"Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon sat down for an interview with "Good Morning America" today and talked about her breast cancer scare a year and a half ago. She found a lump in the early stages, had it removed and went through radiation. Nixon is speaking out now, after staying quiet at the time, to encourage all women to get their mammograms. She also discussed how her girlfriend Christine Marinoni reacted and how she told her kids.

The headline here is breast cancer.

Nixon in her Good Morning America interview tells of her completely routine mammogram, admitting that she was on alert to likely getting breast cancer because her mother did when Nixon was twelve she always sort of thought "I probably going to get breast cancer there"s a really good chance.

Nixon was right, there probably was a good chance she was going to get breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society About 182,460 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2008. About 40,480 women will die from the disease this year. The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about 1 in 8.

Cancer must not be an expected stage of life, while the focus on the cure is absolutely critical we must also expand our focus to prevention where there is less cancer.

I am not going to judge this woman on her choice. Its her business, not mine. If this is what works for her, and they are happy, who gives a damn? This is a fine actress with real talent, ability and the rest is irrelevant. I am sorry to hear she is battling breast cancer, but knowing this woman as the tough gal she is, she will beat it and has so far with grace and dignity. Bravo Cynthia, keep up the great works.

Sorry PC police -- I still get grossed out by the really butch looking dykes. Cynthia is attracted to THAT?

I mean - it doesn't matter if it is a man or woman - that person is gross..... boy - girl - whatever.... it's gross.

Referring to a person as "that" is gross. Really.
And if you are that concerned about whether someone appears attractive to you, then consider how unattractive you appear when you gratuitously refer to a person as a less than human thing.

You should only be so lucky as to find love and be a public figure and NOT receive a blog like the one you wrote. Or to put it another way, have a neighbor publicly judge how your loved one physically appears. it's not the PC thing it's the humanity thing. Think!

Wow, you get "grossed out" by looking at certain lesbians? That's a pretty extreme reaction. Maybe you should talk to someone about why you react so extremely to these women.

I wish people would leave gay & lesbian couples (like Nixon & her girlfriend) alone. Homosexual couples are no more right or wrong than heterosexual couples. And, they certainly experience enough hardships, without our judgment on why they're attracted to each other. Who cares? They're just human beings, trying to make a close, caring relationship work (which is what many people want...). Anyone with some sense would wish Nixon & her partner well, and leave their unfair criticisms of this ongoing personal affair at the door.

it's good to see her outside of her SATC role. I haven't seen any interviews or newsprints about her, so I had no idea she was gay. But, hey, more power to her to be able to talk about it candidly, I think that is very admirable, and good for her for bringing a different point of view on breast cancer. The fact is, is that early detection saves lives, she's right, if it was bound to happen, better to have happened the way it happened to her, and good for her for sharing her personal story in hopes to inspire other women out there going through the same thing so many before have been through.

This is a woman who is revealing how how breast cancer is treatable and is not as devastating and considered a death sentence upon diagnosis.
Not long ago, the word treatable not a word that a woman would hear when she was given her diagnosis.
The more stars who come out and share their stories, the more hope women who have to face this in the future will have.
As for her lesbian partner, she is blessed to have someone who she loves to share her life and children with, and who supports her through her journey as she faces the breast cancer treatment.
It was 14 years ago I lost someone special to breast cancer. Back then the word treatable was not used.
Now is used and enables a woman to manage and live with the disease and be cancer free.

Like I said, the more the famous women share their stories, those who will be taking the same journey will be more educated and at ease by just hearing about their journeys.

Hey, this is a society that entertained the idea of Donald Trump copyrighting the phrase, "you're fired." The whole concept of copyright infringement has been perverted by big business lobbying since its inception. It was never intended, originally to be this all encompassing.

A prize to the first media outlet that talks about someone having cancer without calling it a "battle" or telling us someone died after a brave battle with cancer. Hooray for original thought.

It is a battle. I lost my brother-in-law to pancreatic cancer, which is one of the most painful and hardest to diagnose. This big, strong Vietnam vet became a shadow of his former self in less than a year. It ages you, it weakens you, and it kills you as brutally as any combat injury.

Roses for Ms Nixon and I'm glad she's doing well.

When someone has cancer, their body fights it. Modern medicine helps the body fight the cancer with drugs and/or radiation. The person fights to defeat the cancer and to live through it. If that isn't a "battle", I don't know what is.

I love Cynthia Nixon. How nice to hear her intelligent, honest analysis and explanation of this challenge to her and her family. Given the neo-cons reign these last so many years, I appreciate intelligence and honesty so much more now. What a breath of fresh air!

Rosegirl: Thanks for the chuckle.

The blogs are great but when someone tears down a beautiful support position for a healthy alternative family that struggles again the odds (despite wealth) it turns my stomach. Don't bother exposing you're bile as comment, not funny in this day and age.
