Barack Obama appeared on The Daily Show on Monday, and Jon Stewart asked a doozy: "The Rev. Wright controversy, the flag pin controversy... Will you pull a bait-and-switch, sir, and enslave the white race? Is that your plan?" But Obama laughed it off. "That is not our plan, Jon, but I think your paranoia might make you suitable as a debate moderator."

Obama predicted "high turnout tomorrow" in Pennsylvania, and said that after starting 20 points down, "the polls are now showing us about 6 to 8" points behind. Obama argued Clinton's tough campaigning did him "a favor. ... She has put me through the paces."

Later, Stewart had Obama read some ordinary phrases to see if he could make anything sound inspiring. Watch it:

Here's part two:

Read the full media pool report below:

Pittsburgh Video Center, Pittsburgh, Pa.
6:45 p.m. Obama tapes an appearance on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" by video hookup.

Highlights at the top:

*Obama told Stewart during their interview that after starting out 20 points behind Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania, "The polls are now showing us about 6 to 8″ points behind.

*Stewart told Obama what the real concern voters have is: "The Rev. Wright controversy, the flag pin controversy. . . Will you pull a bait-and-switch, sir, and enslave the white race. Is that your plan? And if it is your plan, be honest, tell us now!" Obama's response (laughing, not mad): "That is not our plan, Jon, but I think your paranoia might make you suitable as a debate moderator."

For the rest, your pooler will divide this report into two sections - my mostly unsuccessful attempt to get a quote from Sen.Obama re. the Clinton campaign's ad invoking Osama Bin Laden, and then the Jon Stewart appearance.

Part I
On the way into the studio, I asked Obama why he felt it important to respond to the late-breaking Clinton ad with an ad of his own and what he thought of her ad. "Are you supposed to be doing this with the pool?" he asked, and laughed. Then he sat down and had the earpiece put in. I asked him if he'd give us a comment after the taping and he said, "Maybe, it depends on how well behaved you are." But then after the taping, I was whisked off ahead of him and didn't get to bug him again.

In between, I asked strategist David Axelrod again about the Clinton ad. His response: "The irony of it is, she supported the president on the war and that's one of the main reasons why Osama bin Laden is still free. And then you know to include him in this ad and emulate the sort of fear-mongering that we've seen over the last eight years is really ironic. She didn't have the judgment to see that we were diverting our attention from bin Laden and now she's using Bin Laden in an ad to say that she is the one who is ready to be president?"

Part II
(The way the studio was set up, you couldn't hear Jon Stewart's questions from the room Obama was in unless you had an earpiece, which I was not provided and you couldn't hear Obama's answers or see his face from the control room. So this is cobbled together from tapes we rolled in each room.)

Prior to the interview with Stewart, Obama sat in front of the camera (which was not rolling at the time) with an earpiece in listening to the show being taped. He swung his right leg back and forth and at times chuckled, grinned and laughed.

Stewart and the show's senior black correspondent and comedian Larry Wilmore talked about the speculation about whether Obama had been giving Clinton "the finger" after the debate last week. Cut to video. "Are you shi-ing me?" Stewart said. "THIS is a flip-off." And he demonstrated. "What if he was just scratching his face?" Stewart asked.

Wilmore joked, "Black people's face don't itch.. . black people have a whole set of physical gestures only we can understand." Wilmore called it "blanguage" which he defined as a "secret black language." Obama was laughing uncontrollably (still off camera).and briefly did his own subtle finger face itch. Obama's smiled waned a bit when Wilmore went on to this joke: "Look at Rev. Wright. All he said was G-D America and everybody went crazy. He could have said the same thing in blanguage and nobody would have been the wiser."

Here's what Obama told Stewart about the Pennsylvania primary once their interview started:
*"It is a mad dash but the people of Pennsylvania have been terrific."

*"We think there's going to be high turnout tomorrow." He said after starting 20 points down "the polls are not showing us about 6 to 8″ points behind.

