JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — A court on Monday postponed the trial of a former dormitory matron accused of abusing pupils at a school set up by Oprah Winfrey for disadvantaged girls.

Magistrate Thelma Simpson agreed to a request made by Tiny Virginia Makopo's lawyer, who said he needed more time to consult with his client.

The judge said a new trial date, likely in July, would be set during a provisional hearing on Friday.

Prosecutor Etienne Venter voiced frustration with the delay, saying the state was ready for the trial.

"We can't keep on dragging and dragging the case," he said.

Makopo has pleaded not guilty to charges of indecent assault, assault and criminal injury. Police say the alleged abuse against six teenage students and a fellow dormitory matron took place over four months.

On Monday, Makopo hid her face in a maroon towel as she entered the court building. A policewoman removed the towel, but Makopo pulled her jacket hood low over her eyes.

"I can't talk to a faceless person," Simpson said as she ordered her to remove the hood.

Winfrey's $40 million school opened in January 2007 with much fanfare, with guests including Nelson Mandela, Spike Lee and Tina Turner. It is designed to groom girls from disadvantaged backgrounds for leadership roles.

Winfrey, who was a victim of child abuse herself, promised an overhaul of the school and said she had apologized to parents.

Oprah has a history of jumping into things without fully analyzing the consequences. Years ago she touted fasting as a way to lose weight. My best friend jumped on the bandwagon and nearly died. Now she has taken young girls that I believe she truly meant to help and made them victims. What we need to remember is that Oprah is only a pop culture TV star - not someone with more insight into the world's problems than the average Jane on the street. She was certainly entitled to tell the world that she believes that Barack Obama should be President of the United States, but for this voter that was a negative in his column.

Oprah has given the world a school with child molesters, Dr Oz, who was accused by his colleagues of animal cruelty to dogs and fined by the US government for animal cruelty,Dr Phil who is a political Psychologist and has no training to deal with people's personal problems and the Secret etc.......
Oprah is lucky. She has no more talent than anyone and yet is rich and famous. That is luck.

Let's get real, Oprah is very well liked for good reasons even if you don't care for her. She is never arrogant, or bichy like one ol our domocratic nominees. Give credit where credit is due. She's not perfect, I think she's right on supporting Senator Obama.

Michelle and Reverend Wright have every right to be here. Just because you don't agree with them, it's a free country, so far. Anyone can speak up and should not be punished for it. Let me guess. You wear a flag pin at times so that makes everything just great for you. Besides, Michelle Obama is the next First Lady; deal with it.
