Obama Praises McCain, Clinton Responds

Barack Obama gave rare praise to the idea of a John McCain president during a town hall event in Pennsylvania Sunday:

"You have a real choice in this election. Either Democrat would be better than John McCain. And all three of us would be better than George Bush," Obama said.

"But what you have to ask yourself is, who has the chance to actually, really change things in a fundamental way?" Obama asked as he wrapped up a town-hall style event at Reading High School in central Pennsylvania.

Sen. Hillary Clinton fired back at her opponent over the comment, while tying it in to her general critique that Obama cannot fight hard enough to win the election. Ben Smith reports:

"We need a nominee who will take on John McCain, not cheer on John McCain, and I will be that nominee," she said.

Of course, Clinton had a similar moment of praise for John McCain's experience earlier this campaign season:

"I have a lifetime of experience I will bring to the White House. I know Senator McCain [the presumptive Republican nominee] has a lifetime of experience he will bring to the White House. And Senator Obama has a speech he made in 2002."

So this is from the same Clintons that praised McCain a few weeks back right?

Just checking...

Are the Clintons bi-polar? Or do they have multiple personalities?

Obama can"t win in November even if he is more then just a giant talking head with an impressive speech writer, he can"t get the votes. News flash for the Obama supporters they don"t do caucuses in the general elections., and red states are labeled red for a reason!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:35 PM on 04/21/2008

Obama supporters are not seeing the big picture. The bloggers are so intent on bashing Hillary about her looks and her clothes or insulting other democratic supporters that support Hillary they have forgotten the real race starts in November. Obama has only won in states that are red or that have caucus rather then ballot voting. The problems that Obama will face in November will be the fact all the voters will be heard from, not just a handful of voters that had time to attend a caucus.

This is illustrative of one of the major problems in HRC's campaign. All the contradictory/bizarre/easily disproved statements are making Hillary and Bill seem as though they have gone nuts.

Hillary Rodham Clinton should submit to a psychiatric evaluation if she wants to continue this farce of a primary.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:40 PM on 04/21/2008

"We need a nominee who will take on John McCain, not cheer on John McCain, and I will be that nominee," she said."

What DRUG is she on? This is just insanity. The Senator will say ANYTHING. Wow...

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:30 PM on 04/21/2008

This hypocrisy of this woman just boggles the mind!!!!! It's really true that Hillary Huckabee will do and say anything to try and win. How sad ... how desperate!

And here was Bill commenting on McCain and Hillary:

"She and John McCain are very close," Clinton said. "They always laugh that if they wound up being the nominees of their party, it would be the most civilized election in American history, and they're afraid they'd put the voters to sleep because they like and respect each other."

I'm glad to see that Clinton thinks we need a candidate who will take on John McCain instead of cheering him on. I expect retractions of her previous statements to follow. She can start with that "Commander in Chief test" comment.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:00 PM on 04/21/2008

I guess according to Hillary that McCain is not any better than Bush but McCain is better than Obama. So that means she thinks Bush is better than Obama. Now why again is she in the Democratic Party?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:58 PM on 04/21/2008

The in your face hypocrisy of this woman is astounding.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:58 PM on 04/21/2008

There's a difference between impliedly endorsing McCain as opposed to Obama as Hillary has done and saying that McCain would not be quite as bad as Bush, as Obama said. The Billary campaign's earlier implied endorsement of McCain makes her latest critique the most cynical sort of hypocrisy. I hope that it's transparent enough for people who have not followed the mudslinging to notice the contradiction.

This is what "Throwing the china" looks like. It's best to just go to your room, lock the door and turn up the headphones.
Bill and Hillary are going to throw the everything in pantry against the kitchen wall and then set it on fire.

"If you can't stand the heat, the flying china, the smoke, the ballistic can of split pea soup that cost $3.95, then get out of the kitchen. No really, get out of the kitchen, the fire and police departments are on their way over right now."

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:51 PM on 04/21/2008

All sane --and former Clinton lovers/ admirers have reached the only rational conclusion: HIL AND BILL ARE NUTS....! NUTS....! NUTS...........................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just glad his mom didn't have to live to see this mess. She'd no doubt be back on the sauce.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:44 PM on 04/21/2008

Has she gone completely lost it? As her husband said in referencing her Bosnia gaffe -- "she's 60" and that basically she just forgets. SHE SURE DOES!

1) She repeated the following line over several days starting the day before Texas -- "I'm qualified, John McCain is qualified, and Barack Obama has ONE speech!". This was frankly when I cried and felt she went to a place I could never support. It was the main example of her willing to throw the Democratic Party and American people under the bus in order to push forward her agenda of winning at all costs.

2) She also forgets about her whining ("I always get asked the first question") and Bill's whining ("they're gangin' up on the girl") and Bill & James Carville's MAJOR cry-baby remarks ("Richardson is a Judas" and "he owed something to the Clintons"). If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen!

She really has lost it and is forgetting more than just whether or not she was under gunfire (I'm sure we all forget those if we were ever under gunfire, right? -- but of course, MSM would never call it lying).

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:41 PM on 04/21/2008

There are two things I don't like about Hillary.

Her face.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:39 PM on 04/21/2008

Brevity is the soul of wit - Brilliant! !!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:42 AM on 04/22/2008

Wow - just when I think she can't possibly say anything MORE ridiculous than she already has.

