The British media is in a twist over reports that Prince William landed an air force helicopter on his girlfriend's parents' lawn. According to the AP, the heir to the throne

landed an air force helicopter at the home of his girlfriend's parents during a training flight, Britain's Defence Ministry said Sunday...

The landing on the Middleton family farm on April 3 was planned and authorized as part of the prince's Royal Air Force pilot training, the ministry statement said.

"The aircraft landed in the field, after taking all necessary safety precautions, and was on the ground for 20 seconds," the ministry said. "No one got on or off the aircraft."

News of The World says Prince William's helicopter landing "sparked fury last night after landing his 15,000 pound-an-hour RAF helicopter in girlfriend Kate Middleton's back garden."

The BBC, on the other hand, is fawning over Prince William's manliness, calling it a "courting ritual befitting of a future king."

Name a young male who has not done something shortsighted to impress his girlfriend, and caused older, wiser heads to tut-tut in dismay. Just because he's the prince, he's still human; everybody is awfully lucky if this is the biggest thing they have to worry about these days.

Back to work!

All the UK press getting worked so up because the helicopter is expensive and could have been put to better use transforming people into splashes of red goo in Iraq, say. Call me old fashioned, but I actually prefer my helicopters landing on lawns rather than changing people into goo.

Big whoop. He is the Prince. He can pretty much do what he wants. Its not like he is the Prince of darkness George Bush who can do whatever he wants thanks to people like Pelosi

"landing a helicopter on her lawn"? Is that one of those weird British metahors for . . . spreading royal jelly on plain toast? Leaving his prints on her fine china? Standing at her door with head in hand?

Maybe he was there to polenate her rosebush.

that is REDICULOUS. at least our tax $$ dont go to some spolied rich kids flying military helicopters to their girlfriends house...

when are they going to wake up and realize that the UK people are paying for this family to live a fantasy. What purpose do they serve? Can someone please explain to me what William does for the English people?

I'm sure the homeless and lower class citizens love to see their prince flying around in helicopters on their tax dollars.

At least this can be justified as flight training. How many millions of taxpayer's dollars are spent so that George Bush can take Air force One to partisan political rallies? Put your own house in order before you criticize your neighbors.

naw, we are just flushing millions and millions into the incompetently run contracting mess in Iraq.

Why in the world should we care about the British media's opinion of anything. If there's a more out-of-control, bottom-feeding pack of jackals in the world, I wouldn't want to encounter them. They make the US press look like angels . . . well, not really, but they're an utter horror.

Make Love, not war.

I can't think of a better use of a military helicopter than to court your sweetheart.
Talk about having a big dick.

Of course every man who has anything to do with a military helicopter from the machanic to the Prime Minister thinks he has a bigger dick for doing so.

But, I'm sure there are people who think we should only use the helicopter for its intended use, which of course, is to KILL PEOPLE. Lets not waste it on love.

Given the fact that he is part of the Royal Family, he can do what he wants. Now, if the people of England have a problem with this type of authority maybe they should do away with the wasteful royal arm of the government. The royal family serves no purpose.

The people of England don't seem to have a problem with this stunt. They think it's kind of cute. Except for the military people. They are outraged because British soldiers need helicopters, and this one is being used frivolously. Anyway, that's my reading of the British press.

It was part of a training exercise, which isn't frivolous. Maybe the destination is, but maybe the idea was to land someplace from the air which the pilot knew from getting there by land. Who knows? He didn't transport her, in any case. Make love, NOT war.

They are a tourist attraction, plus they give the media something to do other than reporting on serious issues. It is elected politicians who serve no purpose. We should cut out the middlemen by firing the politicians and just put the corporations and lobbyists in charge.

No, Mount Rushmore is a Tourist attraction, they are a freak show :) But let's face it, we'd all land choppers on our girl's lawn, if we could--Or better yet, show up at you high school reunion in one! Re the corps and lobbies--I think the deed was done in 2001 and I've always wondered if it hurts Cheney and Bush when their mouths are moved by the long corporate arm shoved up their rear ends?
