The morning after last Wednesday's ABC Clinton/Obama debate, Don Imus called Obama "almost a bigger pussy than she [Hillary] is."

Imus is not alone in seeming to want to give Obama, who indeed looked like a seething wimp, a shot of testosterone. The brother of Bill Ayers blogged that Obama's response to Clinton's McCarthy-esque attempt to blacken Obama by marrying him to Ayers (for anyone who hasn't heard, Bill Ayers is the former fugitive, unrepentant bomber, and friend and neighbor of the Obamas) should have been: "Have you no sense of decency....at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?" a reference to the best lines of the Amy-McCarthy hearings in 1954 from Army lawyer Joseph Welch as he destroyed the Wisconsin senator.

In this campaign, the oft-used word is not "decency" but "shame," most forcefully deployed by Hillary, before the Ohio primary, when she sounded like everyone's worst memory of a maternal rebuke. "Shame on you, Barack Obama!" she thundered. The scolding was prompted by an Obama flyer hitting Hillary's support of NAFTA during her husband's administration. Her White House schedules, released later, backed the flyer's charges.

Post debate, Bill and Hillary are attacking Obama for "whining" about the debate--Obama, for once, took most of the tough questions--and Hillary is using the famous Harry Truman line, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." She adds, presumably for those who don't see her as the model of domesticity, "Speaking for myself, I'm very comfortable in the kitchen..." (Last week, while promoting herself as a gun lover and a church go-er, Hillary was asked, "When was the last time you hunted?" Not relevant, she answered. "When was the last time you went to church?" Easter, she answered. No reporter could or should ask her, "When was the last time you cooked dinner?" But a reporter might ask her to explain what she means by "comfortable in the kitchen.")

In an attempt to remind audiences that she has White House experience (a line decimated by her lie about taking sniper fire during a trip to Bosnia in 1996 accompanied by her daughter and by two entertainers), she has been telling voters that she knows how much stress the President experiences. She was there. She lived it. She survived it. She adds that if Obama thought those questions from George Stephanopoulos and Charlie Gibson were difficult, wait until he's hit with the real thing.

Obama's response could be: Bill and Hillary Clinton were under the most stress--unbearable, dangerous stress--when the news of Bill's affair with Monica Lewinsky broke in January 1998 and impeachment resulted; a self-inflicted, self-indulgent wound that occupied the last three years of Clinton's presidency and made him, in effect, a one and a quarter term president.

The rookie Senator from Illionis could pledge to voters that the pressures of the Oval Office that he'll experience will relate to the huge challenges of domestic and foreign policy. They'll have nothing to do with the terrible tensions caused by trysts with an intern--the humiliating details of which were published for the world to read--or by the breaking of marriage vows--in the Clinton case, apparently, the vow that Bill would do nothing to damage Hillary's turn to be president.

I support Senator Obama for all of the right reasons. Not that I am brainwashed or crazy. I do not support Hillary for all the right reasons.
But here is my most outragous reason to dislike Hillary.
I think you baby boomers will agree. I have looked at pictures of myself in leisure suits from the early 70s'. I looked like a pompous fake shithead with long meat market hair.
Hillary wears nothing but leisure suits to this day.
Hillary looks just like a fake from the 70s'!

Hillary goes down and dirty, so Obama ought to do so too... and that will show the world how
America picks the leader of the free world?

What a damn stupid, ignorant assertion. Even before Clinton took the oath of office Bob Barr announced his intent to impeach Clinton.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:38 PM on 04/20/2008

If that is true, and it is, then how stupid, reckless and self-indulgent was Clinton to give the likes of Barr the red meat (excuse the pun) that he gave the Republican attack machine? And not only was Clinton's behavior (on much more than Monicagate enhanced by his enabler Billary) reckless, self-indulgent and contemptuous of all those who trusted him to use his political capital for those most in need instead of to save his political hide, but he compromised national security. See Gordon Thomas' "Gideon's Spies: The Secret History of the Mossad" as the Mossad had--and may still have--a deep cover agent code named "Mega" in the White House or NSC and, according to Thomas book and several other sources, the Mossad had Lewinsky's phone bugged long before Linda Tripp cam out and was blackmailing Clinton to call off the FBI mole hunt (which he did) and to give Mossad asset Marc Rich a pardon which he did.