*Obama said Clinton's tough campaigning did him "a favor" . . . . "She has put me through the paces," he said. If he wins the nomination, he said, everything's "going to be old news" by the general election.

I live in NJ & in the primary I voted Hillary. My problem with Obama was I felt he conveyed a holiier than thou attitude. Even though, he said he had no ties with lobbiests, & corporations I felt it misleading. C'mon what politician doesn't have ties with corporations & lobbiests. At least with her I knew what I was getting plus the positions for each candidate on issues are very similiar. Now, I see more and know more of Obama & I would like to see him win the nomination, though I would like to see HRC somehow invloved as well I believe she has alot of experience & knowledge to contribute. I see and feel in my heart that he is the right persron for the job. My biggest fear now seems like it will come true....that is the fact that some of you Obama/HRC supporters claim you will abstain from voting or vote Mccain if your candidate does not win the nom.....this scares me to no end! Dont be selfish think of the responsibilty we have to each other and democracy!!!!!!!......We can not let this divide us! We have to stick together no matter what....Be it HRC or Obama....we need to come together & vote democratic if we want ANYTHING to be different in the next 4 years......we are on the cusp.....dont ruin it for everyone else b/c of your selfishness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What bothers me most about Barack Hussein Obama is that he seems to be operating on several different levels depending on whom he is speaking to at any given moment. When he is with his "pastor" Wright he is a radical Afro-Centric "Christian". When he is in San Francisco he is an elitist, self-righteous "liberal" who is anti-Christian. He seems to adopt whatever persona and tactic necessary in any given situation order to gain the trust and support of who ever he is speaking to at the moment. There is a teaching within Islam called Takfir wal-Hijra where Muslims can adopt western, non-Islamic appearances such as shaving their beard, drinking alcohol and even eating pork in order to blend into western culture and make themselves hard to detect, even to other Muslims. This role of deception, also called Taqiyya, which is in essence lying, is fundamental in keeping one"s convictions secret in order to achieve the concealment of their goals. What makes Takfir wal-Hijra so dangerous to non-Muslims is its element of subterfuge. Barack Hussein Obama proudly admits that he is the son of a radical Muslim who hated America. From 1967 to 1971 he was taught Islamic culture and the Qur"an in a Muslim school in Indonesia. He learned about Takfir wal-Hijra and the deceptive tactic of Taqiyya at a very young and impressionable age. Just something to think about¦.

I HAVE TO RESPOND TO: WildBillHickok

This is pure garbage about Islam. Just because you're not familiar with a religion, like Islam, doesn't give you the right to assume that it's an evil, violent religion.
I'm an African American woman who was born into a muslim family. My upbringing was similar to Obama's in which not only was I exposed to other cultures and societies, I was NOT raised in a family who held radical, extremist viewpoints the TERRORIST MUSLIMS in the Middle East.
I am now 31 yrs old, and never practiced Islam because my mother nor father were consistent with the ideologies of the religion. I discovered my faith through Jesus Christ and was baptized five years ago. I am a Christian, but have an Islamic first name and a hispanic surname because I married a Hispanic, but why should this make me more Muslim?
This is the kind of ignorance that we need to eradicate from this country's framework.
It's not surprising that the first African American candidate is being portrayed as a terrorist, a racist, and an elitist. NO, he is none of them. The problem is, is that Obama is extremely educated, skilled and brilliant. Much of a threat because we've never seen such public adoration for a black man in this country in any other field besides sports or entertainment. I have to say, I am so hurt by this disgust. Much of these so called controversies revolve around Obama's identity. Just admit it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble about my ignorance of Islam Senora Zamudio, but I was born in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia (az-Zahran in Arabic) which is in the province of Ash-Sharqiyah. My father and mother worked for Aramco and I lived there until I was 14 when I left to attend school in England and California where I received a bachelor"s degree in Religious Studies from Cal-Berkeley. I have also read several English translations of the Qur"an from cover to cover. Have you? Your assumption that I couldn"t possibly know anything about Islamic culture, the Qur"an and the teaching of Muhammad (PBUHH) because I am white betrays a serious, disturbing racial bigotry and prejudice on your part, which I believe is rooted in your own ignorance of Islam. Having an "Islamic first name" doesn"t make you an authority on anything and suggesting that it does is specious, naïve and absurd. I suggest you actually read the Qur"an and learn about Takfir wal-Hijra and Taqiyya before you try and project your own ignorance and racial bigotry on others.

