NEW YORK — The praise of Mariah Carey couldn't rescue Kristy Lee Cook from elimination on "American Idol."

The 24-year-old resident country singer from Selma, Ore., was the latest casualty as the Fox sing-off narrowed the competition to six finalists.

Though guest mentor Carey said Cook's rendition of "Forever" gave her chills, Simon Cowell was not so impressed.

Brooke White and Syesha Mercado joined Cook with the lowest number of votes on Wednesday's results show. When asked to predict the loser, Cowell said: "Maybe Kristy _ you know, your time's up this time, sweetheart."

Cook cried but took the eviction in stride. She directed her reprisal of "Forever" to Cowell, who grinned awkwardly.

The telecast also featured performances by "Idol" also-ran Elliott Yamin and Carey, who sang "Bye Bye" from her new album "EMC2."

I feel that Kristy Lee will do well in Nashville, and Idol gave her a GREAT opportunity.
I still cannot believe that Michael Johns is gone. He is a GREAT talent.
As a viewer, I am tired of hearing Brooke and Carly with their whining, and talking back to the judges. Get a grip ladies.
The object of Idol is to come up with ONE winner, which means one will be eliminated each week.

This program gives all these talented contestants a chance of a lifetime !! Be grateful.

Good Luck to the TWO Davids.

I couldn't wait for her to be booted off. Good riddance, indeed. After that cheesy America song, I was really annoyed with her.

I want David Cook to win. I like Jason Castro, he does have talent and a certain style, but David is the total package.

Jason Castro reminds me totally of David Garza, a singer/songwriter from Austin/Dallas. I saw him play many times around U.T. in the late 80's / early 90's. (Twang Twang Shock a Boom included.)

NEW POLL IN MICHIGAN: BARACK OBAMA IS THE BETTER CANDIDATE AGAINST MCCAIN.

Barack Obama leads McCain in Michigan 43 to 41% with 8% undecided, but Hillary is losing to McCain in Michigan 46 to 37%. Barack Obama is clearly the Democrats strongest candidate against McCain in the general election. I copied and pasted the poll below, and the Link is here:

Monday April 14, 2008
LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- A new poll shows Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama doing better against Republican John McCain among Michigan voters than Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The poll by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA shows 43 percent of the 600 likely voters polled back Obama, while 41 percent back McCain. Eight percent say they'd vote for independent candidate Ralph Nader, while 8 percent are undecided.

McCain leads Clinton 46 percent to 37 percent. Ten percent say they'd vote for Nader and 7 percent are undecided.

Fifty-nine percent have a favorable opinion of McCain, while 55 percent feel that way about Obama and 45 percent about Clinton.

The poll was conducted April 3-8. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Although she had done better in the last two weeks, I had a feeling she would be the next to go.
I canot abide Brook. She is so phoney. It was good to see her squirm for a while last night.
There is no way Johns deserved to go before either Kristi Lee or Brook.
At least Kristi Lee made it to the top ten. This means she will get to go on tour with them.
These kids will probably make more money that I will ever see... I hope they have every blessing.

Actually the top 10 really weren't that far apart. I actually think Brooke and David Cook have the best chance of selling a lot of records, or is it itunes now. Brooke just needs to get to someone that can help her overcome a few minor weaknesses that can be overcome with vocal technique and training. Then get confidence. Syesha sings slightly out of key quite a bit, and would have been my choice to leave several weeks ago.

I think it will pretty easy to "market" Jason Castro.

He's not the greatest singer in the world, but very easy listening.

and he definitely has THE LOOK. That kid will sell.

David Cook FTW!!!!

not to be mean, but honestly, it's about time!

I really think the other girls will going over the next few weeks, with possible exception of Carly.

I hope the final two are The Davids - with David Cook for the win. He is ready!

Little David A. needs to go do Broadway for a few years and break free from his dad's control.
he'll be great once he gets a little life experience in him

I absolutely agree with you . . . last night little David stated he has never been happier . . . probably because he finally got away from his Dad, and on his own.

If Broadway is smart, they will snatch this kid up. As for David Cook, whether he stays or whether he goes, he is already a huge success, like Clay Aiken. Clay, though goofy and nerdy compared to David, really made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck whenever he sang - just like this David Cook. He has been one of the most successful Idols, too, in terms of record sales.

More importantly, after last night, David Cook is already one of "my idols".

if Kellie Pickler can make it in the Country Mkt., I'm sure there's room for Kristy

Brooke has a voice with the potential to stand out and sell albums. When she goes, I go. Actually, I thought Syeesha and Carly are the most annoying, and should be next. The two Davids are over-rated. A sad commentary on the state of American popular music- particularly the inexplicable popularity of Mariah Carey. Talk about "one-trick pony"- she doesn't sing or write songs- she does gymnastics with her vocal chords and convinces people it's music. Not so...

When this season started, I didn't like Kristy Lee Cook at all. But as the season wore on, she got better every week. I did squirm when she did God Bless the USA, a jingoistic little tune that represents all that is wrong with patriotism, but otherwise, she got better each week. There are no bad ones left. They all have merits, but it will come down to the two Davids.

It's about time! I don't know why she lasted this long. I was glad to see her go, however I actually liked her song this week. I am a huge Mariah Carey fan, so this week I was particularly critical of the performances, but i did actually like her version of Mariah's song. But, I still thought she should have gone ahead of the remaining contestants on the show. But, now that she's gone, I can't easily pick the nest week's loser. The remaining 6 are evenly matched, I think, and I will be sad to see any one of them go.

Kristy is very lovely, Johns was gone before all of these girls, that is the fact.
Brook should have gone before....
So next week Brook, then Shayesha, then the Irish girl , then...

Last three should have been Johns and the other two Daves.
So much for voting process....

I really thought that Brooke was a goner last night. She's a one-trick pony IMO. I'm actually surprised Kristy Lee lasted this long, she must have a good fan base as some of her performances were atrocious, although she's improved lately.

What's to wonder about . . . Kristy had good looks, and that is all. If she makes it in Nashville, that does not say a lot about Nashville.

I totally agree with you about Brooke . . . at least she has toned down the "cutsie" stuff. But, boring! Again, her good looks keep her there. NOW . . . for the part about talent. With David Cook and David A. and Carly . . . watch out . . . it won't be long before the house comes tumbling down on all the "good lookers only" group . . . you know, the ones who have been in the bottom 3 - but got saved by the "but she is so cute" vote. Their time has come! FINALLY!

I can't believe she outlasted Michael Johns.

She will have a singing carreer in Nashville. No doubt. She is a healthy good looking young lady, and has a great voice that needs some training but she easily can come up with a hit.
