PHILADELPHIA — Barack Obama was greeted by the largest crowd of his campaign Friday night in Philadelphia. Some 35,000 people jammed into Independence Park to see the Democratic presidential candidate, four days before this state's crucial April 22 primary.

Frank Friel, director of security at the Independence Visitor Center, made the official estimate.

The crowd exceed the 30,000 who greeted Obama and Oprah Winfrey in December in Columbia, S.C.

Obama told the crowd the United States is at a crucial moment in its history, much like what the founding fathers faced in Philadelphia.

"It was over 200 years ago that a group of patriots gathered in this city to do something that no one in the world believed they could do," Obama said. "After years of a government that didn't listen to them, or speak for them, or represent their hopes and their dreams, a few humble colonists came to Philadelphia to declare their independence from the tyranny of the British throne."

The Illinois senator called Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton a "tenacious" opponent but said it was time to move beyond the politics of the 1990s.

"Her message comes down to this: We can't really change the say-anything, do-anything, special interest-driven game in Washington, so we might as well choose a candidate who really knows how to play it," Obama said.

There is a proportional formula when calculating likely elector counts. Although the specific multiplier differs according to region, you can generally see the proportional difference in votes by taking the total NUMBER of people who have contributed in a region and multiplying it by 5 - so in an area where one candidate garners 10 times the donors, he/she will likely get a 10 percent difference in votes. Likewise there is a proportional formula for votes based on attendance at similar events.

What we are seeing is the rise of the involved electorate at levels we have not seen in more than 45 years. These are voters who contribute, who go to rallies and who take others to the polling place with them. These are the voters who are taking their futures back from the MSM and the lobbyists.

Who exactly are all of these people? Obama has drawn massive crowds for many months now and yet they don't seem to translate into wins.

Personality worshipping ineligable high schoolers maybe?

The Gospel according to Barrack. All of these massive crowds he attracts and he still cannot win the huge states. Are there really that many white men in America?

All of these huge states and Hillary still cannot win the nomination. All of the huge advantages Hillary started with - money, name recognition, a presumption of a coronation - and she still cannot overtake Obama's lead in delegates, states won, popular vote count, money donated. Are there really that many African-American college students wearing Birkenstocks, drinking lattes, driving their Prius to the caucus?

35,000!!! Holy cow!!! 35,000. And almost nothing in the MSM... a mere afterthought. Let's just step back and ponder this - when, in any one's memory, has any candidate for elected office mobilized so many people? I for one was stunned by this number.

We can't have a rock star for president.

More importantly, we can't have a pathological liar for president.

As a registered Democrat in Florida (you know, the place where my vote doesn't count) I feel cheated that I haven't been able to see Senator Obama campaign in my state.

While all these contested primaries are exciting to follow and the debates are insightful I still am feeling cheated as the Fl primary will not count and WAS CONDUCTED UNFAIRLY....

I truly hope that following Pennsylvania and a hopeful Obama win, it will further cement the mathematical impossibility of a Clinton nomination and bring our party back together and attacking Grandpa McCain...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:54 AM on 04/21/2008

Yes, I hope so too. I am a Florida voter and while I knew my vote was not going to count, I nevertheless was excited to cast it - in this historical race. Just think about it, the first time a political party has nominated a black man and a white woman - truly unbelievable. The FL fiasco can be blamed squarely on the republican state legislature, where the democrats were coerced into agreeing to move up the primary date in order to gain provisions in the voters registration bill. We'll have another chance in November.

I'm sorry things happened the way they did, but you guys need to make sure you get that Republican out of the Governor seat when the time comes for re-election. I wish everyone could see Senator Obama and Michelle Obama, they are both amazing. I don't know what happens if Hillary drops out, maybe Obama still goes to the remaining states he hasn't visited, including Florida and Michigan. This way you guys get to decide if you think he's a good choice over McCain, even if you were originally a Clinton supporter. I know you wish your vote counted, however, there are people who wish they could take their HIllary vote back. You may be luckier than you think.

If only Shrillary supporters could spell....wouldn't it be great? Wouldn't it also be great if they realized that the last time we elected a President who didn't know how to manage money (CLUE: Campaign), we ended up $3 trillion in debt. I really don't understand how anyone can vote for someone who can't manage his/her campaign. I just don't get it.