I never liked Kool-Aid--not anyone's

Let's hope that Obama, like the Chicago Tribune editorial writer, will refuse to denounce his friends. Whenever candidates and the rest of us can no longer make that minimum act of courage our democracy is in grave danger. Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorne are my friends. Gordon Quinn

Carol, you are right....for Obama to stay cool, which surprisingly enough I've never seen anyone take that much bashing and turn it around. He is perfect for the country....and Hillary knows how ' stable', well-termpered he is. That's why she keeps bashing, no man would have to do that, her way. She has a temper worse than McCain. Obama also has insight and foresight, the Clinton's do not. That's why they surround themselves with all their friends to soften the blow, they can't handle crisis without them every step of the way. If you check Arkansas days, the Clinton's were the same way....impulsive, argumentive, defiant, loud, bullish and truthfully childish. They really haven't grown up. They brought Arkansas with them into the WH.

Regarding the NAFTA question on Tim Russert's debate, I'm very surprised media has not straightened this 'leak' out. They know what was said to Canadian Embassy, so does Hillary, the Clinton campaign was the one talking to the Canadian Embassy with a 'conservative' operative plant in embassy to Conservative P.M. Stephen Harper...'chief of staff' , the prime minister (televised) apologized to Barack Obama for the untruthful, distorted and manipulated statement's when Embassy spoke to Obama, on the senate floor. Check it out on CTV News in late February.

This is another lie the Clinton's manufactured, spread to the embassy....can you imagine? How playing games with other nations?? Is this a National Security Breach, when inciting certain 'falsehoods' against Canada there wouldn't be any harm? This is the Clinton Machine. Same Old, Old, Old, Clinton machine. Disgusting, something a "Leader', wouldn't do to win an Election is it??

a private contractor with initials very similar to
those of the British parent company that owns

it's the same.

I've been researching Hillary for years, but lately I've run across so much of her illegal past 'deal's for 'campaign financing', It overwhelms me. some official doc's are www.judicialwatch.org, has some very recent illegal cases with both Clinton's. California Court, also subpeoned is Ed Rendell, knowing the details of this case he brought business to Clinton years ago. Should be interesting. If Hillary did win, this case would be delayed once again with any action on a sitting President, as it did with Bill Clinton for many of his crimes. But Rendell has been a cohort and friend of the Clinton's for a few decades.
The reason the Clinton's think they have Puerto Rico won is because their own shameful 'pardons' on a terrorist group FALN....here's a partial list of what FALN did.......
* bombed the Fraunces Tavern in NYC in 1975, killing four, injuring 54
* bombed five other downtown NYC buildings in 1974
* bombed the Merchandises Mart in Chicago in 1977 and many more to mention
Documented and 'pardon' given to all members upon Bill Clinton's exit from the WH
These problems arise when Hillary declare's righteousness on issue's that were / are appalling. It is a problem because Bill Clinton is a problem and would be a problem in the WH. He's dangerous and she is also. This is the hypocrisy. Bill Ayres and the weatherman underground have similar problems. Many politicians and elected officials have 'circumstances they have to answer.

So Obama's past is out of bounds but painting Hillary with something Bill did is legit. She did attend the NAFTA meetings and was against it. If you must bring up the Clinton administration how come you don't mention the balanced budget and paying down the national debt. Obama seems to be a real fan of Ronald Reagan and Michelle thought he was our greatest president. Reagan stopped the cost of living increase for retired military and civil service employees but was afraid to include social security because there were too many votes to lose. He honored the nazi war dead and wonder of wonders he "saved" social security by making it taxable. I can see where the Obama's might love a man like that.

