the power of television. And certainly she's not the first Clinton to capitalize on it.

I was just told she's not on tonight - so whenever it is she plans to be on - I will be sure to watch something else.

Michele Obama is on tonight and Hillary on Thursday.

OH... forgot.

Chris Matthews is a wiener.

...but evidently Hillary had no relish or enough mustard, cuz she refused so far to do the Hardballing with Mathews there in PA....Obama and McCain both have made their appearances...both got some soft balls and a few hardballs as well..Nice when the "audience" gets to ask the questions...well, for the most part if done without total contrived presqueenings !!!

I trust that Colbert will be fair with Hillary, which means he needs to ask her how she can rationalize staying in the race when she has no chance of winning it legitimately.

sorry, Hillary! You are no Mike Huckabee. Now that guy has comedic timing!!!

Yeah, she'll probably uncomfortably joke about sniper fire like on The Tonight Show...Sorry Stephen, I won't be watching tonight....no thanks.

Did she see Colbert at the WHCD? That was awesome.

Too bad he'll probably give her a pass, and she'll come across "charming" (or likeable enough) as she did on Stewart's show. All those body guards and security measures etc. will probably intimidate even Colbert

Darn.

Actually, giving her a pass would in fact be an insult. Since his character is of the O'Reilly-esque right wing pundit with delusions of grandeur, being civil to Hillary would suggest that the "in-character" Colbert sees her as a Corporate Democrat, i.e. "close enough"...

I thought she came off as dull, with a touch of smug, during her brief appearance on TDS. I don't think I've ever seen her charming, & I tried for awhile to like her.

American politics is a serio-tragicomedy. What better benchmark than a Giacamo dressed in a suit and specs. Colbert is satire and anyone who believes otherwise just doesn't get it.

Obama was invited as well, but declined.

I think Hillary will do fine on Colbert. She's quick. She'll keep up with him. Now, I'm guessing that Obama declined cause they'd have edit out all his 'pauses' for time constraints. He's be no match for Colbert. His supporters say all that pausing is 'thinking'. Why is it not 'calculating'?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:06 PM on 04/15/2008

True. When Obama doesn't have a speech written for him by his very young white speechwriter, he is terrible.

Did you see him at the Senate Hearings. He didn't know what he wanted to say so he couldn't get it out -- convoluted, run-on sentences. And they were questions already asked. it was obvious he had not done this often, was grandstanding for the public. HRC, on the other hand was calm, cool, collected and she knew what to say and what to get out of Petreous.

Also, what's with all the flags around Obama. On TV there were dozens including one on the podium. They travel with him now -- this after he said that a flag pin, or hand over heart for the national anthem was not proof of patriotism. He is a fraud, hypocrite. He is what he's been waiting for since his corporatist admen AND former Clinton advisors got a hold of him -- so much about change -- Tom Daschle, his guide through the Senate and campaign -- and Ted Kennedy, Casey, Kerry, Dodd, etc. for him -- they are among the longest running Senators.

Didn't she go on the Daily Show right before the Texas and Ohio Primary? She's running out of shows that young and witty viewers frequent! And running out of time and states!

Oh maaan. I rarely miss a Colbert segment, but I have to look out for my blood pressure. Every time I see Clinton, it spikes so high I have to mute her.

I know what you mean! I've had to avoid hearing her speak because she makes me so angry that I fear for my (physical and mental) health. I've started hating the color yellow. This is really getting out of hand.