Does she think no one -noticed- when SHE was all over praising McCain?

I mean...that one is just too obvious, it defies reason. Much like the Bosnia flap, where the proof to the contrary was so in your face that you had to think she was crazy to say it.

Too bad the MSM are so in her pocket they wont run clips of her praising McCain then saying she won't. LMAO

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:38 PM on 04/21/2008

Tragically - too many people will not notice!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:43 AM on 04/22/2008

Hillary attacks Obama for 'Sky is Blue' comment! Film at eleven!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:30 PM on 04/21/2008

Hilary damn near depicted her and McCain as running mates a couple of weeks ago. We will see those commercials starring Hillary, attacking Obama that will end with "I'm John McCain and I endorse this message."

She has gone from the kitchen sink method to the say anything, do anything, rewrite anything. OMG, will the real Hillary Clinton, please stand up. I miss the Hillary I once admired.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:24 PM on 04/21/2008

Hillary the hypocrite is at it again. The people that support her actually believe her though. She says it so it must be true.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:49 PM on 04/21/2008

She has always been an apparition.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:35 PM on 04/21/2008

HELLO OUT THERE WHY WOULD ANYONE BELIEVE BARAK OBAMA?
ESPECIALLY IF YOU CLING TO YOUR GUNS, HANG ON TIGHT:

Barack Obama"s presidential campaign has worked to assure uneasy gun owners that he believes the Constitution protects their rights and that he doesn"t want to take away their guns.

But before he became a national political figure, he sat on the board of a Chicago-based foundation that doled out at least nine grants totaling nearly $2.7 million to groups that advocated the opposite positions.

The foundation funded legal scholarship advancing the theory that the Second Amendment does not protect individual gun owners" rights, as well as two groups that advocated handgun bans. And it paid to support a book called "Every Handgun Is Aimed at You: The Case for Banning Handguns."

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:22 PM on 04/21/2008

And it looks like Obamas opponents are using the very tactics he described. Obama doesn't want your guns, the president can't just take them away anyway and just because you sit on a board, eat at the same deli or were neighbors to at one time doesn't mean a damn thing.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:57 PM on 04/21/2008

Obama has stated that he believes local government should have more control. I don't maybe has something to do with tring to minimize illegal guns in metropolitian areas. Not alot of "hunting" going on in Chicago. Didn't like 20 people get shot and killed there over the weekend?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:30 PM on 04/21/2008

If you are voting on the gun issue you might as well vote for Republican, because no Democrat is going to be as hands off as them. Hillary is anti-gun as well, so I'm not quite getting your point here.

He also has made it clear that what is right for one area isn't necessarily right for another. Thus handguns are a lot more dangerous in Chicago than small town Kentucky. He has consistently believed that the 2nd amendment protected an individuals right to bare arms, this went back to when he was a constitutional law professor, way before he hit the national spotlight, but he has also consistently said that laws need to make sense and factor in public safety.

He has a very sensible position on guns, and he has been consistent. But from the sounds of it you want to run off and vote for McCain or whoever will let you have your assault weapon, and that is fine, but don't try to complain about Obama for his stance on guns when you know damn well that you will never be happy with any control of guns. Why don't you go post on townhall.com, they sound like more your type.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:30 PM on 04/21/2008

In all honesty, Let's not see any bare arms here, particularly HRC's.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:15 PM on 04/21/2008

Can't believe Obama was so stupid as to open himself up to that. Come on man, you want to win not pump McCain up.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:19 PM on 04/21/2008

As stupid as Hilalry Clinton practically endorsing McCAin should she lose the nomination?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:58 PM on 04/21/2008

It wasn't really stupid, it wasn't really useful either though. But stupid? Nah. It was stating the obvious, and it isn't like that would give him any kind of boost. Not a big deal.

If he had said McCain is better qualified to be commander-in-chief than a Democrat THAT would have been stupid. But only Hillary says crap like that, over and over and over again:

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:39 PM on 04/21/2008

Dare Obama mention the elephant in the room. He didn't "open himself up" for shit. He only stated what is obvious to everyone, everywhere.

Desparate Hillary is trying to make something out of nothing.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:34 PM on 04/21/2008

If Hillary's intent, by speaking out of both sides of her mouth AT THE SAME TIME, is to befuddle the masses, it is not working.

However, what she is doing is boiling the water in the kettle down to where there is no water left and the kettle is smoking!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:12 PM on 04/21/2008

The sad thing is that it is working. ..

Thank You Nash McCabe and your ilk. . . too ignorant to actually think about the real issues.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:17 PM on 04/21/2008

Huh? What the hell has Hillary been smoking this time. It's unacceptable for Obama to state the obvious and say that McCain would be an improvement over Bush, but it was fine for Hillary to as much as say that McCain would be better than Obama (at least on foreign policy)? So it seems that it would reasonably follow that if McCain is no better than Bush, but is better than Obama, then Hillary thinks that Obama would be worse than Bush. Right? Damn. I still see Hillary as an improvement over Bush (hell, I'd be 100 times better president than that idiot myself) and would hold my nose and vote for her over McCain, but I seriously have to question the judgement of anyone who would say what she seems to be saying (at least by adding it all up).

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:10 PM on 04/21/2008

Hillary is from the school of "As long as you don't call me out on something, I will keep saying it"

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:05 PM on 04/21/2008

She's more from the school of "If you tell a lie enough people will believe it"