U kidding right? Ms. Clinton touts her expierence in WH as she not Bill was the President. She thus opened the door herself to be questioned on that record.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:58 AM on 04/21/2008

Yes, painting something Bill did IS legit. You seem to use the tactic attacking, wrongly so I may add, something that Michelle Obama never even said. You are WRONG on the NAFTA meetings. Every piece of evidence out there, including her released schedule, shows that she attended and conducted meetings to PUSH NAFTA - not oppose it. Other evidence shows that Hillary wanted NAFTA put back on Bill's agenda so that she could push her own agenda issues. This "opposition" wasn't of NAFTA itself, but opposition to the White House's effort to prioritize NAFTA over what she wanted on a different policy matter. Hillary has been quoted the NAFTA was a "good thing for America".

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:35 AM on 04/20/2008

Your news has been run through the Obama filter. First he said she did nothing in the administration now he says she was attending the NAFTA meetings and now YOU say she was pushing NAFTA. She was against it because she thought it would detract from her health care plan.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:32 PM on 04/20/2008

You misunderstand the comments Obama made regarding Reagan. Google them and practice a little reading comprehension.

Claiming to oppose NAFTA after campaigning for it is a weak argument to make, especially since she's surrounded herself with pro-free trade lobbyists, and her family fortune has been made with pro-free trade "consulting" fees. Can you imagine how much more of money they will make once Bill has his insider knowledge refreshed with direct access to the White House? Please, whatever her public service record, it's tarnished by questionable ethics and vague morality. If Obama weren't in the race (and winning it) perhaps we Dems would be tempted to hold our noses and make another Faustian bargain, but we've got options this cycle, thank goodness.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:24 AM on 04/20/2008

You put your finger on the biggest negative of the Clinton campaign -- Bill Clinton with insider access in the White House. This is a disaster that won't wait long to happen, should Sen. Clinton actually be elected President. An additional disaster will be Bill Clinton acting as an unelected co-President, with no established law or precedent for Congressional or judicial oversight. If anyone thinks the Clintons won't take advantage of that sort of tactical triangulation, they haven't been paying attention.

First, he wouldn't survive if he mentioned Lewinsky. They'd trot out Chelsea who'd hammer him for using such a trauma in her life political. What he should say is in Hillary's stressful White House, they passed welfare "reform", and NAFTA at the behest of the Republicans and praised their contract with america. He should ask how someone who opposes free trade hires a free trade lobbyist to run her campaign. He should ask on what grounds she challenged all those African American districts in Texas

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:27 AM on 04/20/2008

The reactions of Chelsea to Lewinsky questions in her carefully controlled appearances, as something that is only a personal family matter, shows she has acquired the arrogance and sense of entitlement of her parents. The Lewinsky scandal was something that caused misery for many people as Clinton's political capital to do some good for those most in need was wasted on saving his political hide. Plus there were national security implications with the Mossad bugging Lewinsky's unsecure phone and recording phone sex sessions and then using it to have a mole hunt for a deep-cover agent code named Mega called off and to secure the Marc rich pardon (see "Gideon's Spies: The Secret History of the Mossad" by Gordon Thomas.

Plus what was the role of Clinton's libido in creating conditions for the likes of Bush to be able to steal an election or two? And what misery and carnage has Bush et al brought?

We might add banking deregulation and the Federal Communications Act to Bill's list of follies. There are many others. Much of what he did set the stage for the economy we have today.

Carol

It isn't only the Clintons' WHITE HOUSE stresses that were self-inflicted, it's also Hillary's current campaign stress that is largely self-inflicted. I think Obama would be better advised to speak of the more recent self-inflicted wounds than those of the Clinton WH.

