The New York Times reports on the CMT Awards' skit featuring Obama, McCain and Miley Cyrus.

In case you missed the Country Music Television awards last night, you missed an unexpected -- and hilarious -- skit involving John McCain and Barack Obama dialing up Miley Cyrus, who plays rock star Hannah Montana on a popular Disney Channel show.

The premise? Senators John McCain and Barack Obama need tickets! And since Ms. Cyrus was the co-host of the show, well, you know, they just thought they'd ask.

We can see how Mr. Obama might have been roped into the skit. His daughters Malia, 9, and Sasha, 6, fit right into Ms. Cyrus' preteen, glitter-loving demographic. That doesn't, however, explain why he offers her the Treasury Secretary job.

Watch the video.

miley cyrus as treasury secretary? that's no more far-fetched than, say....obama as president!

Seriously folks, could she be ANY WORSE than the Bushies?

Cute and funny bit of humor. The girl from Saturday Night Live OBJECTS? I think maybe some Clinton supporters may be feeling bitter.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing!

I think an Obama/McCain run is going to be clean. A Clinton/McCain run would be pretty ugly. We already have a taste.

Cute, very cute! I'm glad Obama and McCain have such great senses of humor.

Ms. Montana would be a fine alternative to Hillary; she listens to her Dad who's a fine Progressive. Perhaps in 2012 we can finally put up a serious candidate in Ms. Montana.

That doesn't, however, explain why he offers her the Treasury Secretary job.

Because he already offered Hillary Duff Secretary of State.

Couldn't be any worse than Bush's posse.

And really, I think Hannah (correct spelling) can probably handle money a bit better than Hillary...who doesn't seem very adept when it comes to getting money or holding on to it, or paying bills.

Why does he offer her the treasury job? Have you seen the value of the dollar lately? She couldn't possibly do any worse!

Anyone who can get people to pay $2500,00 to see them lipsynch might do a pretty good job.

LOL! That's exactly what I was thinking! Offer the Treasury Secretary job to whoever is managing Miley Cyrus' career! We'd have a surplus within six months!

Judging by the headlines, this of course is suppose to be a joke? Ugh

It's actually a fairly smart way to get free television time. Not only does it get played on the original broadcast, it gets replayed on various news shows. Then it gets put on the web and people watch it there.

All that exposure and it didn't cost the candidates a dime.

it only cost me my dinner and about half a roll of paper towels

Lighten up! It was suppose to be funny... Gosh, since when can't human beings - even those running for President - shouldn't loosen up make a sweet joke!

You guys are way too serious... This world is in a funk. Our economy is destroyed, but life still goes on. Heck, let's make the best of our moments and smile a little bit. Obama and McCain were both cute! Especially Obama!

not bad. much as i want mccain beat by obama in november, mccain has more honor than hellary--by a longshot.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:58 AM on 04/16/2008

Tejano1 you are right, McCain has more honor then Hillary.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:33 AM on 04/16/2008

She does lack personal honor. The Bosnia-gate story speaks straight to that deficiency. If McCain weren't pushing for 4 more years of supply side economics and 4 more years of disaster in Iraq... Those are two huge 'IF(s)'! I really hope Obama pulls it off.

I can see why. It's this thing they call a joke. It's kind of silly, but hey, it's about as funny as anything SNL attempts to pass off as humor these days.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:02 AM on 04/16/2008

Well her tickets are worth more than the dollar is, maybe we could run the economy on them. They keep their value at least:)

I thought a little humor break was timely, frankly. Good for both of them.