Well, Let me say what he's not...he's not a corrupt politician waiting to get back into the Oval office. Please be aware, I'm pro-Clinton,,VERY PRO-CLINTON, but I'm not voting for her. I've had enough of the fear-mongering, and the racial fear-based politics. I live in California and she won this state...I'm from NY and was supportive of her Senate win, but frankly, I agree with Michael Moore...This is more about the Obama-movement, not just about him. Believe me, he's gonna have so many people over his shoulder that he's barely gonna have a chance to use the restroom, much less put this country in the toilet the way the Bush Administration has. So, when you think about this, as you say "Blind Followers", ask youself if you were behind Hillary when she blindly followed Bush and Cheney and voted for the War in Iraq without consulting David Kay and the weapons inspectors...That's the very definition of "blind-following".

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:30 PM on 04/21/2008

If by 'blind' you mean "fully aware of what has been happening", totally. Anyone watching knows Hillary messed this one up all by herself. And Obama conducted himself very respectfully and thoughtfully.
I just realized it, there's another Republican characteristic you are exhibiting -- when you can't argue the issues, the substance, it goes to name calling. That's where you find yourself. I'm sorry you've become one of 'them'.
Om, shanti, shanti, shanti.

No, my friend, our eyes are wide open, and we are not in denial. We know that it is time to put our efforts toward becoming unified and defeating the republicans.

She can't do it. Fight as she might. We don't need a fighter. We need a leader.

Go vote for Billary, the patological liar who blindly voted for the war, supported NAFTA, is involved in Whitewater... Do I need to continue?
Maybe she can hire those snipers from Bosnia and catch Bin Laden. If she promises to pay them. Else the collectors will come after her ... But can she uses her own money to pay them off maybe...

pleeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzeeeee right back at you. Only an idiot believes that the masses are duped by a saint or messiah. Only a bitter and deranged person thinks this is th eonly possibility. Barack Obama has th emost pledged delegates, he's the nominee of the Democrratic Party. Hillary and her supporters are doing their best to undo what has already been done. Get over your smug self.

Unfortunately, this has as much likelihood of being picked up by MSM as her comment about working class whites ("Screw 'em"). Thanks for sharing it, although it didn't change my opinion of her at all.

Bye, Bye, Shrillary....

Be careful you guys and gals...the source is Fox News, who has recently decided that after Jeremiah Wright and Resko and Michelle Obama's not proud to be an American suggestion, that they'd rather run against him than the Clinton's who has vetted their garbage already.

So, if this is verifiable and true, Great! It confirms more sleaze about Billary...but, if it's just something that Fox is publishing NOW, to get PA voters to think twice about who they elect and where they pull the levers (remember, it's proportional within the state as well, and Barack has to win in areas where the delegates are large numbers, not just close the gap in the electorate).

This is not a newsflash, this is par for the course. It is also that the so-called media doesn't do their job because the Clintons scared them off at the beginning of the campaign with their "the media is unfair" whining. She still won't do Chris Matthews.

THREE WORDS: GLOBAL POVERTY ACT Youth of America will PAY!
Obama wrote the GLOBAL POVERTY ACT this would commit 845 BILLION dollars of the US's money and all of it would go to some U.N. Millenium that would of course probably do what is often done as in the OIL For Food program: They stold the money . Obama's bill would require the President to give up this money in according the the U.N. Millenium rules. We would be committed to giving up this money that could be used for creating jobs, or giving our citizens health care for 8 years people regardless of any increased economic problems, wars, ect in our own nation.

Is Obama is trying to legislate his churches Nonnegotiable commitment to Africa with our taxes? Information towards the middle and end of the following youtube on the program.

Please pay extra ... lots extra if you vote for Obama so this money is not taken from the working poor in our nation... We need to make our own country's foundation strong.

Grow up, oh and BTW, you're a Republican, talk about the good your party can provide.

Hmmm...the tone of your posts & tactics aren't very much in the spirit of Jesus, WWJD2. Politics aside, Jesus isn't petty, snarky, dishonest, destructive, mean-spirited, hypocritical, ignorant, etc; but these qualities are everything you display and promote. It's OK to disgree with people, but how about living up to the expression you claim to embrace, instead of standing on your false platform of self-righteousness (unless WWJD stands for something else, of course)? Or maybe you're an agent of the antichrist falsely representing the Prophet? We've been warned about this type of thing....H