Her campaign strategy was to continue the race while throwing the kitchen sink and wait for him to self-destruct. "If we give him long enough, he'll do himself in, but not me -- I'm already vetted." Apparently what she didn't guard against was her own self-wounding, mostly in the form of lies. She apparently doesn't think being caught repeatedly lying is very important though. She's also done herself in with nasty ugly campaigning, which is all the more glaring when Obama doesn't consistently respond in kind.

If Obama would play by her old rules, she might beat him hands-down and win the nomination. But he isn't playing by her rules, and she ends up tilting at windmills because he isn't there -- he's running way ahead of her.

She never had a chance as long as she was unable to comprehend the kind of political race he was conducting, and now it's too late, even if she does see it.

For the world to see. That didn't even cause a ripple in world news but London papers did say America has a plan to pay off their national debt. Of course the republicans, who Obama said had all the ideas, squandered the surplus.

Hearing nothing, I will suggest that the Plan is to
Keep Cutting Taxes. No more Gas Tax, No More
Capital Gains, No More Inheritance Tax. Once the
point is reached when Taxation becomes entirely
Negative, the Government will be paying each of
US an annual sum, based on income, of course,
with the Wealthiest each receiving the largest pay
ments of course (Fair is Fair). Then the Resulting
Income to the Government, which will be Huge,
will be used to pay of the National Debt, in the
Blink of an Eye. This income will come from the
simple fact that the US Government will owe Each
& Everyone on the Planet a Whopping Sum, and
this (as Accounts Receivable) will be considered
an Asset & the basis for further loans from Everybody!
That's the Plan, pure & simple. I'm Not Mad, I Tell You!

Finally, someone is saying what I've been trying to say for a minute. The Clinton's problems were mostly self inflicted, from randy bill to secretive and pompous hill. Hillary, looks at the world from a lens of either with me or against me. That's the exact mentality exhibited by George Bush. This election has also revealed that the Clintons are brilliant tactians but not very good strategist. Hillary thrives in survival mode. She needs battles to succeed. She's unable to pick her battles, but loves to fight. The problem with people like that is they're loose cannons. Always fighting and winning tactical battles, but never driving real changes, because they've alienated people in the process.

Obama speaks of something that transcends that. Hillary started her campaign as the person to fight the vast right wing conspiracy. That was her MO. Barack started his campaign talking about hope and change and building a working majority to drive real change. This was inspite of the fact that the democratic base was very angry with the republicans and wanted a dirty street fight. It takes leadership to channel that kind of energy to drive and believe in a working with the old foes. Hillary called that false hope. Obama calls it change we can believe in. I'm sold....

I just finished the Bernstein bio of HC, and he says pretty much what you said (only it takes him a lot longer and it cost me 12 bucks for the book).

The "survival mode" comment is right on. They stick together in crisis, but the rest of the time she is haughty and dismissive (of both Bill and the "little people" like the staffs of the WH and the governor's mansion). He is dependent and submits to her almost constant humiliations. And he is resentful of his dependency on her, and acts out his resentment by messing around with other women. It is one of those ugly and vicious marital circles. Bernstein says that she saved his campaign in '02 and also his presidency by going on tv and defending him. Of course, in the process, she had to make his mistresses seem like liars (not what a REAL feminist would be doing).

There was a GREAT leader in yesterday's paper that asked how people can actually believe any of Hillary's promises, but especially her one for universal healthcare, when she was in arrears in paying the premiums for her own employees!

See how she would handle the pressure.

Thanks for someone finally saying it.

Obama is doing just fine - he's the frontrunner and he does not have to get down in the dirt with Hillary - if Obama does not win at least he will walk away with his dignity - he started out with intergrity and he'll leave with the same -

Hillary and Bill are unhappy playground agitators who when are hit with some of their own dirt will scream, cry and yell fowl and pretend they are the victims - we've all seen that when we were children -

Hillary's female supporters are not able to stomach a fair fight between Obama and Hillary - so Obama has the right strategy - Obama will do just fine when it's McCain v. Obam
