Bush To Pope Benedict: "Thank You, Your Holiness. Awesome Speech"

Pope Benedict XVI became only the second Pope to visit the White House, and he gave a speech about the purpose of his trip and the importance of democracy being informed by moral values. In attendance was, of course, Bush. The President must have been extremely impressed by the Pope's words because right after Pope Benedict concluded his remarks, Bush leaned over and said, "Thank you, your holiness. Awesome speech."

What would motivate the Pope to visit G. W. Bush? Pt 6

I have been pondering this question consciously and unconsciously since the headline, "Bush greets Pope at airport". People at that level of stature deign to meet others only where there is an agenda to be served. What is the agenda of these men?

The pessimist could say, that the Pope, being a clever CEO of one of the largest "corporations" on the globe with revenues and assets that are the envy of GE, Sony, Viacom, and News Corp, knows how to plan for the future of his business. Being at least as clever as this humble penman, he sees an opportunity to the net new big revenue for his corporation. While many top executives negotiate their deals on golf courses, in casinos, or at exclusive resort conferences; the Pope cannot exercise these options. But unlike most CEO's, he can easily go tete-a-tete with national leaders. If the Pope conceived the pessimist's view of Bush long before arriving in Washington he could have conceived of the following: for a chair in the Carlyle Group, the Pope would guarantee that he would make the finest character witness, if ever needed in the future. That would add some major $$$ to the bottom line of the Roman Catholic church for years to come and make this Pope's tenure memorable to at least church insiders.

I have been pondering this question consciously and unconsciously since the headline, "Bush greets Pope at airport". People at that level of stature deign to meet others only where there is an agenda to be served. What is the agenda of these men?

The pessimist could say, that Bush, in the back of his mind, is fearful, that in the future, the World Court in the Hague could be preparing an indictment a la Milosevic. There has been a great deal of talk of such a possibility. Should that happen, then if Bush were to leave the US territory to attend a $10 million speaking event in Paris in 2010, he could end up with an unexpected deter to the Netherlands (that's also called Holland, or the Lowlands Mr. Bush if you're checking a map). Now if such an event lies in the future, who would be a better character witness for the defense than the titular head of the Roman Catholic church!

I have been pondering this question consciously and unconsciously since the headline, "Bush greets Pope at airport". People at that level of stature deign to meet others only where there is an agenda to be served. What is the agenda of these men?

The skeptic could say that the Pope, knowing the history of the Roman Catholic popes since the year 400, has recognized that much benefit has accrued to the church by those popes who have used more aggressive measures to spread the word of the church. While the pope, may recall some of his youthful training in Germany, he could be looking for a refresher course from today's premier specialists in aggressive techniques to "spread their philosophy and brand" to the world. While the Catholic church has had some strong success in growth in parts of the globe, it has been a losing battle in some of their "root nations". The White House leadership and staff will be preparing resumes in the next few months. This is an opportunity for the Pope to get in on the ground floor to screen new hires with these specialist skills.

I have been pondering this question consciously and unconsciously since the headline, "Bush greets Pope at airport". People at that level of stature deign to meet others only where there is an agenda to be served. What is the agenda of these men?

The skeptic could say, that Bush, is attempting to do to John McCain, the titular Republican candidate, what he did in the S. Carolina primary in 2000, hurt him bad. Yes, he did stand with McCain a month ago and give him his blessing. But, in 2000, he stated that McCain was an honorable man, to his face, then spread mind poisoning lies about "black babies" in the southern states, behind his back. Where is the parallel in 2008? If one contends that the bible belt, religious right are still a foundation of the Republican party, could this meeting hurt McCain? Well, if you are aware that many of the loudest and most influential leaders at the pulpits of the religious right are strongly anti-Roman Catholic, what is going to be the message at this Sunday's sermon? Is the fact that the Republican leader today embraced the Roman Catholic leader one that says, "We can trust the Republicans to do the right and moral thing for us!"

Bush is an idiot, and probably didn't understand half of what the Pope said.

However, as far as I am concerned, neither of them deserve any respect or admiration from anyone. Bush is a war criminal and the Pope should be in prison for having been a Nazi, and then for having run the part of the Vatican WHICH HELPED HIDE THE PEDOPHILIA RING AND RICCO ORGANIZATION KNOWN AS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN AMERICA.

He was the head man during the previous Pope's reign, and as such, he knew everything and helped hide all this. For the life of me, I do not understand how the legal system of the United States has permitted all these Bishops, Archbishops, Cardinals, and everyone in between to go their merry way, on having sheltered these criminals. Had any teacher, physician, or private person have assisted and protected child abusers in this way, they would have gone to jail. THE FACT THAT THE GOVERNMENT HASN'T PUNISHED THESE PEOPLE IS SICKENING.

I have been pondering this question consciously and unconsciously since the headline, "Bush greets Pope at airport". People at that level of stature deign to meet others only where there is an agenda to be served. What is the agenda of these men?

The same optimist could say, that Bush, in his last months, seeks to add to the history book notes that he is a man of peace, not war. As such, he seeks headlines with persons and places where peace is the message of the day. Bush did "start" a new Israeli-Palestinian peace process recently, right. Why not add the meeting of a leader whose messages from St. Peter's balcony is always one with a peace undertone or overtone?