*chuckle* Ok, I've wiped my eyes and stopped laughing. I love reading what you guys scrawl. So, sometimes he's Christian, sometimes he's anti-Christian, and all of the times he's a Muslim terrorist. I'm sorry to laugh when it"s so clearly a bold statement of hatred and paranoia., but it"s just so ludicrous. Take your meds Bill, and shut off the puter!

Elbzee, I would appreciate it if you would point out exactly where in my post I called Barack Hussein Obama a Muslim terrorist. As an enlightened, holier-than-thou liberal it must be pure joy to be able to vilify anyone who calls into question BHO"s methods and intentions. Because, after all, if someone doesn"t see him as the messiah that you obviously do, he must a hateful, racist, paranoid bigot. Right? What a political windfall it must be to be able to call anyone who doesn"t think like you a racist bigot for not automatically voting for a candidate because of the color of his skin. People are influenced by their early childhood education and training. You are a good example of your mother"s failure to properly toilet train you, which left you feeling dirty and inadequate. And you try and compensate for this failure by masturbating your ego with childish schoolyard insults. I suggest you are projecting your own subconscious insecurities by accusing others of your own hateful paranoia.

What I don't get is why the MSM is throwing away this prime opportunity?! For the past several presidential elections(all of my voting aged life) the reporting has been about voter apathy and young people not being involved in the process...well, now they are! I am so very excited to be living through this now. My oldest daughter voted in the primaries, and I could not have been more proud! She voted for Obama and I voted for Hillary, but we voted together and it was wonderful!

It really frightens me to think that the Democratic Party could actually let this one get away. I have heard that the talk radio folks are speculating that the "in-fightin" in the Democratic Party over Hillary vs. Obama could be "the end of the party" (in their dreams!). But it is scarey to think that people might turn away from the party just because their first choice candidate does not get the nomination.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:02 PM on 04/22/2008

Politics is politics--the young people better see how it works. We can't be all wussy-poo just because impressionable young people have taken an interest. If their pick gets in, I suppose many will continue to follow the effects this has on the future of our country--but many will fall away again. We can't base everything on them.

My first vote was for RFK in the California primary. Then, I had to get over what happened. These first time voters who are demanding that their candidate must win or else need a lesson in how to keep going after a disappoint. Hopefully, Hillary will provide them with that lesson. She keeps going and is a good example of that.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:29 AM on 04/23/2008

So in other words, you want young people to be involved.... as long as it's limited to voting for your candidate?

Q-Why,

If the earth is God's foot stool, does that mean that his feet are always freezing from the snow on the North Pole?

Are American's God's Chosen now? Or is it still the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob only?

The Earth being the center of the universe, was the Comet Holmes just passing through a cloud of humors and vapors escaping from Hell the cause for it's sudden brightening?

I believe President Bush has the ear of God and that the world will end in 1858. There was a lot more biblical evidence and timing back then than there is on your website. Junk food is good for you, American Idol is an important educational tool, the Rapture is coming and Jesus is Mexican.

Stewart is right to ask the 'tough' questions he did.

I heard that Obama was planning on taking away all our bibles and making us go to Islam churches.

I know he isn't planning on enslaving white Americans yet. He's first going to try it on those of the Canadian faith. If it works, he'll send all white Americans back to Europe where they came from.

And that's just the start. I even read somewhere that he doesn't even know the plegeallejents.
