By the time Hillary Clinton's campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle finally packed up her lovely corner office with its fresh blue carpet and mini-fridge full of Diet Coke, her exit must have come as a relief--even to many of her friends on Team Hillary. Since Iowa, colleagues had been conducting an uneasy deathwatch for her. New faces had begun popping up around Ballston (as Hillary HQ is called in honor of its suburban Virginia neighborhood), most notably Maggie Williams, Hillary's chief of staff from her First Lady days. Initially, the campaign insisted that Williams was there merely to back up Solis Doyle, but, almost immediately, staffers began turning to Williams to solve problems and approve projects. When the inevitable strain of having two people atop the organizational chart became untenable, few questioned who would be the last woman standing. On February 10, the Sunday after Super Tuesday, Solis Doyle was officially out.

Leadership change brings disruption. And no one knows how to exploit disruption better than Mark Penn, the message master of Team Hillary. Long disdainful of Solis Doyle, Penn saw her departure as an opportunity to consolidate his authority, say insiders. He started hanging out in her old office, which had been transformed into a conference room, and taking over meetings and in-house e-mail chains she once handled (occasionally bumping up against similar efforts by Williams). At the same time, Penn's colleagues from Burson-Marsteller, the p.r. giant of which he is chief executive, became more visible around HQ. "I think, post-Patti, he only got stronger," says one in-house observer. Williams may have been the new chief, but Penn had his own ideas about how things should run.

Hillary Clinton campaign is flat broke, and she's waisting valuable time because she's such a spiteful, republican in desguise as a democrat, she's run a sorry ass campaign, and deep down she knows it, the only hope that she has is those older middle-class voters who want to retain the " old school" style of politics, she couldn't run a honest sincere campaign even if she was paid to do so, she even paid herself and her campaign, is still broke on its ass, so if you listen to the "hype" the sorry pitful attacks against obama, is proof postive that she has no grounds to be in this race at this point, but despite that she'll destroy obama's credibility on her way out the door, this means that she will do just about anything to be president and and if she cant have it then she does not want to see obama have it, this is why she embraced Mccain and said that either her or Mccain would be a better president leaving obama out in the cold, her contempt and her fake concern is disgusting.

So she stocks her campaign with loyal friends instead of competent advisors? Sounds familiar.
Hey, Obama's advisors have told him at times to go negative and he, being he Leader chose otherwise and turned out to be correct.
Whatever happeneded to "I'm the Boss" Clinton? Sounds like she is sadly lacking in both judgement of character and leadership qualitites. Sounds like, because it is true.

Anyone imagine all those people who've been stiffed by her campaign might be inclined toward a bit of bitterness? You know, small business owners who hire local people and so on and so forth.

Birds of a feather flock together: Hillary's a liar and what do you expect from those that surround her? I hope tomorrow she gets the shock of her life in PA. Maybe then she and that philandering husband of hers will go away for good never to be heard from again.

Exactly........her supporters are not Democrats, they're ambitious toadys of many stripes with NO unifying philosophy they want to talk about.
Mega-Hubris.

The Democratic Party is being made stronger because of the republican shill...hrc.
We are delivering the Party back to The Workers.

You might be right. However, just consider the fact that she might be sabotaging Obama chances of winning this election so she can run again in 2012, while clinging to a thread of a hope for this nomination.

If by 2012 the best that the party can do is a rerun of Hiliary, they deserve to lose again and again till they figure out how to win. She is one major lie short of dementia, and that is where it just needs to stop.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:29 PM on 04/21/2008

nice one, m8! but really, 2012 is a long time away, and if clinton's brand of politics is waning now, what do you think will happen in 2012? she's finished.
obama has said he is trying to restrain himself because she's a democrat. i dont think mccain will have it all so easy, war hero or no.
obama will win the nomination and barring death, will win the presidency ( do not say barring death lightly, there are some nutcases out there, and his secret service have to the most useless bunch of idiots i ever seen).
when obama wins, she wont even stand a chance till 2016, and by then kathleen sebelius or some other qualified well loved woman or man will be running. clinton has burnt up all her bridges and alienated the majority of the democrat base. i cant even imagine her getting re-elected to the senate, talk less of speaker or anything of the sort.

I can't disagree with you there, but that is just how delusional they are. Just as Hillary fired up her campaign the day after Bush took his second term, she will do the same to McLame should the scenario play out. Just think about it as a possibility.

I realize that hiring political strategist, polling experts and so forth and so on is the thing to do when runnung for office.

But I find it hard to believe that when you are Hillary Clinton and you are still married to Bill Clinton that anyone else could have more responsibility for your campaingn than the Clintons. When you are the Clintons you decide how to conduct yourself in a campaign, how to compete, how to relay your message. This is their niche.

So to lay blame on members of the staff ridiculous. It seems to me that maybe their political strategist could suggest the idea of losing gacefully.

For a while, I thought that Hillary was simply plagued by a bunch of bad people on her campaign staff. However, as they keep leaving (or being demoted), one cannot help but wonder if the problems don't start at the top, since nothing seems to change.

You can expect the same in a Clinton White House. She had run out of money twice now. Being sued by a company in CA for non payment. A total mess, and yet she claims superior leadership skills.
Just anouther example of her magical thinking.

Obama supporters - it's clear Hillary does not know how to bow out with dignity. Let's show we can win with dignity. To demonstrate our compassion I propose we each send her $1to be used to pay her people enough to get bus tickets home. It must be stipulated that the money cannot be used to try to resurrect her lost cause. Maybe that's stupid, but I'm starting to feel sorry for them. She will be missed.

As many people have posted several examples of how she mis-managed her campaign, the most striking to me is her complete inability to control her staff.

The mark of a good administrator IMO is a person who can get a staff to work together to achieve a common goal, despite their personal differences. Clinton time and again shows that she cannot manage anything and is horrible as an executive. Just another nail in the coffin as far as I can see.

i don't get why Hilary can't raise the same kind of money that Barack is raising.

she says she is the one who can run and win against the repubs... but she can't even get her folks to give her 25 dollars to help her pay her bills.

that just doesn't make sense.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:00 PM on 04/21/2008

$25? Please...Bill's been begging - BEGGING - via e-mail (which, as a former HRC supporter, I have chosen to continue to receive just for the pure entertainment value) for even just $5-$10. She and Bill have money to burn, why don't they put some of their own in (and not just as a "first to be paid back" loan to her campaign) if she wants it so bad? Worked for Bloomberg. But the Clintons like to have their cake and eat it to - they want the office but don't want to have to pay for any of it, which it fine if you can afford to do so, which you can't when you're being outraised two to three times. I guess they didn't think of that when they blew off the "liberal elite" segment of the party, a segment that tends to both give and fundraise heavily.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:35 PM on 04/21/2008

but really? how hard can it be to at least STAY CLOSE to barack in fundraising? is it because her supporters are real? or is it because they don't know how to operate computers? i mean.. they cant be MORE broke than most of the people who are funding the Obama campaign.. can they?

what is it that she just CAN'T DO IT.

it just doesn't make sense. does it?

This quote says it all... exactly in line with how Bushie operates
"Penn is a known and trusted quantity to a candidate for whom loyalty is a primary concern, and his work in the Clinton White House won him the respect and gratitude of a president said to be unimpressed with some of his wife's counselors."

Aren't we done with this kind of personal loyalty before country crap??? Anyone remember Katrina? Drownie? Doin' a heck uva job?
